SV OU Dragonite Balance - 1600s (Post Ursaluna BM ban)

{ Pokepaste:- https://pokepast.es/d93d7e7030086562 }

This is a balance team me and my friend made, we had alot of fun with it and so I decided to make an RMT post.

Lets get started with the team.

First, the core: I started off with a basic Dragonite, Gholdengo and Walking Wake core because they are pretty reliable offensively.

The lead here is Glimmora, which is a hard hitting lead that sets up hazards very quickly.

Offensive pokemon done, now lets get started with defense:-

I had to choose Zapdos as it can wall many offensive threats and can cripple with paralyze. It can also live an Ice Spinner from Great Tusk, which is a threat to any team if not checked and can OHKO it back with a Hurricane. Likes of Corviknight, Pelipper, Torkoal, Dondozo get 2HKO'ed by Zapdos' strong STAB Discharge.

Last but not least, Great Tusk is paired with Zapdos in the defensive core. Great Tusk is an amazing mon being #1 in the usage ranking. Its amazing both offensively and defensively. The item on Great Tusk is Assault Vest to give it more special bulk. As a result, with a Careful Nature and 252 Sp.D EVs, It can never be OHKO'd.

Notable Calculations of Great Tusk:-

252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Draco Meteor vs. 132 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Great Tusk: 186-220 (46 - 54.4%) -- 55.9% chance to 2HKO

252 SpA Quark Drive Iron Moth Energy Ball vs. 132 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Great Tusk: 190-224 (47 - 55.4%) -- 73.4% chance to 2HKO

252 SpA Iron Valiant Moonblast vs. 132 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Great Tusk: 206-246 (50.9 - 60.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Now, onto the sets:

Glimmora @ Focus Sash
Ability: Toxic Debris
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Mortal Spin
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave

This is a standard Glimmora set, it sets up hazards, does good chip and dies. Checking leads like Alolan Ninetales and offensive staples like Gholdengo, Kingambit, Iron Valiant, etc. Also removing hazards from its own side with Mortal Spin and punishing with poison.

Walking Wake @ Choice Specs
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Surf
- Flamethrower
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse

Originally in place of Walking Wake there was Ursaluna-BM but it got banned unfortunately. I needed an offensive check for gliscor and Wake seemed like an excellent option since its hard to counter it. Its Draco Meteor and Surf are hard to switch in to.

Gholdengo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Make It Rain
- Trick
- Focus Blast

Scarf Gholdengo was my choice over the other Nasty Plot/Specs sets because speed control was important here. Trick to cripple defensive mons and choice lock setup mons, Shadow Ball & Make It Rain hits anything hard that doesnt resist it and Focus Blast to punish a Kingambit switch in.

Dragonite @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
- Ice Spinner

Dragonite is the main setup sweeper here, with a +2 Atk boost with Tera Normal, it is basically unstoppable after you get rid of whatever walls it, serving as an excellent sweeper. Ice Spinner to OHKO opposing Dragonite and Gliscor with a +1 Atk boost. Earthquake to check Heatran, Clodsire, Skeledirge, etc.

Zapdos @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Static
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 248 HP / 240 Def / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Discharge
- Roost
- Volt Switch

Zapdos is the pivot of this team, being able to safely bring in the sweepers and walling threats like Rillaboom which otherwise might sweep the team. Discharge hits hard with STAB and has a good chance of crippling with paralyze. Roost for recovery. Hurricane hits Great Tusk (OHKO if not defensive). Volt Switch for chipping teams that dont have a Ground type and pivoting.

Great Tusk @ Assault Vest
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 132 HP / 120 Atk / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Close Combat

Great Tusk is Specially Defensive wall and the Rapid Spinner of this team. Great Tusk is an extremely versatile mon with a great movepool. Knock off hits Gholdengo which is immune to the other 3 moves if its Air Balloon and punishes mons that switch into Great Tusk removing their leftovers. Rapid Spin because hazard control requirement. Earthquake and Close Combat are STAB hard hitting moves that check alot of OU mons.

Hey, seems like an interesting team, and you have been getting some success, but I think that Glimmora is too offensive for this team, and I think one change could help a lot

:glimmora: ----> :gliscor:

Gliscor (F) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 244 HP / 144 Def / 104 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Protect

Your own gliscor! With a mix wall set that will get rocks, toxic cheap support and some overall defensive backbone, glimmora dies too early, gliscor meanwhile gives you another flying immunity and allows you to scout the intentions of other people, I recommend tera water to get rid of the ice weakness, with my version of the team, you have 4 weak to ice mons, so tera will help in that regard

On a small change, make great tusk tera steel, and consider putting Ice Spinner Close Combat, to lure and heavily damage gliscor, while avoiding the toxic in the process

On zapdos, go with U-turn over Volt Switch, there are a lot of ground types right now so being able to pivot out of them is vital, especially since none of them wanna stay when walking wake is in front of them

And that's it, I hope you like this version of the team and good luck
