XY OU Dressed for succes - Mega gardevoir anti meta team.

Dressed for succes!
This team was made during OLT cycle 5, and at the time I made it, the ladder was filled with volturn and gay geopass teams, so I made a team with the goal of hopefully having a beneficial matchup against said teams. I also wanted to use mega gardevoir. I’m hoping to give the team another go for cycle 8, and hopefully even qualify. I only peaked 1852 in cycle 5, so I got a long way to go. Anyways, let’s get a team preview… Enjoy!

I started with mega gardevoir, as I wanted to use it, pretty simple. It’s a pretty good wallbreaker, and can break pretty much everything, that is not pink and holds an egg. ^^

I added a choice scarfed keldeo, as it can pick surprise kills on scarfed lando, greninja, mega manectric, scarfed magnezone and raikoy. It also serves as a reliable revenge killer and a decent hard hitter, though the specs power was would be appreciated at times.

As a mentioned in the OP I wanted to counter the stupidly gay playstyle of geopass, and bisharp was the most solid way of doing so, getting a plus 2 from memento. I went with a gimmicky lum berry set, as it would not get crippled by smeagels spore, and therefore be able to ohko it through reflect. It can also help with the pink blob that gives garde trouble, putting it in 2hko range with pursuit.

I added ferrothorn and latios simutainosly as I wanted to create the powerful dragon/fairy/steel core, as well as having a way of both setting and removing hazard, which is always great for every team.

I went with a sub dd gyarados to toss a bit with bulky offence and balance, this thing sets up on heatran, psyshock less slowbro and mew like a damn god.

I changed ferrothorn to heatran to patch up my talon weakness, however this change made me even weaker to mega pinsir, making flying spam an almost certain lose. I decided to keep it however, as I would rather be weak to pinsir than talon, and latios can decently revenge pinsir.

In depth

282-m.png

Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace -> Pixilate
Evs: 24 Def | 232 Spa | 252 Spe
Timid Nature
Hypervoice | Psyshock | Focus Blast | Substitute

Gardevoir is really good, and much like one of my favourite megas, zard Y, as many teams just lacks a solid switchin, the only very common ones being Scizor, Heatran and Ferrothorn, The later two handled to an extent with focus blast, and scizor is by no means hard for my team to deal with. Hypervoice and Psyshock should be self-explaining, but ill explain it anyways just in case. Hyper Voice gets STAB and pixilate boost, giving it a 117 effective base power before stab (175 after). Psyshock is secondary stab, and chosen over psychic to deal damage on the physical side for special walls, mainly Chansey. In the last moveslot substitute is chosen over wisp or taunt in order to ease predictions and avoid annoying status. A timid nature is to outspeed sand rush excadrill before going mega, as well as speed tying with other base 100 after going mega. The 24 defence evs are to avoid the 2hko from latios psyshock 100% of the time.

647-Keldeo-Resolute.png

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
Evs: 4 Def | 252 Spa | 252 Spe
Modest Nature
Scald | Hydro Pump | Secret Sword | Hidden Power Electric

Keldeo is just an amasing pokemon in general, and one of my favourite ones too. I often use keldeo as a lead to scout for the ever-so-common scarfed landorus, who tend to stay in and u-turn expecting the more common specs keldeo. Keldeo is (wow im sharp) the fastest pokemon on the team, and hits a fantastic speed tier, out speeding most setup sweepers at plus one, allowing it to be a reliable revenge killer. A modest nature is chosen to give it as much power as possible, which it really needed when you’re not using specs or life orb, this is needed in order to pick up a lot of KOs and 2hkos, on pokemon such as garchomp (scald) and mega gardevoir ( hydro pump). The moveset is pretty standard, hydro miss is the highest base power move, and scald is for reliability and nice burn chance. Secret sword is secondary stab, with the nifty effect of hitting the pink blob on the physical side. Hidden power electric is chosen over ice and flying because of standard gyarados being such a huge threat if it gets a dd off. As mentioned in the teambuilding process keldeo is an amazing voltturn check, at least to the more troublesome fast volturn, as it can outspeed both manectric and scarfed landorus, as well as having a decent matchup against scizor.

625-Bisharp.png

Bisharp @ Lum Berry (<Life Orb)
Ability: Defiant
Evs: 4 Def | 252 Atk | 252 Spe
Adamant Nature (<Jolly Nature)
Sucker Punch | Pursuit | Knock Off | Iron Head

Next off is this super cool samurai that I have loved ever since the first time I saw him! As mentioned in the progress I mainly chose bisharp because of its excellent ability to toss around geopass, while still being a good pokemon in general. Bisharp can act as a nice priority abuser, as well as a good check the the now very common psychic types, such as mew, slowbro, jirachi, latis and celebii. I chose to go with pursuit over sword dance, as it helps me trap said psychic types, but more importantly chansey which is a giant cock block to the team, when paired with the other common stall mons. Life orb and a jolly nature seem superior, But I keep facing gay pass.

130-Gyarados.png

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Evs: 4 Def | 252 Atk | 252 Spe
Evs: 88 Hp | 192 Atk | 4 Def | 224 Spe
Adamant Nature
Dragon Dance | Substitute | Bounce | Waterfall

Now for some gyarados action. I chose this guy because he is an amazing setup sweeper, that can set up on some of the most common mons on balance, heatran, slowbro and clefable and some more uncommon jet just as scary; crocune, jirachi and sub cm keldeo while also getting setup opportunities on mew, bisharp etc. Bounce and waterfall is both stab, and have nearly unresisted coverage. Bounce is also great to catch some of gyarados main checks off guard, such as venusaur and keldeo, as it can hit them for SE damage. The ev spread is pretty to go with max attack and speed, I haven’t really had any problems with it, and I have not felt like finding a more optimal one. Gyarados can easily get a +1 +1 with a sub if it comes in on a heatran, mew etc. and then proceed to run over the opposing team as a damn god, until they bring in ttar on my bounce n_n¨ A more optimal Ev spread for outspeeding timid noivern at plus one, it also adds more bulk in order to take a burned ferro power whip. While this won't be too helpful on this team, the general added bulk will increase the chanse for weaker attacks to not break a sub.

485-Heatran.png

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Evs: 252 Hp | 252 Spd | 4 Spe
Calm Nature
Lava Plume | Protect | Stealth Rocks | Toxic

Well, this guy isn’t anti meta or anything (more the opposite) but whatever. I chose a standard specially deffensive heatran as it have great synergy with the rest of the team, resisting all kind of stab from the three firebirds, mega zard X, mega zard Y and talonflame, making it one of the best checks in the game. Heatran is pretty much the glue that holds my team together as it checks a vast majority of the metagame, including latios, ferrothorn, fire birds, mega gardevoiror, clefable, slowbro, gengar, etc. Heatran can also act as a decent pivot against choice locked mon such as keldeo and landorus thanks to protect. Protect is also allowing it to reliably get up rocks and wearing down the opponent with toxic. Heatran also packs a decently powerful lava plume, which is great when it comes to wearing down frail pokes. Heatran beats pretty much every common defogger (lati@s, zapdos, skarm, mandybuzz and scizor), making it very easy to keep hazard to pressure the opponent. Heatran also forms a nice dragon/fairy/steel core alongside garde and latios.

381-Latios.png

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Evs: 4 Def | 252 Spa | 252 Spe
Timid Nature
Draco Meteor | Psychock | Hidden Power Fire | Defog

Latios... Ugh you know it, the single most viable pokemon in the metagame because to its great ability to get rid of those annoying hazard thanks to defog, making it pretty much a must for most offensive and balanced teams. Dual stab provides great natural coverage, draco meteor is pretty much a nuke bottom, if the opponent doesnt have a pink blob, and psyshock is to hit weakened without having to deal with the Spa drop. Hidden power fire is chosen in the last slot as it gives really nice coverage being able to hit steel types that resist both stab moves, most importantly Scizor, ferrothorn and skarmory. The evs are to outspeed base 109 pokemon, which will basically never be usefull, but neither will 8 extra evs in spdeff. Latios also serves as a really nice keldeo and zard Y check, which would otherwise freely be able to spam their powerful STAB. Believe it or not, this thing is also my best answer to mega pinsir, as it can take a +2 quick attack most of the time.

That was
The team

Thank you for reading ^^ This will be my last XY RMT, and most likely my last XY team, as I will be focusing on ORAS, but I hope I can give it another go for cycle 8 (or maybe even 7) in OLT and hopefully qualify. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed. Goodbye XY meta :')

Flying spam: it can simply overpower me, unless I play like a god

Ferrothorn: it can just spam leech seed wearing down heatran and keld

SkarmChan very hard to break, best bet is stealth rock chip damage to get them down to the point where they does not check garde/lati/gyarados, keld is great here.
Random EQs, I often rely on heatran as glue, and latios, zard Y sylveon (hp ground) etc. Can sometimes surprise with a 4x se EQ
Synxx and NotMo for making laddering fun
aim for getting me into competitive battling
Every BP player out there who got rekt by lum sharp.

this is amazing as far as i look at it sub gyra sets up on many things like slowbro w/o g knot and stuff like conk and keldeo w/o hp electric but other than that the only thing i see wrong with your team is that you have taunter or roarer. Taunt is to prevent alot of set up happening. Manaphy can put in alot of work if it is in a matchup against heatran giving it a free plus 3 spatk boost wit ease. its a speed tie with gard and draco wont knock out manaphy from full. makes you sack 1 mon to kill this thing. so run roar over protect hope helped bud :]

*Success

Anyway, have you tried this spread for gyra:

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 88 HP / 192 Atk / 4 Def / 224 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce

It lets you out speed things up to timid noivern after 1 DD. The hp and Def EVs allow you to take a burnt ferro's powerwhip behind a sub.
Alternatively, you could opt for a more power EV spread, running 176 speed EVs instead, to out speed raikou and starmie after 1 DD, whilst keeping more attacking power.

This may seem gimmicky, and probably is lol, but you could try a rhyperior instead of heatran; they both get up stealth rocks and rhyp can roar as well. They both handle bird spam amazingly, but you become much weaker to fairies though. Not sure how to fix that.
Anyway, I hope I helped.
:)

Thanks for The r8 m8 (lol) I'll definitely try the gyara spread and I'll test rhyp, as well ^^ really appreciate it.

hey WideTomato , solid team, but I can definitely see the ever crippling bird weakness as well as a sand weakness, lastly, there is a way more optimal bisharp set if you are running Lum burry.

Bisharp @ Lum Berry
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head

This bisharp set is actually really deadly. Sub sd sets up easily on things such mew, and uses subsitute to force attacks, allowing sucker punch to really put in work. A really nice set that abuses the switches bisharp forces to make it one deadly threat behind a sub, and definitely a more optimal spread than your previous
one.

View attachment 28979
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: NaN Atk
- Volt Switch
- Pain Split
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hydro Pump

Rotom-Wash > Gyarados seems better for you as well. As much as rotom-wash is standard and boring, it really does benefit your team. Sand, azumarill and birds are dangerous as hell for your team. Rotom is a really good check to those three threats, and provides a really good glue for you're team.

All in all, really solid team, but these two changes should really help it!
Thanks for the rate, but that busharp should never be used in gen 6 as knock off is too good to miss out on. your bisharp looses two main niches, in checking gropass and pressureing chansey.

I often rely on gyara as my win condition, so swapping it out seems question able, as it is my only sweeper
