Hi! This is C AllStar here with my second RMT here in Smogon. Since the start of XY, I've tried different tiers and got ehh... not that good results, until I played Ubers with a team I am using till now. I have remained undefeated until I battled another great player coupled with negligible amount of hax. I peaked at 2259 ACRE and #1 the ladder.
Teambuilding Process
With only a whooping 3 legendaries in Ubers now, it is obvious to start the team with one of them. I remember using Mandibuzz last gen with decent results so I tried a defensive version of Yveltal.
I know Xerneas is a big threat in Ubers (which I find out being not true afterwards) and Yveltal is a big setup bait for it. Therefore I added in Aegislash to hard counter it as well as providing a nice stalling core together with Yveltal.
I am really unsure of what to put in next. However, I see that offensive Yveltals are being prevalent and Chansey is a great counter to special attackers in general. I added in Chansey to be a general special wall.
I realize that physical attacking fire types are really strong right now. Blazikens and Talonflames are powerful threats and can wreck my team easily. Gyarados is my next addition in order to take on those powerful fire types.
I find out that half of my team is weak to rocks at the moment. I searched for viable defoggers and find only Scizor seems to be viable in Ubers. I haven't used my mega slot yet so this is a megascizor.
The last member of the team is also the member I'm most unsure of. The only reason I haven't replaced it is its fairy typing helping to beat Yveltal and it can occasionally sweep teams(noobish teams I mean).
The Team
Yveltal @ Leftovers
Ability: Dark Aura
EVs: 160 Spd / 248 HP / 102 SDef
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Toxic
Stallbreaker Yveltal is without a doubt the star of my team. While it does not make use of its awesome dual base 131 offenses, it is THE nightmare for every Uber teams to face now. Taunt shuts down the pink blobs, ferrothorn and any setup sweepers daring to face Yveltal. Toxic and Foul Play are its main ways to deal damage. Dark Aura boosted Foul Play is extremely power especially with the steel nerf. Metagross and Aegislash in blade form is easily OHKOed while any variant of Scizor (except probably physically defensive lol) is easily 2HKOed. Toxic wears down anything that is not steel/poison type or Gliscor. It is extremely dangerous when coupled with taunt since now the pink blobs can't recover their health or use Aromatherapy. Roost is obvious for any defensive Yveltal to recover off any damage. The speed evs are used to creep max speed Smeargle to stop any attempts to spore and set up hazards. The rest are dumped into special bulk to take hits better. These are some calcs showing how Yveltal can easily take hits and retaliate back against common threats.
252 SpA Mega Mewtwo Y Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 102+ SpD Yveltal: 224-264 (49.2 - 58%)
0- Atk Dark Aura Yveltal Foul Play vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Mega Mewtwo Y: 468-552 (112.7 - 133%)
Yveltal can easily tank a hit an OHKO back with Foul Play.
252 SpA Life Orb Mewtwo Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 102+ SpD Yveltal: 244-289 (53.6 - 63.5%)
0- Atk Dark Aura Yveltal Foul Play vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Mewtwo: 284-336 (68.4 - 80.9%)
Regular Mewtwo is a bit more threatening, but it is easily koed by Foul Play after several rounds of LO damage. I see someone running bulkier Mewtwos on the ladder though.
+2 252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Yveltal: 84-99 (18.4 - 21.7%)
+2 252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Sacred Sword vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Yveltal: 250-295 (54.9 - 64.8%)

+2 0- Atk Dark Aura Yveltal Foul Play vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Aegislash-Shield: 356-420 (109.8 - 129.6%)
Offensive Aegislash cannot do shit to Yveltal without Gyro Ball and is easily OHKOed even in shield form at +2 before even attacking.
+2 252+ Atk Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Yveltal: 168-198 (36.9 - 43.5%)
0- Atk Dark Aura Yveltal Foul Play vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Mega Scizor: 187-222 (54.5 - 64.7%)
252+ Atk Choice Band Scizor U-turn vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Yveltal: 196-232 (43 - 50.9%)
0- Atk Dark Aura Yveltal Foul Play vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Scizor: 226-267 (65.8 - 77.8%)
Scizors are outright beaten by Yveltal no matter what variant it is.
Aegislash @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Atk
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Gyro Ball
- Shadow Sneak
- Toxic
- King's Shield
SpDef Aegislash pretty much hard counters any Xerneas right now. Even +2 252+ Xerneas can't 2HKO with hp fire when counting King's shield. It provides more much more utility than that though as a check to Mewtwo, Kangy etc. Gyro Ball is the main offensive move to OHKO Xerneas after setup as well as dealing heavy damage to Mewtwos. Shadow Sneak is used to KO weakened Mewtwo as well as providing useful priority against weakened Talonflame, Greninja and stuff. Toxic is my main way to do damage thanks to lack of offensive investment. King's Shield is really incredible in Ubers as opposed to what people say in its discussion thread for several purposes. Firstly, it allows Aegislash to change back to Shield Form to take a hit. This is useful when I face bulkier Xerneas that I cannot 2HKO with Gyro Ball + Shadow Sneak. King's Shield allows me to tank a hp fire at shield form and Ko next turn with another Gyro Ball. Secondly, King's shield helps me against several physical attackers. I can actually occasionally beat Talonflames and Blazikens which often SD on turn one predicting King's Shield, while halving the attack of them if they dare to attack. Any Kangaskhan lacking EQ loses straight to King's Shield Aegislash when coupled with toxic. Thirdly, since Aegislash's only form of recovery is lefties, it NEEDS every turn of recovery possible to take on the huge amount of threats it checks. I sometimes even sacrifice momentum in order for Aegislash to get as much recovery as possible. The Evs simply maximizes special bulk to take hits like Mewtwo's Fire Blast better.
Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seismic Toss
- Aromatherapy
- Soft-Boiled
- Toxic
This is quite a standard set for Chansey, but have been proved a valuable team player for this team. The most important move of this set is certainly Aromatherapy, allowing me to play recklessly against status inducers like Klefki, opposing blobs etc and wear down my foes team as soon as possible. The evs spread simply maximizes physical bulk since its special bulk is godly already especially without Kyogre's Water Spout. With this spread, it takes only 6X% from MegaKhan's Return and have once saved my life.
Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Substitute
- Earthquake
This looks like a standard SubDD Gyarados, but in fact it plays really differently. The most valuable part of this set is actually Intimidate, which helps immensely to check physical attackers. Rather than to sweep, Dragon Dance's main use is to make Gyarados LOOK threatening against Aegislash-Shield and other stuffs. I wanted to try RestTalk Gyarados when this DDdos never sweeps but stops when I discover that it cannot even OHKO 0/0 Talonflame. Substitute is used when predicting opposing fire types to switch out, but is usually not used when there is T-tar on opposing team. The combination of Waterfall and EQ beats every fire type as well as Aegislash. The evs maximizes attack to hit as hard as possible while the rest is dumped into bulk. Gyarados also acts as a pivot switch to Kangy with EQ in order to help Aegislash to stall it out of toxic damage. I sometime finds it not bulky enough though to take on repeated onslaughts of the powerful fire types and I'm considering possibly Slowbro or Alomomola over it.
Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Defog
- U-turn
- Roost
MegaScizor is the pivot of the team. Defog is the main reason I'm using it since I am not using hazards and many important defensive backbones of my team hates hazards. Roost is essential to keep Scizor healthy and clean hazards all over the match. U-turn is a great move in general and is what make Scizor a great pivot. Bullet Punch is always useful as a priority and helps being an alternative check to Xerneas in case Aegislash is down. I didn't bother to calculate much on the EVs and just used the spread of standard CB Scizor.
Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 252 Spd / 208 SAtk / 48 HP
Timid Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SAtk / 30 Spd
- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Substitute
Xerneas is really, really overrated. I don't even think I will choose it if it isn't a cool check to Yveltal and can sometimes sweep lategame. To be honest, Xerneas didn't even showed up on over half of the matches I played. This set is a standard Geomancy set that aims at reducing the amount of checks and counters. Geomancy with Power Herb is self-explanatory. Moonblast is its main STAB and usually OHKOes Yveltal which is sometimes annoying for the team. Hidden Power Fire is the move I actually used most when Scizor, Aegislash and Ferrothorn are so prevalent. In fact, most of the time Xerneas helps the team only as a Ferrothorn lure. Substitute is always a great move as it prevents revenge kills from Scizors as well as preventing the pink blobs to do anything to Xerneas. The evs aimed at making 101 hp subs four times in order to setup on the pink blobs. Speed is maximized to speed tie with max speed Yveltal and OHKO with moonblast. The rest are put into special attack in order for it to not be deadweight early game. Xerneas is the most replacable member of my team and I am currently thinking of something to take on its role better.
Playstyle
This is not a standard team you see on the Ubers ladder. The main point of the team is to slowly stall out your opponent with toxic damage while stopping the opponents' attempts to heal status/recover with Yveltal. It is important to play conservatively with this team and identify the main threats. Aegislash and Gyarados should be the ones being played most cautiously since they have no recovery and checks immense amount of threats. You should not let Aegislash die before Mewtwo, Xerneas and Kangaskhan is dead. Gyarados shouldn't attempt to sweep before Talonflame and Blaziken is dead. You can even keep a Gyarados even at low health since Intimidate is really useful against physical attackers. Learning to conserve your useful pokemon while sacing ones already done their job is the key to success with this team.
Threatlist
Fire SPAM: Physical Fire types are really dangerous especially when Gyarados gets no recovery. Usually Gyarados will be below 50% after killing one of them. The rest of my team cannot take hits well from these threats. Usually I will kill Blaziken with Gyarados since Yveltal can sort of manage the rest of them, though this will certainly hurt.
MegaKangaskhan: MegaKangaskhan is only a threat if it has Earthquake since it ruins my usual counter, Aegislash. Usually, I will tank a hit for 6X% with Aegislash and toxic it. It will be worn down in between Gyarados and Aegislash. Predicting wrong means death though.
P.S. My only lose is due to full paralysis on Aegislash's King's Shield when facing Kangy's EQ.
Sand/EdgeQuake: Sand teams are annoying with the residual damage. But what more threatens me is its abusers' EdgeQuake coverage. T-tar is the most threatening of all thanks to STAB on Stone Edge, which hits my team really hard. Excadrill is more managable since it fails to 2HKO Yveltal with rock slide. However, in sand it actually has a chance to outspeed and 2HKO Yveltal with Rock Slide when coupled with sand damage. Good thing that it is nearly OHKOed by Foul Play though. Garchomp is less of a threat since it is uncommon and rarely packs Stone Edge. However, Sand Veil + EdgeQuake hits my team quite hard.
Yveltal: Only taunt Yveltal that is faster than my own Yveltal is threatening to me. My Yveltal cannot do shit to faster Yveltals while Chansey fails to wall it. My only way to kill it being Xerneas, meaning I must play it carefully.
Conclusion:
So here is my first team in Uber Beta. It is a pretty fun team to use so far. Feel free to rate, steel, luvdisc :) Hope that you will enjoy my team.
EDIT: Utter failure on screenshotting my ladder peak
