Drizzle RMT, relatively new player!

Rate My Team! Standard Drizzle Team

Hey guys, I’ve been playing a lot of pokemon online lately, and I must say, generation 5 is a doozy. Overpowered pokemon roam the servers as if there was a massive infection. Strategies appear that seem gimmicky, yet powerful. Lost your perish song user? Get ready for shell smash Gorebyss to Garchomp! Prediction is far easier than it was in D/P… just throw a choiced Hurricane or Thunder out and watch stuff die. It may be just my inexperience with B/W, but I had a solid rating in D/P, around 1400-1500, and now I wouldn’t mind making 1300+. Any suggestions are welcome, including EV changes, move changes, and mon changes.

The foundation of my team is quite often seen in other squads.

Detailed Analysis:

Politoed (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SAtk
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Perish Song
- Protect
- Ice Beam

As a drizzle team, this guy is my only option. Every Politoed set I've seen runs max SDef Evs, but I find that SAtk Evs help a lot in damaging Tyranitar, and other switch ins. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to play a max SDef Ev Politoed? I'm quite satisfied with my set right here, but I could change him up.

Breloom (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Spore
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Seed Bomb

This guy is great. Sleep is just such a powerful effect, and the fact that Tyranitar is so common allows me often to use him as a lead to face Tyranitars, Hippowdons, and other slow sillies and get off a free spore. Then next, depending if they have anyone who can handle Breloom or not, I either throw out a focus punch or substitute up. I've ended quite a few games with just Breloom, or gotten a double/triple kill with him.

Thundurus (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunder
- Volt Switch
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Stolen from another guy's RMT, this set works exceedingly well. The only problem that I have with this is the lack of flexibility. But seriously, with an incredible 111 speed, who needs flexibility? Choiced Thunders hurt. A lot.

Another set that I considered was the set with Hammer Arm, because I hate hate HATE focus blast's accuracy. Any recommendations? I'm quite glad with Thundurus the way he is.

Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip

I decided to pack all of my SDef into Ferrothorn, which might not have been the best of ideas. Having all my SDef allows me to tank special attacks quite well, but the times I switch into physical moves hurt quite a lot more than they did when i was a mixed 128/128. Also, power whip, spikes, or protect? All have their pluses and cons.

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunder
- Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power [Fire]

This set hits hard, especially with Thunder and Surf under rain. However, he dies quickly and I don't really feel like he is pulling his weight well. Perhaps there is another rain abuser that I could be using more effectively? Or perhaps there is a better set?

Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Swords Dance
- Facade
- Earthquake

Lastly, I had a ground type put in, because I was sick of rotoms and thundurus abusing Volt Switch on me constantly. Gliscor is just a very solid pokemon overall in this generation... yet I don't think I'm running the ideal set. Anyone else have any clues about the popular Gliscor sets this generation?

My thoughts right now is perhaps switching Gliscor out for Excadrill with rapid spin and switching out Latios for a lightning rod Zapdos. Thoughts?

Cool team, I like the idea of spamming volt switches with your Thundurus. Therefore I say : Spikes > Power Whip.

And on your Latios use Specs Latios with trick over HP fire or use recover over HP fire with the set you use now.

I also agree , it is a great team, that Thundurus looks menacing.
On a side note keep power whip as the combination of stealth rocks, spikes, and leech seed are illegal.
I really like your breloom but have you ever tried the mach punch set?
It could really help if you vs'd a sandstorm team as it will always OHKO excadrill not that you would really even need it, but it could stop him from doing some unwanted damage to your team.
Also you should run psycho cut or psychic on latios for STAB power and this will also take care of any bulky conkeldurr or any other fighting types, as your team hasnt got much to counter them.

But its all up to your preference ultimately, if you find things are going good leave them, but these are some of the changes i would make.

Thanks for the help everyone. The reason that I have hidden power fire on Latios right now is that I have zero fire attacks, unfortunately. That being said, it's funny as @#$% switching into a Ferrothorn with Latios and having the other player sit there a while in confusion before setting up spikes and eating a hidden power.

Mostly I think I need help with Gliscor, Politoed, and my Ferrothorn's EVs. Any suggestions there? Thanks!

Some ideas from a fellow rain user:@Politoed: If you're running Perish Song+Protect, I recommend shifting the SpAtk to SpDef for added survivability. I also recommend Toxic or Encore over Ice Beam, because Latios/Thundurus/Ferrothorn handle most Dragons anyway.@Breloom: Standard set, solid, you must have made a mistake writing out the EVs because it should have another four somewhere.@Thundurus: I like that, but I would recommend Hammer Arm over Focus Blast for added accuracy and because it handles Blissey better.@Ferrothorn: Recommend Spikes over Power Whip because you will be forcing a lot of switches.@Latios: HP Fire doesn't seem like a good idea in rain - for Steels except Ferrothorn, Surf/Thunder in rain will actually hit harder. If you really want to cripple Ferrothorn, you may want to experiment with Specs/Scarf and Trick, which also renders opposing Blissey useless.@Gliscor: That sounds fine for an offensive Gliscor set. If you want something more defensive, try EQ/Roost/Taunt/Fling or something along that line. You may also opt for Roost over Taunt on your current set for more survivability, so Gliscor doesn't have to worry as much about hits on the special side.

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't toxic orb + roost illegal? That would be so imba...

I'll try out choice scard on Latias, that seems to be a good idea. Also, Scizor seems like he'll be a great fit, what with the fire damage reduction and all... but I'm not sure who I can take out....

Sorry, you're right, can't have Poison Heal with Roost.

As for Scizor, making a spot for it seems difficult. The best thing I would advise would be to replace Ferrothorn with it, making your team more offensively oriented, and then changing Gliscor to a Leftovers, defensive build with Roost + SR. However, I'm not sure whether you'd be comfortable with that much of a change, your choice.

I'm pretty sure I've fought you/this team about twice, actually, yesterday on PO, and I must say I really like it. :D

My only suggestions would be:
-As stated a few posts above, HP fire is useless in rain. As a rain user myself I was struggling with the same problem until I realized that most rain boosted water moves do the trick.
-Definitely give Politoed Toxic. Having duel-status inducing moves is great and leaves him great versatility for crippling other teams. Problematic Tyranitar? Yay scald! Being walled? Toooooxic.

Besides those two nitpicks, the team looks great.

@TwistedSpaceman
It is highly likely I encountered you, I WAS messing on PO yesterday, as Smogon was down. I hope I didnt end up trash talking you, I tend to do that sometimes XD Don't think I'll be using toxic though... I really need perish song to deal with baton passers, reuniclus, shedninja (ALMOST LOST TO THIS, THEN REMEMBERED PERISH SONG AWWWW YEAHHHHHH)

I took everyone's suggestions into account and implemented these changes. The largest change that I made was taking out Breloom for Cloyster because Cloyster is... well, to put it eloquently, Cloyster is f@#$ing retarded broken ^^. After losing a few frustrating games to shell smash passed Garchomp and shell smash cloyster, I decided to slap him in, and Cloyster is one more ice resistance, which is helpful as I have 3 other ice weaknesses on this team.

I'm almost at 1300 on Smogon, hopefully I'll be there tomorrow!
