[SET COMMENTS]

Focus Sash allows Dugtrio to trap threats that it wouldn't normally be able to assuming that Dugtrio is at full health, such as Zeraora, Kyurem, and Bisharp. Reversal works excellently with Focus Sash, as it allows Dugtrio to deal major damage to the likes of Kyurem and Ferrothorn when Dugtrio is at low health. Screech is necessary to lower the defense of bulkier Pokemon that Dugtrio aims to trap, such as Clefable and Toxapex. Substitute allows Dugtrio to sub down to low health on slower Pokemon, allowing it to safely use Reversal. Substitute also allows Dugtrio to avoid an inopportune freeze when attempting to trap Kyurem, and can cross up Bisharp attempting to use Sucker Punch. 29 HP IVs allow Dugtrio to sub down to 1 HP.

Hazard removal is imperative when using Dugtrio, as it relies on its Focus Sash to trap the threats it is tasked with. Corviknight and Mandibuzz are both exemplary partners, as they can Defog and then use U-turn to get Dugtrio in safely. Pokemon that appreciate Zeraora, Kyurem and Choice Scarf Terrakion being removed, such as Mandibuzz, Seismitoad, Cloyster, and Toxapex, enjoy Dugtrio removing them.

[SET COMMENTS]

Arena Trap allows Dugtrio to trap and eliminate several key Pokemon. This trapping ability allows Dugtrio to support its teammates in a variety of ways, from removing problematic defensive Pokemon such as Toxapex, Clefable, and Sylveon, to threatening wallbreakers such as Tyranitar and Choice Band Terrakion. Stone Edge allows Dugtrio to 2HKO Specially Defensive Mandibuzz and Rotom-Heat. Sucker Punch allows Dugtrio to revenge kill weakened sweepers and Choice Scarf users. Toxic allows Dugtrio to cripple a Pokemon that it can't do too much to normally if it has too, with things such as Hippowdon and Hydreigon being targets. Dugtrio can also use Stealth Rock if there is no setter on the team, but it matches up fairly poorly against common Defoggers like Corviknight and Mandibuzz. Choice Band gives Dugtrio the hike in power it needs to effectively trap a number of threats, most notably 2HKOing Toxapex even if Dugtrio is burned by Scald after the first Earthquake, allowing it to effectively trap and defeat Clefable, and OHKOing Tyranitar. Choice Scarf can also be used on teams that need threats such as Choice Scarf Terrakion and Zeraora taken care of, but the loss in power if very noticeable. A Jolly Nature is required to outspeed threats such as Terrakion and Cinderace

Dugtrio's trapping abilities allow it to fit on a wide variety of playstyles. Offensive teams appreciate Dugtrio trapping a key defensive Pokemon that can open a hole for one of its teammates to take advantage of. Toxapex being removed can greatly aid Keldeo and Clefable, for example, while Sylveon and Clefable being taken care of can open a hole for Hydreigon and Dragapult. Defensive teams appreciate Dugtrio trapping threatening breakers such as Choice Band Terrakion. U-turn and Volt Switch support can allow Dugtrio to get in safely, making Pokemon such as Teleport Clefable, Mandibuzz, Rotom-Heat, and Corviknight good partners.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Dugtrio signature Arena Trap allows it to trap and eliminate several key Pokemon in the OverUsed metagame, with Tyranitar, Clefable, Toxapex, and Dracozolt all being prime targets.
  • Dugtrio's unique bag of tricks allows it to trap a wide variety of Pokemon, ranging from fast offensive threats to bulkier defensive Pokemon. idk why these two first bullets aren't just together given they both address Dugtrio trapping. i also dont really love the examples given; tyranitar and dracozolt arent exactly metagame staples imo. i'd prob do excadrill over either of those even though the speed boost from spin gives it a chance to cheese dug with iron head.
  • Dugtrio's excellent speed tier gives Dugtrio the jump on a vast majority of the unboosted metagame and allows it nail many of the tier's faster Pokemon this point feels like filler; sure it's cool dugtrio is faster than most pokemon and can therefore hit them, but what does that actually mean for it? i feel this information may as well be lumped in with the idea of trapping
  • Meanwhile, its access to Screech allows it to weaken the Defense of bulkier Pokemon, allowing Dugtrio to deal much more damage if not taking them out entirely. same here tbh.
  • Dugtrio's extreme frailty prevents it from switching into anything that isn't an Electric-type move, and it provides nothing to a teams defensive integrity outside of said immunity.
  • Arena Trap also doesn't trap Flying-Types or Pokemon with Levitate, and Ghost-types can't be trapped at all. This leaves Dugtrio at the mercy of Pokemon such as Corviknight, Rotom-Wash, and Dragapult. heattom > washtom imo
  • Dugtrio also isn't very strong from the get go, and it struggles to do meaningful damage to bulkier Pokemon that haven't been hit by Screech
  • Dugtrio's impact on the metagame prompts certain trapping prone Pokemon such as Toxapex to sometimes run Shed Shell, which can limit Dugtrio's effectiveness.

Set Description
========

  • Earthquake is Dugtrio's strongest attack when it is healthy and threatens Toxapex, Toxtricity, and Dracozolt.
  • Reversal works well with Focus Sash and grants Dugtrio a 200 BP Fighting-type move when it is at low HP. should probably mention targets for Reversal
  • Screech allows Dugtrio to circumvent its somewhat disappointing power output by lowering the opponents defense two stages. This allows it to deal out much more damage to bulkier enemies such as Toxapex or Clefable.
  • Substitute allows Dugtrio to easily get itself into Reversal range and allows it to play mind games with users of Sucker Punch such as Bisharp.
  • A Jolly nature is required so that Dugtrio can outrun Pokemon such as Cinderace and Tyranitar at +1. dd tyranitar is a meme
  • 29 HP IVs allows Dugtrio to Sub down to 1 HP and take greater advantage of Reversal.

Usage Tips
========

  • Identifying a main target for Dugtrio at Team Preview is generally a good idea. Figure out what threat your team might struggle with and formulate a plan to draw it out and allow Dugtrio to trap it. Luring Tyranitar in with Mandibuzz and then U-Turning into Dugtrio could clear the way for Reuniclus, for example. this second sentence sounds more like a team options bit than a usage tip
  • Dugtrio really can't be confidently switched into anything that isn't a choice-locked Electric-type, so pivoting Dugtrio in through Volt Switch or U-Turn, double switching, or just sending it in after one of your Pokemon has fainted is generally the right move.
  • It is important to keep in mind that Dugtrio isn't actually very strong. Its Earthquake will almost never OHKO Tyranitar even after Stealth Rock, nor does it guarantee a 2HKO onto Toxapex. Clefable also needs significant chip before it is threatened by Dugtrio. Screech remedies this, but either way Dugtrio usually needs more than one turn to actually KO something. As such, it is important that the Focus Sash be kept intact so that Dugtrio can reliably remove Pokemon without fear of being KO'd.
  • Substitute is an effective weapon against foes such as Tyranitar to allow Dugtrio to Substitute down to 1 HP and unleash a full power Reversal. It also has some use against Pokemon Choice Locked into an Electric-Type move, as it allows Dugtrio to set up a Substitute that will not be broken for some extra insurance against whatever comes in next. feel like you should mention again how using sub vs bisharp eases the trapping process, particularly if your sash is broken

Team Options
========

  • Dugtrio trapping ability is beneficial for almost any playstyle. As a result, it fits on a wide variety of teams, ranging from offensive builds to stall.
  • More offensively oriented teams appreciate Dugtrio trapping and removing a defensive threat in order to clear a path for a teams sweeper or wallbreaker. Hawlucha, for example, greatly appreciates the removal of Toxapex before it attempts to sweep, while Tyranitar might be the only thing stopping your Choice Specs Dragapult from cleaning late game. Double Dance Reuniclus needs Tyranitar and Bisharp removed before it even attempts to sweep, while offensive Clefable might need Flareon disposed of in order to wreak havoc. there are definitely more meta relevant examples than Flareon that you can address here
  • Bulkier builds, on the other hand, make use of Dugtrio's ability to remove several threatening wallbreakers. Toxtricity, Dracozolt, Tyranitar, and Bisharp are all threatening breakers that are vulnerable to Dugtrio. Taking these out takes pressure off of these teams defensive integrity and can make them much harder to break. Corviknight, for example, has to run in terror from Toxtricity, but with Dugtrio support this isn't a problem. Galarian Corsola has to play carefully around Bisharp, but Dugtrio can eliminate it and in turn make things easier for Corsola. Dugtrio's ability to trap Cinderace can come in handy for hazard stacking teams that fear a potential Court Change flipping the script on them this feels very unnecessarily long; can't you just simplify this to "pokemon such as x, y, and z commonly found on defensive builds appreciate the removal of threatening wallbreakers such as x, y, and z"?
  • Switching Dugtrio in directly is out of the question in many scenarios, so U-Turn and Volt Switch support is extremely helpful. Mandibuzz and Corviknight are both exemplary partners, as they can utilize U-Turn to get Dugtrio in while also Defogging away hazards to keep Dugtrio's Sash intact. In addition, both of them lure in Toxtricity and Dracozolt, while Mandibuzz lures in Tyranitar, therefore creating opportunities for Dugtrio to trap key targets. Other pivots such as the Rotom formes work as well.
  • Dugtrio's lack of immediate strength can be somewhat remedied by having hazards on the other side of the field. Tyranitar is ironically a pretty good partner, as it can set up Stealth Rock while annoying several Pokemon that Dugtrio can't trap or just straight up struggles against, such as Mandibuzz, Ferrothorn, and Dragapult. In return, Dugtrio can trap Pokemon Tyranitar doesn't like too much, such as Clefable and Toxapex.
  • It's worth noting that, outside of Toxapex, Dugtrio doesn't do too well against many of the tiers Water-Types thanks to its Scald weakness and the fact that they can all take a few hits. This makes Pokemon that can threaten the likes of Seismitoad, Rotom-Wash, and Jellicent good partners as well. Toxtricity can really annoy all of these with its power while also threatening the Flying types that Dugtrio cannot trap. Clefable works as well, as it can punish the passiveness of Seismitoad and Jellicent in particular and threaten them with its powerful attacks.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Sucker Punch can be used to give Dugtrio some leverage against Choice Scarfers and can surprise Dragapult which otherwise gives Dugtrio some serious headaches. It is, however, not very strong, and Dugtrio's great speed tier means it doesn't need the priority that much in a lot of cases.
  • Memento can find use on offensive teams, as Dugtrio can potentially sack itself off after its job is done and give something like Gyarados or Hydreigon a set-up opportunity.
  • Stone Edge can be used to surprise Flying-types such as Gyarados and Mandibuzz that can take advantage of Dugtrio otherwise, although its worth noting that Corviknight, one of the most common Flying-types in the tier, doesn't care either way.
  • Dugtrio does get Stealth Rock, but it's a poor setter thanks to its inability to threaten Corviknight and Mandibuzz, the tiers most common defoggers. As such, it should only be used if Stealth Rock absolutely does not fit anywhere else on your team.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Flying-types**: Flying-types cannot be trapped by Dugtrio and can take advantage of it. Corviknight cannot be trapped and can do whatever it wants in Dugtrio's face, as even if it is hit by Screech it can just switch. Mandibuzz is a similar case, and both can threaten Dugtrio with their attacking options. Gyarados and Togekiss can also set up on sets lacking Stone Edge. stone edge is an oo mention so idrk if it's worth drawing attention to it here frankly. could also talk about mirror armor corvi ig and how that circumvents screech entirely

**Ghost-types**: In a similar vein, Ghost-types can't be trapped by Dugtrio and can take advantage of it. Dragapult is one of Dugtrio's worst nightmares, as it outruns Dugtrio, can switch out if it needs to, and even break the Sash and outright OHKO Dugtrio if its running Dragon Darts. Galarian Corsola isn't threatened by anything Dugtrio can do to it and can cripple it for the rest of the match with a burn. Gengar and Aegislash aren't trapped either, although neither of them want to take a stray Earthquake so they must play carefully anyways. All of the aforementioned Ghosts expect for Corsola have to keep Sucker Punch in mind as well. again, sucker punch is an oo mention so not sure if u really need to talk about it

**Pokemon with Levitate**: Pokemon with the Levitate ability cannot be trapped either, and Dugtrio doesn't have a way to consistently hit them hard unless Reversal is at full power. Hydreigon can hit Dugtrio hard with everything it has, while the Rotom Formes can burn Dugtrio or just straight up slam it with Overheat or Hydro Pump. None of these Pokemon want to take a full powered Reversal, however. honestly i'm wondering if you should just combine these first three sections into one titled "untrappable pokemon" or something to that degree. like the main point you seem to be selling here is that "these pokemon aren't able to be trapped and thus take advantage of dugtrio". i'd definitely condense down the info were you to do this

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Dugtrio's lack of power means that certain bulky Pokemon don't mind what it throws at it. Hippowdon can take a hit from Dugtrio while threatening it with Earthquake or just phasing it. Ferrothorn has to be careful of a full powered Reversal but Dugtrio's Earthquake barely scratches it and Dugtrio can't dream of taking a Power Whip. Ferrothorn also has Iron Barbs, which is a big problem for Dugtrio as Reversal is a contact move and for Dugtrio has to be at very low health for Reversal to be remotely threatening to Ferrothorn. Seismitoad, Jellicent, and Milotic threaten Dugtrio hard with Scald as well while initially not taking too much damage.

**Strong Priority**: Priority users such as Conkeldurr, Crawdaunt, and Aegislash can take Dugtrio out before it can move, although Crawdaunt and Aegislash don't want to take Dugtrio's attacks and therefore function better as revenge killers for it.

**Faster Pokemon**: Dugtrio is extremely fast, but the tiers Choice Scarfers, as well as Dragapult, can outrun and cleanly revenge kill it, and Dragapult doesn't even need the Sash broken if its running Dragon Darts should probably mention some scarfers

**Shed Shell**: Dugtrio's presence in the metagame has prompted certain Pokemon, most notably Toxapex and Tyranitar, to sometimes run Shed Shell just to escape Dugtrio, therefore preventing it from trapping them.

[SET COMMENTS]

Dugtrio's signature Arena Trap allows it to trap and eliminate several key Pokemon, with Clefable, Sylveon, Toxapex, Choice
Band Terrakion, and Excadrill all being prime targets. Arena Trap is not Dugtrio's signature and it's fluff. Stone Edge allows Dugtrio to 2HKO Specially Defensive Mandibuzz and Rotom-Heat. Sucker Punch allows Dugtrio to revenge kill weakened sweepers, Choice Scarfers, and Dragapult. Reversal takes advantage of Dugtrio's poor defenses and allows it to hit Corviknight, Hydreigon, and Ferrothorn hard if Dugtrio is at low health, although keep Ferrothorn's Iron Barb recoil in mind. Reversal is super situational and will pretty much never actually come into play. Toxic is more generally useful. Dugtrio can also use Stealth Rock if there is no setter on the team, but it matches up fairly poorly against common Defoggers like Corviknight and Mandibuzz, so it should generally not be used unless it does not fit elsewhere on your team. Memento can also be used on offensive teams to give a teammate like Gyarados or Swords Dance Terrakion a set up opportunity. Do not use Memento ever. Choice Band gives Dugtrio the hike in power it needs to effectively trap a number of threats, most notably 2HKOing Toxapex even if Dugtrio is burned by Scald after the first Earthquake, and OHKOing Tyranitar. A Jolly Nature is required to outspeed threats such as Terrakion, Gengar Cinderace, and Keldeo. Gengar's a poor example, you don't trap it; it will never stay in.

As a more general comment, I think a little too much time is spent talking about coverage moves, they're barely relevant in what Dugtrio does. I think a little more stress should be put on how good trapping really is.

Tyranitar being trapped could also allow Reuniclus or Dragapult to clean late game. Tyranitar's not really an issue that warrants trapping support for either. Defensive teams appreciate Dugtrio trapping threatening breakers such as Choice Band Terrakion and Toxtricity. U-turn and Volt Switch support can allow Dugtrio to get in safely, making partners such as Mandibuzz, Rotom-Heat, and Corviknight good partners.

Arena Trap allows Dugtrio to trap and eliminate several key Pokemon, with Clefable, Sylveon, Toxapex, Choice Band Terrakion, and Excadrill all being prime targets. This trapping ability allows Dugtrio to support its teammates in a variety of ways, from removing problematic defensive Pokemon to threatening wallbreakers. A couple of examples of teammates that you can support would be very useful to paint a more accurate picture. Stone Edge allows Dugtrio to 2HKO Specially Defensive Mandibuzz and Rotom-Heat. Sucker Punch allows Dugtrio to revenge kill weakened sweepers, Choice Scarfers, and Dragapult. Dragapult's not trapped and if it is staying in, it's likely clicking Will-O-Wisp. Toxic allows Dugtrio to cripple a Pokemon that it can't do too much to normally if it has too, with things such as Hippowdon and Hydreigon being targets. Dugtrio can also use Stealth Rock if there is no setter on the team, but it matches up fairly poorly against common Defoggers like Corviknight and Mandibuzz, so it should generally not be used unless it does not fit elsewhere on your team. You also don't trap Clefable without Choice Band. It's definitely worth noting that you can run Choice Scarf; trapping Zeraora and Choice Scarf Terrakion can mean a lot for certain teams. Focus Sash allows Dugtrio to trap threats that it wouldn't normally be able to assuming that Dugtrio is at full health, such as Zeraora, Choice Scarf Terrakion Kyurem, and Bisharp. Kyurem is perhaps the most important target of Focus Sash Dugtrio right now. Choice Scarf Terrakion is the easiest to replace because it's never really a primary target for trapping anyways. Reversal works excellently with Focus Sash, as it allows Dugtrio to deal major damage to the likes of Hydreigon and Rotom-H Kyurem and Ferrothorn when Dugtrio is at low health. Kyurem and Ferrothorn are actual trapping targets, neither Hydreigon or Rotom-H are. Screech is necessary to lower the defense of bulkier Pokemon that Dugtrio aims to trap, such as Clefable and Toxapex. Substitute allows Dugtrio to sub down to low health on slower Pokemon, allowing it to safely use Reversal. 29 HP IVs allow Dugtrio to sub down to 1 HP.
