Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 64 Def / 192 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Draining Kiss
- Taunt
[SET COMMENTS]
Calm Mind Tapu Fini acts as a threatening wincon and defensive piece, being able to answer common offensive threats such as Zamazenta, Urshifu-R and Weavile with ease. It can also leverage its ability, Misty Surge, very well, allowing it and its teammates to setup or pivot with greater ease. Draining Kiss, when coupled with Calm Mind, can turn Tapu Lele into a dangerous wincon, being able to damage and recover health against foes such as Tapu Lele and Slowbro. Taunt is used to prevent setup sweepers such as IDBP Zama and NP Tornadus-T from getting out of hand, while also denying Ferrothorns Leech Seed and Toxic from Toxapex and Alomomola after Misty Terrain has ended. 192 Speed EVs are used in order to outspeed max speed Modest Heatran. Leftovers is the item of choice in order to improve its longevity across a game, making up for its lack of reliable recovery.
Calm Mind Tapu Fini firs primarily on bulky offense teams, where its role as a bulky wincon and switchin against Dark- and Fighting-types is appreciated. Teammates such as Gholdengo and Pecharunt that struggle with Dark-types like Weavile and Kingambit therefore appreciate Tapu Finis defensive capabilities, with both in return providing a switch in against Grass-types such as Rillaboom and Serperior. Other good partners include Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Heatran, both of who provide another Grass-type resist, with the former being able to answer Ogerpon-W decently well, as well as a Steel-type resistance against opposing Gholdengo and Melmetal. In return Tapu Fini provides a Fighting-type resistance against foes such as Zamazenta and Urshifu-R. Tapu Fini also often finds breaking down Steel-types difficult, meaning teammates such as your own Zamazenta, or Fire-types such as Volcarona are greatly enjoyed. In exchange Tapu Fini can switch in on and find setup opportunities against Water-types such a Alomomola who could otherwise prove troublesome. Another problem Tapu Fini can have is against Electric-types such as Tapu Koko and Raging Bolt, meaning Ground-types such as Ting Lu and specially defensive Gliscor are excellent partners, with Tapu Fini in return providing an excellent Water-type resist against Urshifu-R and Scald Toxapex, neither of which they would want to stay in against.
