Recently Pokemon announced a new online competition called "Enter the Dragon Type" which is a double battle format and I decided I would enter in and try it out. I created this team after trying it out for a bit and edit it a bit up. The team I posted here is the final team after some additions and subtractions. So here we go..
Team At a Glance
Seems like a Bulky Offenseive team. In the competition you must have one Dragon type, or a pokemon that Mega evolves and gains a dragon type(Ampharos) or an Arceus holding the Draco Plate. I can have only two legendaries so Lugia aka the Great Wall was chosen. The rest of the team a standard pokemon on Battle Spot Doubles.
In Depth
Okaze (Rayquaza-Mega) @ Yache Berry
Ability: Delta Stream
Level: 50
EVs: 230 Atk / 26 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- ExtremeSpeed
- Dragon Ascent
- Earthquake/Protect
Since the Rules say at least one Dragon Type most be on the team so this Tier Wrecker is completely allowed. I gave him max Spe so he could outspeed the competition. I have him some EVs into SpD with the Yache Berry so he could survive an ice type attack with Delta Stream up. Sword Dance in case I get a chance to set up one and sweep. Extreme Speed is simply for a quick kill. Dragon Ascent is its main STAB that comes with only a defense drop. EQ hits the whole field since the team revolves around Mega Rayquaza's Delta Stream and half the team are flying types while The rest need Protect to stay out of its way. You could run Protect over Earthquake just to keep the Strong Winds going for another turn.
Loogie (Lugia) @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Thunder Wave
- Calm Mind
- Aeroblast
Based of the Great Wall set, I choose Lugia as my second Legendary for my team. It is the needed bulk with Thunder Wave allowing me to slow down opponents for the slower members of my team to finish off. Roost for a stable way of regaing HP. I gave him max Def so I could give him Calm Mind to become even more bulky and to boost Aeroblast which is his only attacking move with the chance to dish out any crits. As said before this team revolves around Delta Stream so his only weakness are Ghost and Dark both which are resisted by Azumarill, Amoonguss and Bisharp. I gave him 0 Atk IVs so any Foul Plays won't do that much to him like Yyvetal.
Blackout (Zapdos) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Pressure
Level: 50
EVs: 248 HP / 100 Def / 160 SpD
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Tailwind
With Delta Stream up, Zapdos has absolutely no weakness. His point it to be along lasting fighter with Roost allowing him to get back HP and Heat Wave and Thunderbolt to take care of ice types if Mega-Ray goes down. Tailwind allows Lugia to set up before the opponent attacks and Azumarill to check Fast Dragon types which every team must have one dragon type. I made him able to eat up a few Ice Beams that comes his way and other hits. Ice beam from a Max SpA Attack Suicune does only 20-23%. So he makes up the final part of this teams core.
RoyallyScrewed (Bisharp) (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Defiant
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 8 SpD / 248 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Protect
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
The most common Pokemon in VGC second to only Mega Kangashkan. I chose him mainly for defiant and for fast dragon types like Salamence which will probably be in the competition. When Salamence comes in with Intimidate and I get boost then Sucker Punch does 65-78% to a Mega Salamence which I havea feeling will be common. Knock Off is mandatory and I wanted Low Kick for Mega Kangashkan but chose Protect for Safety from Mega Rayquaza's EQ.
Druggie (Amoonguss) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 50
EVs: 200 HP / 56 SpA / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Protect
- Rage Powder
- Spore
I realized my team needed some extra bulk and so Ammonguss works well because I redirect attacks away from Mega-Ray to preserve Delta Stream and take a hit for the team. I specifically made him specially defensive since Lugia is my Physical wall and I need a Pokemon to wall Suicune which slows down Lugia with Snarl, Ice Beam to do about 20% to Mega-Ray but once the Yache Berry has popped then that leaves him vulnerable. I was thinking about Sludge Bomb over Giga Drain because Giga drain is resisted and Sludge Bomb could cause Poison but Giga Drain gets HP back.
Bleezus (Azumarill) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Aqua Jet
The Blue Yeezus is the best way of taking out other Dragon Types on the other team. Being immune to the type and having two moved to take down tons of Dragon types. However Dialga is viable for the competition and only Mega-Ray could handle it with Earthquake. I used the simple OU set since it works pretty well in double battles. Ice Punch and Play Rough OHKO a majority of the dragon types a person could have on their team. Waterfall and Aqua Jet are staple moves so they are always going to be there.
