Erosion [OU RMT]

Introduction

This team has been by far the most enjoyable and creative team I haved in my time plying 5th Gen OU, which, despite my postcount, is pretty long. I have always struggled to find something that attracts me as a player. I don't using sommon stratages such as Volt-Turn or rain stall. Weather in general is commonplace to truely be effective consistently on the ladder. I decided to get creative and build a stall team of sorts. When I first built it, it was a full stall team that didn't use some of the pokemon people associate with stall like Ferrothorn or Blissey, but I learned why those pokemon are used so commonly. I didn't feel anything was wrong with the team idea because when I would win with it, I won easily. I decided to try to morph some of the teams I had been using into a sort of semi-stall kinda of team that one could see on the 4th gen OU ladder. It would be impossible to fully explain the team building process because of this, but what I can say is that this team is about weakening down a team with tricks and hazards so that SubCM Jirachi can sweep the opponent.

Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 36 Def / 220 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Toxic
- Recover
- Scald

I know that everyone and their brother will say that I should Politoed over Jellicent. Politoed really helps my overall strategy of a Jirachi sweep and it will help out my overall weakeness to fire attacks because of the rain. There are two reasons why I have picked Jellicent over Politoed. (1.) Politoed doesn't have any reliable recover which makes it a worse overall wall than Jellicent, and (2.) Politoed doesn't block rapid spin, which is some much more important than some of the players might think because I hate wasting turns to set up hazards when I could be ending the game.

Now that I have finished that, I can explain the set and role. Jellicent plays a huge role as a general spin blocker and a really effective counter to all spinners. I am sure everyone knows the calcs that prove my point but LO Starmie fails to 2HKO even without a full investment, unless it has rocks, which is very rare because of Donphan's effectiveness. The other great thing Jellicent does is hard counter all fire types though Heatrans are now often running toxic which is really annoying to my team. The EV's and item are standard for a specially defensive Jellicent. The 36 Def EVs prevent Starmie from 2HKOing me with Psyshock. The moves are also standard: Scald is for the burn chance, Toxic helps to kill Rotom-Ws, Shadow Ball is to hit Starmie, and Recover is necessary.

Salamence (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Dragon Tail
- Flamethrower

This is one of the weirdest, but most effective sets I have ever used. I would run Dragonite do to Dragonite being better at using at using a bulky set, but I need Wish and Intimidate, and Heal Bell is illegal with Multiscale. Also, Dragonite doesn't quite have the same amount of kick Salamence has, even though Salamence doesn't invest in any offensive stats. The idea of this set is to come in on any of the pokemon that Salamence forces out and have fun. I can wish pass, scout for choice moves with protect, or shuffle around their team.

Dragon Tail is a great move to force the switch to take hazards again and to prevent pokemon from setting up on my team. Flamethrower prevents the biggest spike stackers in OU, Skarmory, Forretress, and Ferrothorn, from stacking spikes because of Dragon Tail has a minus 6 priority. The EVs are standard for the rare set, but the 16 Spe allows me to outspeed Adamant Breloom.

Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Recover
- Leech Seed
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Very rarely have I made a 5th Gen team that did not have Celebi on it. Celebi is an increadibly useful defensive pivot that can run threw entire unprepared teams. Celebi is increadibly effective at walling large chunks of rain and sand teams, which makes the games a lot easier to win. It also serves as a great last minute check to a lot of scary pokemon like Conkeldurr and Terrakion, but of her typing. Celebi is also fantastic at forcing switches because of endless amounts of health this set provides it. This is easily the second most important pokemon on my team.

The move set is designed to recover as much HP in a small amount of time. Giga Drain is a solid STAB, Recover is a reliable form of recovery, Leech Seed always me to force switches more efficently than Roar, and Hidden Power is great as a coverage move. The EV's are standard for Celebi, except that 36 Spd EV's are required to outspeed Tyranitar because Hidden Power [Fire] lowers my Spd IVs.

Skarmory (M) @ Shed Shell
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird

Skarmory is still one the best walls in the game despite the huge increase in power from the generation switch. It functions as the spiker for my team because of its ability to defeat many of the huge threats in the OU metagame. Excluding Taunt Gliscor, some Landorus and some Terrakion, Skarmory completely all only physical attackers in OU. Skarmory also does a great job of setting up on other walls because of her immunity to toxic and generally apathy for burn and paralysis.

Skarmory's set is very standard in this metagame. I chose to run shed shell over leftovers because I have roost anyway and I cannot afford to lose my spiker at any point during the game. All of the moves are neccessary on Skarmory, and the EVs are standard, but I would be open to a better spread because I don't like 252/252 spreads.

Donphan (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Atk / 176 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin

Every stall team needs a spinner, and for better or worse, Donphan is my spinner and Stealth Rock user. It's not that Donphan sucks, but except for being an amazing Tyranitar counter, Donphan cannot do much of anything. But Donphan is one of the best Tyranitar counters in the game and Donphan also functions are a fantastic last chance check to a bunch
of dragons and some physical pokemon that can defeat Skarmory.

The EV's are standard for Donphan, and I like this set over a 252/252 one because now Ice Shard can actually hit something for ten percent. Ice Shard can hit certain Dragons that could pose a huge threat to me, so I am resilient to change that move. Earthquake is a necessary STAB move that can hit really hard, Stealth Rocks and Rapid Spin are the reason for using Donphan.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt

Substitute Calm Mind Jirachi is a lot more poplular than it use to be. I still chose Jirachi over a lot of other sweepers in OU who could of fit here because of the type synergy, and because I needed something that could surprise the opponent. Jirachi fits this position like a glove because of the amazing synergy it has with the rest of the team. Jirachi functions as a check to things like Nasty Plot Celebi, Choiced Terrakion who could really do damage, Hyrdeigon, though Jirachi is a crappy check to that, and pretty any special sweeper slower than it who could beat Jellicent. Jirachi is also able to force out many pokemon and set up on them. The fact that this Jirachi can set up on some many walls in OU is what gave it the spot on my team.

The EVs do what they need to do. The HP gives 101 subs, so I can set up on Blissey and Dusclops, and max speed to attempt to sweep. Substitute allows me to set up on walls, dodge dragon tail, protect myself from status, ease prediction, prevent most revenge killing, and stop tricksters. It's basically the perfect move here. Calm Mind allows me to do stuff under the substitute. Flash Cannon is a solid-ish STAB move, and it really helps me beat Tyranitar, and Thunderbolt is a great general coverage move.

Threatlist coming soon

Yeah that's my team. I'm not that great of a battler, and I tend to get really annoyed when I battle, so I have only broken 1300 with this team once. Have fun rating my team.

With 3 weaknesses to Fire and no real reliable check to LO Hydra, adding something to check it would be useful

Hi Lan119

Pretty cool and interesting stall team you have here, I really like that Salamence set. Now looking at your team, Offensive Sun teams with Venusaur can prove threatening. With its combination of a Grass STAB attack and HP Fire, Venusaur is able to hit every member of your team for Super Effective damage save for Salamence which can be hit with either Sleep Powder or Sludge Bomb. As TrollFreak mentioned, another threat to your team includes Special attacking Dragons such as Hydreigon and Lati@s as your only check to them at the moment is Jirachi who can be hit hard by Fire Blast and Hidden Power Fire respectively. For these threats, I recommend replacing Jellicent with a standard Blissey with a moveset of Toxic / Seismic Toss / Wish / Protect. As you already know, Blissey is the premiere Special wall in the game, easily tanking special attacks and being able to chip away at Venusaur with Seismic Toss and stall out Hydreigon/Lati@s with Toxic. Wish is a great option for your team as not only is Blissey able to heal herself, she is able to pass on massive 357 HP wishes to her teammates which heals a majority of them back to full health and allows them to continue tanking hits. Protect is a good move choice as it allows you to basically heal up instantly with Wish, scouts your Choice locked moves, and also provides an extra turn of Leftovers recovery. Finally Toxic is used to wear down special attackers and walls while Seismic Toss is used for consistent damage output. One consequence of using Blissey over Jellicent is that you will lose your spinblocker so keep this in mind but after playtesting, the advantages of using Blissey are greater.

Now for some smaller changes. First I would recommend changing Skarmory’s EV spread to a slightly speedier one of 252 HP / 228 Def / 28 Spd with an Impish Nature. The reason for the 28 Spd EVs is to outspeed the standard onsite EV spread which many players on the ladder will be using. This allows you to phaze out the opponent’s Skarmory with Whirlwind before they can do the same to you. Making this change will cause you to lose a bit of bulk, but it is not extremely noticeable and the ability to win Whirlwind speed ties is very advantageous. Another suggestion I have is replacing Wish on Salamence with Roost. If you implement the change for Blissey, you will already have a Wish passer and so it will be more beneficial to have instant recovery on Salamence in order to be able to heal back whenever necessary.

Hope I helped and good luck with your team!

Set:

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Toxic
- Wish
- Protect
- Seismic Toss

tl;dr

Jellicent ----> Blissey
Skarmory's EV Spread ----> 252 HP / 228 Def / 28 Spd with Impish Nature
Wish on Salamence ----> Roost

He's got 2 fire resists, one of them being farily bulky w/ recovery, so I think thats good, but still this guy needs a hydra counter indeed.

May I suggest running an offensive Salamence set? You could put wish the wish on jirachi, and make it an average paraflincher, then you could at least outspeed Hydreigon w/ Salamence (although a predicted dragon pulse on the switch will still cripple you).

Thanks for the rates. I have been beaten by a lot of sun teams, but I am usually able to beat Venusaur, but it has swept me several times. I have tried to use blissey over Jellicent and then run dragonite over Salamence because, with Mutliscale, Dragonite is a better waller than Salamence. Salamence really can only use wish. The biggest and most annoying issue I have faced when I used this team is Infernape. With Hidden Power [Ice], Infernape will 6-0 if their are stealth rocks. Darmantain could do a very similar thing to that. I also love to have that fighting immunity because Salamence really struggles to survive multiple blows with stealth rocks. Resetting up hazards every time is annoying as well. Hydeigon has 6-0ed me under a subs before so I will try the idea anyway. I love that Skarmory set though, will test that.

Any other rates would be loved.
