[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its high Special Attack and nice Speed, Choice Specs Eternatus is a threatening wallbreaker in the metagame as only Ice Scales users and Fairy-types can reliably switch into its Dragon STAB moves. Dragon's Maw-boosted Dragon Energy OHKOes common Dragon-types like Giratina, Palkia, and Zygarde-C and non-Dragon-resistant foes like Regigigas while also being capable of 2HKOing even Dragon-resistant foes such as Solgaleo, Zamazenta-C, and Ferrothorn. Sludge Wave OHKOes Fairy-type switch-ins like Xerneas and Tapu Fini. Blue Flare allows Eternatus to hit Steel-types like Zamazenta-C and Registeel after its health is chipped. Volt Switch alternatively lets Eternatus gain momentum on Steel-type switch-ins while also making it easier to Imposter-proof using a Steel-type. Clanging Scales provides Eternatus with an alternative Dragon-type STAB move after it has been chipped; Core Enforcer is another option that is slightly weaker but has more PP and does not lower Eternatus's Defense. A Modest nature is necessary to 2HKO Zamazenta-C with Dragon Energy while still outspeeding it.

Eternatus appreciates Spikes setters such as Regigigas and Lunala, as they chip down Steel-types like Zamazenta-C and Magearna as well as Imposter users. Teammates with Magic Bounce or Rapid Spin like Xerneas and Ho-Oh are also important, as Eternatus should avoid any chip damage from entry hazards to fire off Dragon Energy at maximum power. Eternatus is forced out by Imposter users, especially Choice Scarf variants, although it is able to Speed tie with non-Choice Scarf variants and potentially OHKO them. Fighting- and Ground-types like Low Kick Zamazenta-C, Groudon, and Zygarde-C make for great teammates, as they can trap and threaten Ice Scales Steel-types for Eternatus; additionally, teammates like Ice Scales or Flash Fire Magearna and Zamazenta-C are vital to help check an Imposter user transformed into Eternatus.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Trick and Final Gambit are both passable alternatives over Blue Flare to cripple or immediately eliminate a special wall respectively, but Eternatus is usually able to make progress on its own; The former reduces its firepower, while the latter removes Eternatus from battle. A set utilizing Trick, Final Gambit, and Recover with Dragon Energy as its only attack allows Eternatus to cripple a wall while staying healthy and hitting hard with Dragon Energy, although this set is easily stopped by Fairy-types. An Adaptability set with Core Enforcer, Sludge Bomb, Recover, Final Gambit, and Black Sludge is also an alternative; while this set can cripple walls with poison and is less prediction reliant, it is much weaker than the Choice Specs set and cannot beat Steel-types.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Steel-types resist both of Eternatus's STAB moves and can check its coverage attacks when using Ice Scales and Flash Fire. However, frailer Flash Fire Steel-types like Solgaleo and Ferrothorn risk getting 2HKOed by Choice Specs Dragon Energy.

**Imposter Users**: While Imposter users cannot directly switch into Eternatus, they can threaten to KO Eternatus and force it out, especially if they are equipped with a Choice Scarf.

**Chip Damage**: Eternatus relies on being healthy to ensure Dragon Energy has high Base Power, and chip damage from entry hazards, pivot moves, and status can limit its potential as a wallbreaker.

**Protection Moves**: Against Choice Specs Eternatus, having a protection move to scout for its attack is greatly useful, as this lets the opponent switch into a Fairy-, Steel-, or Dragon-type accordingly. Notable users that carry protection moves include Poison Heal Tapu Fini, Palkia, and Giratina.

Thanks to its high Special Attack and nice Speed, Choice Specs Eternatus is one of the hardest hitting wallbreakers a threatening wallbreaker in the metagame, being as it OHKOes common Dragon-types like Giratina, Palkia, and Zygarde-C and is capable of 2HKOing even resists such as Solgaleo, Zamazenta-C, and Aegislash Ferrothorn. Dragon Energy, (remove comma) coupled with Dragon's Maw, (remove comma) hits incredibly hard, making only Fairy-types and Ice Scales users able to reliably switch into it. Sludge Wave hits aforementioned Fairy-types however, such as Xerneas and Tapu Fini I think it is important to note that specs wave OHKOs these guys, not just hits them. but it should be noted that sludge wave isn't as spammable due to common steel-types. Blue Flare hits specially defensive (it hits all steels, not just spd ones) Steel-types like Zamazenta-C and Registeel while preventing Magearna and Zacian-C from switching into the rest of this set freely. Add Volt Switch here. It is good for improofing with Zacian-C or other Steel-types that don't mind taking a hit and also gains momentum Clanging Scales provides Eternatus with a decently strong attack an alternative Dragon STAB move after it has been chipped; Core Enforcer is another option that is slightly weaker, (add comma) but has more PP and does not lower its Defense. Timid is the preferred nature to outspeed as many Pokemon as possible and preserve Dragon Energy power, though the extra speed is not needed in most scenarios Timid is not preferred here. You already outspeed Zama-C and most defense eternatus aren't +speed either. Modest give the most power and picks up the big damage on non-scales zama-c.) Talk about how Modest is needed to pick up the 2HKO on non scales/vest Zama-C and still outspeeds it.

Eternatus appreciates teammates that can set Spikes, such as Zacian-C and Regigigas, as they can put Steel-types like non-Ice Scales Zamazenta-C into 2HKO range of Dragon Energy (modest specs dragon energy already 2HKOes +spd non-scales zama-c without spikes), or non-Flash Fire Magearna into OHKO range of Blue Flare (non FF mag includes pixilate, which is OHKOed without spikes, and Ice Scales or RegenVest, which are 2HKOed without spikes. On the other hand, teammates with Magic Bounce or Rapid Spin like Ho-Oh and Magearna are important, as Eternatus should avoid any chip damage from entry hazards to fire off Dragon Energy at maximum power. Eternatus is forced out by faster Pokemon, (add comma) namely Zacian-C and Pheromosa, (add comma) as they often carry super effective coverage moves like Glacial Lance; pair it with physical walls like (if you mean Fur Coat here, I think you should specifically say it) Kyogre and Solgaleo, which can also safely bring Eternatus in via Flip Turn or Teleport with pivot moves. While Eternatus can OHKO non-Eviolite Imposter on switch-in, it is forced out by Imposter, especially Choice Scarf variants, on a free switch if Imposter is brought by an opposing pivot. Teammates like Ice Scales or Flash Fire Magearna and Zamazenta-C are vital to help check an Imposter transformed as Eternatus. I think you should mention fighting- and ground-type teammates that can threaten fire immune/scales zama-c and magearna.

Talking with the QC team, we think this set is ok but best for Other Options. The set below is what we came up with that seems more optimal than the original slashes
move 1: Core Enforcer
move 2: Sludge Bomb
move 3: Recover
move 4: Final Gambit

[SET COMMENTS]
Eternatus is a formidable offensive pivot in the metagame, possessing a great special attack and Adaptability backed up with good natural bulk. Core Enforcer is a strong STAB move that threatens to 2HKO common Dragon-types such as Giratina and Palkia, or can be used to suppress faster Pokemon's abilities like boosted and Giratina's Prankster. Sludge Bomb dents Fairy-types that attempts to switch into Core Enforcer, such as Xerneas and Tapu Fini, and threatens to poison any defensive Pokemon that are not immune to it. Volt Switch allows Eternatus to chip and pivot out of unfavorable matchups namely Steel-types, fulfilling its role as an offensive pivot. Alternatively, running Blue Flare lets Eternatus 2HKO Steel-types like physically bulky Zamazenta-C, Registeel, as well as Zacian-C. Final Gambit is thepreferred 4th move, utilizing Eternatus's high HP to dent or even OHKO walls like Ice Scales Zamazenta-C for another teammate to wallbreak. Recover is an alternative that gives Eternatus much needed staying power, but it doesn't switch into many threats to be able to utilize it well. Spikes lets Eternatus make progress against Steel-types, further wearing down defensive Pokemon for teammates. Black Sludge lets Eternatus stay healthy over a match while powering up Final Gambit. Modest nature is chosen over Timid as the latter doesn't let Eternatus outspeed any notable threats bar speed tying Choice Specs Eternatus.

Fighting-types like Pheromosa and Zamazenta appreciates Eternatus’s ability to dismantle defensive cores composed of Dragon- and Fairy-types like Giratina and Tapu Fini, while they can deal with Steel-types like Zamazenta-C for Eternatus. Late-game cleaners like Xerneas and Regigigas can take advantage of Eternatus being able to remove problematic Steel-types via Final Gambit and weaken teams in general. Defensive pivots like Kyogre and RegenVest Zamazenta-C helps Eternatus soak up Ice- and Dragon-type moves while forming a VoltTurn core with it. They can also help check an Imposter transformed as Eternatus.

It is important to note why you want Final Gambit in the first place, as it gets rid of Ice Scales Steels like Zama-C and stuff immediately Trick or and Final Gambit are both passable options (you have to say what these are ran in place of) on Choice Specs sets to cripple or dent a special wall respectively, but Eternatus is usually able to make progress on its own and both moves would reduce its firepower (Gambit doesn't reduce firepower... it just erases Etern from the game lol). I think Trick + Recover / Strength Sap is worth mentioning For Timid Choice Specs sets, an alternative option is to run 164 SpD EVs to guarantee an OHKO on Eviolite Imposter, so a speed tie can be risked if necessary. However, this makes Eternatus possibly take more damage than usual and decreases the average power of Dragon Energy (I don't think Etern ever needs/wants Timid on this set outside of speed creeping other Etern). Sheer Force Life Orb Eternatus is also a powerful option running Sludge Wave, Clanging Scales, Blue Flare and Volt Switch, but it is more easily chipped down and loses the utility of poisoning or burning switchins (i've never seen this set but why is it running clanging scales? seems weird to have only 2 moves boosted by sheer force here). Add the adapt set from above here

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Being resistant to both STABs of Eternatus, when used with Flash Fire or Ice Scales, most Steel-types can comfortably switch into any attacks from Eternatus. Zacian-C is a notable exception that can freely switch into any Eternatus without Blue Flare and offensively threaten it. Steel-types resist both of Eternatus's STAB moves and can check its coverage attacks when using Ice Scales and Flash Fire. Zacian-C is immune to both of Eternatus's STAB moves and can threaten it offensively, but has to watch out for Blue Flare. However, frailer Flash Fire Steel-types like Solgaleo and Ferrothorn still risk getting 2HKOed by Choice Specs Dragon Energy.

**Imposter**: While Imposter cannot directly switch into Eternatus, it can force out Eternatus on a free switch (I don't know what "free switch" means intuitively. You should make this say if Imposter is brought in via opposing pivot moves or something) by threatening to OHKO it in return, especially when equipped with Choice Scarf.

**Protection moves**: Against Choice Specs sets, having a protection move to scout for Eternatus’s choice is greatly useful so that the user can switch into a Fairy-type, a Steel-type or a Dragon-type accordingly. You should mention who good protect users are here. like PH Fini and Tina for example

The moveset on the Specs set is fine, but I think you missed the main point of the set in your discussion. Etern is so good because it outspeeds and OHKOs a lot of guys in a Dragon heavy metagame and can hit non-scales resists really hard. Going with Timid, which isn't good on this set, threw off your discussion in the second paragraph since Modest gets all the mentioned calcs without needing spike support. For Other Options, flesh out the value of Trick and Gambit because they are useful moves.

Implement these comments and take the time to reread it and make sure you are happy with it, then let me know when it is ready and I'll check it again.

While Eternatus can OHKO non-Eviolite Imposter on switch-in, it is forced out by Imposter, especially Choice Scarf variants, if Imposter is brought by an opposing pivot. Eternatus actually ohkoes eviolite imposter. I would just change this to either Eternatus is forced out if Imposter is brought in on a pivot or delete this. I'd choose the latter however, because rarely should someone allow Eternatus to get pivoted on b/c that would mean that you risked it getting chipped by hard switching which shouldn't happen too often. The main scenario in which I would see this would be if Eternatus clicks D-energy on Xern and then opponent is crazy and hard switches in imposter. So, the only imposter set Eternatus really loses out to is scarf, which isn't that common anymore, since any other imp set it threatens to KO on speed tie. Fighting- and Ground-types like Pheromosa, Groudon and trapper Zygarde-C make great teammates as they can threaten Ice Scales Steel-types for Eternatus; additionally, teammates like Ice Scales or Flash Fire Magearna and Zamazenta-C are vital to help check an Imposter transformed as Eternatus.

lph I talked with the BH QC team and they think this is very outdated and needs a complete rewrite. Let me know if you're still interested by this analysis, if not i'll just archive it.

Glad this doesn't get lost in the sea, thanks tuthur! though bh analyses are on hiatus iirc + etern's best set abuses sleep which is being suspected rn, so I'd prefer waiting until that's over and I'm sure the qc team would choose the same.
