Eternatus in Mix and Mega is able to check a large portion of the metagame owing its great typing in Poison/Dragon, good utility movepool and a solid ability in the form of Pressure. With Metronome, Eternatus is able to pressurize common physically defensive walls while also punishing passive Pokemons that rely on the combination of healing and then pivoting to threats that can force it out. Dragon Pulse is preferred over Dynamax Cannon to ensure Eternatus does not run out of PP quickly, thus maximizing its utilization of Metronome. Sludge Bomb threatens Altarianite users like Entei, Dragonite and Regieleki and also allows it to fish for poison damage, making it easier for Eternatus to beat Blissey, Mandibuzz and Ho-oh. Flamethrower Targets Steel-types such as Corviknight, Magearna and Kartana. Recover ensures Eternatus's longevity and together with Pressure, is useful for draining out PP of opposing Pokemon. The given spread allows it to outspeed Adamant Lucarionite Zygarde while ensuring Eternatus is not 2HKOed by notable threats like Entei, Dragonite and Zeraora.

Eternatus fits best on balance teams that appreciate a reliable switch-in to Extreme Speed users. Therefore, Pokemon such as Zeraora, Spectrier and Dragonite partner up best with it. Zeraora , in particular form a powerful core as it is able to beat Banetite Toxapex, one of the best checks to Eternatus in the metagame while Eternatus returns the favour by threatening Zapdos and Mew. This combination however struggles with Rhyperior and Lunala. Since it is weak to Landorus-T and Lucarionite Zygarde, Altarianite Hippowdon and Lunala pair up with Eternatus well as they are a reliable switch-in to them. Slowbro does not stack ice weakness with Eternatus and thus is a popular partner to it but the duo does get threatened by Pheromosa. Finally, Landorus-T, Solgaleo and Regieleki are all appreciated by Eternatus as the former two beat Slowking-Galar, Toxapex and Tyranitarite Rhyperior while the latter forms a very powerful core that generates momentum via pivoting while also threatening to explode on Hippowdon and Lunala.

Offensive Eternatus trades its defensive utility to become a powerful breaker in Mix and Mega which threatens common defensive walls immediately thanks to Metronome. Dragon Pulse gives it a favourable roll to OHKO Lucarionite Zygarde while also hitting Ampharosite Blissey for significant damage. Dynamax Cannon could be used over Dragon Pulse, to provide Eternatus with more burst damage and threaten a plethora of defensive Pokemon but the loss in PP is significant as it might hinder Eternatus late in the game. Sludge Bomb is a powerful STAB and combined with its chances of poison, allows Eternatus to beat Sablenite Blissey, Mandibuzz, Slowbro while also ensuring it OHKOes Altarianite users. Flamethrower helps Eternatus deal with non-Venusarite Steel-types and gives it favourable odds against Gyaradosite Toxapex in a 1v1 Situitation. Recover offers reliable recovery to Eternatus thus prolonging its ability to wallbreak. Maximum SpA investment with Modest nature is preferred and 156 speed ensures Eternatus outpspeeds Adamant Lucarionite Zygarde.

Being able to wallbreak ton of common metagame staples, Eternatus fits very well in Balance and Bulky Offense teams that can utilize the most of its capabilities. It also offers defensive utility by checking Kartana and Regieleki and absorbing T-spikes and thus is a powerful Pokemon to have. Lunala , Hippowdon and Zapdos all are decent partners for it as they are able to check Landorus-T and opposing Hippowdon. Zapdos however, is weak to Zygarde and Tyranitarite Rhyperior. Sablenite Slowbro is able to check both along with the previously mentioned threats and thus is a strong defensive option for Eternatus to pair up with. Eternatus forms a powerful offensive core with Electric Types such as Zeraora and Regieleki as they are able to threaten Toxapex, however stacking weakness with Ground-types is a problem. Lucarionite Zygarde also pairs up with Eternatus very well, as it is able to threaten all of Eternatus's defensive checks. Finally, Pokemon like Spectrier and Lunala appreciate Eternatus taking care of Blissey and thus are decent partners to it.

Other Options
=============
Defensive Set could opt for Toxic or T-Spikes over Dragon Pulse however, this leaves Eternatus passive against Toxapex or Slowking-Galar. A set with Meteor Beam and Power Herb could also be used to OHKO Ho-oh and boost its SpA but is generally considered inferior to the standard offensive set as it still gets walled by Toxapex and Rhyperior while also becoming less threatening after switching out and losing its boost. Lastly, Metronome could be replaced by Life Orb in Offensive sets to deal more damage immediately.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-type Specially Defensive Walls**: Specially Defensive Poison Types such as Toxapex and Slowking-Galar are the most popular checks to Eternatus in Mix and Mega. Toxapex with either Banettite or Gyaradosite can knock Metronome off and thus deter Eternatus's wallbreaking capabilities while also threatening it with passive damage in form of Scald burns. While Toxapex in itself might lose a 1v1 with Eternatus in some cases yet it still makes up for it as it makes it easier for its allies to deal with Eternatus. Cameruptite Slowking-Galar, on the other hand relies on tanking hits from Eternatus and then threatening a 2HKO back. Slowking-Galar can also run Sablenite or Audinite with Calm Mind which can easily set up on Eternatus.

**Tyranitarite Users**: Tyranitarite Users especially Rhyperior and Tyranitar , are another commonly seen checks to Eternatus. With Spd boost from Sandstorm, they are able to take multiple hits from Eternatus while threatening it back with Earthquake. These however, do lack reliable recovery and thus can be inconsistent in the long run.

**Ground-types**: Salamencite Landorus-T is able to outspeed and 2HKO Eternatus and thus , forces it out. Lucarionite Zygarde is also able to threaten defensive sets but gets OHKO'd back if it faces the offensive one.

**Psychic-types**: Solgaleo with its great typing of Steel/Psychic, is one of the best offensive answers to Eternatus as it is easily able to tank 2 Flamethrowers and 2HKO it back with Psychic Fangs. Diancite Tapu Lele is also able to OHKO offensive Eternatus but has an unfavorable roll to do so against the defensive set if Psychic Terrain runs out.

**Ho-oh**: Choice Band Ho-oh is able to shrug off any attacks from Eternatus thanks to its bulk and secures a 2HKO with Earthquake or Brave Bird. No Heavy Duty Boots however means Ho-oh is susceptible to hazards and thus needs Stealth Rock off the Field to actually check Eternatus.
