This is going to be a similar format to the other thread on move legaltiies. If people want, I may include some minor event information, but if HTML experince proves this to look ugly (still have to test it), I'm leaning towards not including major identifiying information such as OT, ID, etc, just because this article is more focused on move legality rather than how to obtain the events. Hopefully, this will get done way faster than the last one!

One big difference I'm currenly considering is listing the events by Pokemon rather than move, since the event moves follow a much less consistent pattern than other old generation moves. I may even get rid of the generation classifcation all together, and put them in the columns, since several Pokemon get event moves VERY often! However, if anyone would prefer it to be labled by moves instead, let me know! I will at least be doing it by moves for generation 2 and 3, since unlike most other generations, these two actually do have events that share a LOT of moves.

Introduction

Throughout competitive Pokemon history, special event Pokemon have been released with exclusive moves, which often have an impact on competitive formats. Since these were often given out for short periods of time, in specfic reigons, or exclusively in specific generations, move legalitiy issues can get confusing. This aticle aims to clear up the confusion, to ease teambuilding for both Smogon formats and Gamefreak's Battle Spot Specials.

Alright, this is ready for Quality Control checking now! Over 2 weeks is much better than over 2 years :P.

I don't need to highlight NEARLY as many people here, since I was able to check most analyses for these Pokemon! So I'll be highlight two kinds of people:

Wifi folks who know event stuff: Blueforce Lego shiny finder

GSC QC people since some of those analyses seem really out of date, and I'm not sure how "right" they are: Earthworm Fear Conflict FriendOfMrGolem120 neomon Lavos BKC

This thread is gonna work a lot like the generation exclusive move legality article. For those of you that don't know what that is, here's the big idea!

This article is trying to cover all move legality stuff with event moves, as long as they are SLIGHTLY competitively relevant.

By slighty, this can get sorta extreme. To use some examples of how far this has gone for this article in particular:

-Delibird is mentioned in the GSC section just because the analysis mentioned it could be used as a UU Spiker, Spikes is an event move, and its illegal with Rapid Spin.

-Hypnosis Misdreavious is mentioned for GSC, specfically so in the Other Notes part, I can mention that its banned with Perish Song.

-Extreme Speed is mentioned on Suicune because some AV Suicunes use that in Battle Spot Specials.

-Moonblast and Play Rough Jirachi are mentioned because I remember some people considered using it in the Doubles Legendary Only battle spot special to hit Yveltal harder on the switch with Xerneas support, but decided not to because its illegal with Follow Me.

So in additon to actually good competitive moves, this article aims to mention one that are even other options material, or are "too good to be true", and are illegal with important moves.

Also, note that some sections are blank on Pokemon. This is because a lot of these Pokemon are going to have charts that show all their event moves, so the blank sections are just to be conistent with the chart!

Also one more thing: Something I'm unsure about is how regional local events work for generations 4 and 5. I know in Gens 6-7, local events are USUALLY redeemable on any game (big exception is Happy Hour JirachI), but I'm not sure how those work with gens 4 and 5, which is important for the other notes section. Anyone know how they work?

Much better timing indeed :P Thanks Tmon, I'll peruse later. To answer this quoted bit tho, I believe gen 4/5 were language locked. I.e. It took a JPN cart to get a JPN event, ENG to get ENG, etc. And since there wasn't a language select built into the carts back in the day, this is essentially synonymous with a region lock. Might have my technicalities swapped, but someone will correct me if so ;) Relevant thread

What about the Gen 1 event moves? This includes things like Surf and Fly Pikachu, Pay Day Rapidash, and Dragon Rage Magikarp. Granted apart from pikachu almost none were competitively relevant.

For GSC you're missing the Petal Dance learners (psyduck, chikorita, meowth maybe others). Also Encore Donphan.

Major reason I didn't include gen 1 event moves was because the big relevant one (Surf Pikachu) is also a Pokemon Stadium tutor move. Granted, the way you get it in both the Japanese and International versions is almost as convoluted as one of those ancient Pokemon cheat codes, so if you think I should include that, let me know!

I added Donphan, Meganium and Psyduck, but according to Bulbapedia, Meowth actually gets it in gen 3, is that relevant there?

Also on a side note, looking up Phanpy made me realize I forgot to mention Cacturne lol

Anyways for shiny finder , here's a change log!

Added for multigen:

Encore Cacturne (needs legal natures, I'll look that up tonight and edit that here, along with Vileplume / Bellossom)
Regional Legalities for Follow Me Blastoise, Follow Me Jirachi, Yawn Pikachu, Extreme Speed Pikachu, V-create Rayquaza

Added for Gen 2:

Petal Dance Meganium and Petal Dance Golduck
Encore Donphan

And I'm back. I can't speak for what's (remotely) competitive, so I can only really fact check here. Finishing off this quoted bit aside,
  • May or may not be worth putting (or even correct lol), but I think the Celebrate Gen 1 starters are Male locked.
  • Heart Stamp Jirachi event also gets Play Rough, so the two are legal together.
  • Think Mewtwo is Timid locked.
  • Assuming we're thinking of the same event, I think the Gen 4 Endeavor Pika (really, Pichu) is Jolly. Also, would it not be possible to import the Endeavor Gen 4 Pichu as such into Gen 7 to get Nasty Plot as a level up move?
  • Nitpick, but you list Vileplume and Bellossom on the same entry, but only include the info for Vileplume (i.e. illegal ability). Keeping with this entry, After You is also a USUM move tutor so I think it could be legal.
  • Which Leech Seed Tangela event are you referring to? I couldn't find that one.
  • Are you sure those Wish events are legit? I know they are uploaded and ripped from an actual mon, but I'm not sure of their original source (if you're not sure, could always just take out the word legit).
  • Not sure if Espeed Zigzagoon (Gen 3) or Linoone (Gen 6) is worth including since it's now a USUM egg move, but I know that event was coveted for a while.
Sorry if some of those are incorrect (I think they're right, but it was a lot to look over lol), but worth double-checking/considering at least. Either way, nice work Tmon. Thanks for the compilation.

Any plan on mentioning Wish Bagon? Not sure how viable is but I'd say it at least qualifies for "remotely." The major illegality is Dragon Dance, and there's Hydro Pump too.

I'd think Teleport should also be mentioned as a notable illegal move for Wish Chansey/Blissey, as much WishPort Clefable was popular in Gen 8.

Speaking of which, given that transfer moves were also removed in Gen 9, it'd also be best to just limit the scope of this to Gen 8 and before, assuming this is still going.
