move 3: Iron Head
move 4: Rapid Spin
item: Leftovers
ability: Mold Breaker / Sand Rush
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Excadrill's ability to compress the roles of a wallbreaker with Swords Dance, a late-game sweeper, and an amazing defensive typing in Ground/Steel paired with Rapid Spin support make it a top-tier threat. Mold Breaker allows Excadrill to break past its would-be checks in Rotom-W and Rotom-H with Earthquake as well as bypass Mimikyu's Disguise and OHKO it with Iron Head. Sand Rush boosts Excadrill's Speed greatly, which lets it be a great late-game cleaner, as faster threats such as Dragapult and Cinderace can no longer revenge kill Excadrill. Rapid Spin can also give Excadrill a Speed boost, which allows Mold Breaker sets to outspeed and OHKO Dragapult and Choice Scarf Rotom-W, while Sand Rush sets are able to outspeed most of the boosted metagame. Rock Slide is an option, as it allows Excadrill to dent two of its best defensive checks in Corviknight and Gyarados, as well as Rotom-H if lacking Mold Breaker. Leftovers provides Excadrill with passive recovery to pivot into Pokemon like Toxtricity and mitigate the chip damage from the entry hazards it attempts to remove with Rapid Spin. Alternatively, Life Orb can be used to increase the power behind its moves; however, it can easily wear itself down using Rapid Spin, so this should only be used on Rock Slide variants. A Jolly nature is preferred in order to outspeed Dragapult and Rotom-W after one Speed boost and outpace a +2 Gyarados under sand.
Partners that appreciate Excadrill's wallbreaking potential like Kommo-o, Hawlucha, and Gyarados make great partners, as it can help weaken walls for them to sweep, while Gyarados in particular also benefits from Excadrill potentially removing Rotom-W for it. Dragapult and Hydreigon make great partners, as they can help pressure defensive walls such as Corviknight and Galarian Corsola, which Excadrill struggles to break past even after a Swords Dance. Rotom-W is a fantastic partner to pair with Excadrill, as it is capable of handling Gyarados, Pelipper, and Corviknight, which Excadrill invites in and cannot threaten without Rock Slide, and it can bring Excadrill in safely via Volt Switch. If using Sand Rush, then Tyranitar and Hippowdon are necessary in order to set up sand. Tyranitar can also threaten Galarian Corsola and Corviknight for Excadrill as well as set up Stealth Rock to weaken Excadrill's checks such as Rotom-W. Checks to Fighting-types like Conkeldurr are mandatory, so Pokemon like Clefable, Togekiss, and Jellicent are greatly appreciated.

Excadrill is a great suicide lead because it is can reliably set up Stealth Rock as well as keep opposing entry hazards off the field with Rapid Spin. Rapid Spin also gives Excadrill a boost in Speed upon use, which allows it to outspeed faster Pokemon like Hydreigon to get significant damage off. Steel Beam allows Excadrill to cut down its own health in order to get a teammate in safely for free and prevent the use of Defog. Rock Tomb is a viable option that prevents Gyarados from using Excadrill as a setup opportunity; however, Excadrill struggles to fit the move onto this set. Mold Breaker is Excadrill's best ability for this set, allowing it to heavily damage the likes of Rotom-W and also set up Stealth Rock without fear of Hatterene bouncing it back with Magic Bounce.
This Excadrill set fits best on hyper offensive teams that appreciate its ability to keep entry hazards both on and off the field. Grimmsnarl makes a great partner, as it can help keep Excadrill's Stealth Rock up with Taunt and further support sweepers with dual screens support, these sweepers being Bisharp, Gyarados, Hawlucha, and Kommo-o. Bisharp is a great partner, as it can deter the use of Defog because it can be given a Defiant boost. Aegislash and Gengar make for great partners, as they can spinblock to prevent Stealth Rock from being removed off the field and they appreciate Excadrill bringing in passive Pokemon like Corviknight and Ferrothorn to start wallbreaking, while the former two can also use these passive Pokemon to set up a Swords Dance and Nasty Plot, respectively.
