[Overview]

• It’s a funcking killer palm tree
• killer SpA, useful movepool for a sweeper
• Good typing kind of, gets nice resists but 7 weaknesses
• slow as dick if not in sun
• was OU in RBY

[SET COMMENTS]

• 2hkos basically everything relevant in the tier with its attacking moves
• Can also sleep its common counters on the switch in to cripple them for the match
• Leaf Storm deals major damage to everything that doesn’t resist it, conveniently Psychic hits Poison-types super-effectives so Grass/Poison-types get smashed.
• HP Ice hits Altaria and other Exeggutor super-effective; Altaria is important because of Natural Cure, so Sleep Powder is less effective vs it.
• Did I mention it 2hkos basically everything?

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

• EVs outspeed minimum speed base 70s, which happens to include almost every wall in the tier, can run either 52 HP / 252 SpA / 204 Spe to outspeed min speed base 80s or max speed to outspeed min speed base 85’s and tie or outspeed other slow pkmn.
• You can run HP Ground for Pure-steel types or the Rock/Steel-types and Skuntank but they’re generally not worth it. You can also run Giga Drain in the last slot to try and recover health but really the point is to smash shit then get the hell out of dodge. --Psyshock does a lot of damage to Altaria and 2HKO's special defensive Lickilicky but Altaria loses to HP Ice and if you Sleep Lickilicky it can't use Heal Bell or Phaze you with Dragon Tail.
• Incredibly easy to revenge kill by Magmortar, the Birds, etc, so good partners are stuff like Regirock and Probopass and Camerupt to deal with those mons! Also enjoys the SR set up from those mons.
• Doesn’t like Spikes or Tspikes at all since the point of Specs Eggy is to switch in, hit shit hard, and switch out; good spinner partners are Cryogonal and Wartortle.
• Doesn't like Absol or Skuntank, powerful Fighting-type mons like Emboar, Sawk, and Throh are cool to deal with them.

[SET COMMENTS]

• Not as much initial power as Specs, but no drawback to using its STAB Grass move and is fast as funck in Sun. There’s also no auto-weather in NU so you don’t have to worry about something ruining your fun.
• Psychic provides great coverage in NU with all the Poison and Fighting-types running around. HP Fire gets pseudo-STAB in the sun and powers through other Grass-types and pure Steel-types (if you can find any).
• If you want Exeggutor to be self-supporting, use Sunny Day and Heat Rock. If you already have Sun support, use Sleep Powder for a fast sleep and Life Orb for more power.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

• Modest vs Timid power vs speed yadda yadda yadda. With Timid you outspeed Timid Scarf Rotom-S in the Sun so it can’t revenge you with Air Slash. You still don’t outspeed Scarf Jynx though.
• You could use Giga Drain if you are a bitch that doesn’t like smashing things into little pieces, in which case don’t use Exeggutor. You could also use Psyshock but there are more Physical walls around than Special, and Cryogonal doesn’t like taking repeated Sun-boosted HP Fires anyway.
• The main Pokemon holding this set back is Altaria, since you are faster than the birds and Magmortar in Sun anyway. Jynx and Cryogonal are good partners, Cryogonal especially because it can spin away nasty Tspikes that would hurt this set.
• This set also appreciates hazards on the field so it can do more damage quicker, Rock-types like Regirock and Probopass can set up SR and Probopass can use a slow Volt-Switch to get Eggy in for free. Also Garbador can set up Toxic Spikes which is nice.

[Other Options]

• Sub + 2 attacks (Giga Drain / Psychic) and Sleep Powder maybe?
• SubSeed but it’s so slow and outclassed by a bunch of other mons really
• Harvest abuse but its pretty gimmicky.
• Trick Room if you want
• it gets Wish but there are other mons that pass bigger wishes.
• Gets Stun Spore for a double powder set but is better off going offensive
• Dual Screens but don’t please
• SD off 95 Base attack if you feel like being a gimmick, it gets Explosion
• Gravity for teh lulzzzzzz

[Checks and Counters]

• Not a hell of a lot can take two attacks from the Specs set, things that can include Altaria (Natural Cure nerfs Sleep Powder), maybe Cryogonal/Lickilicky, Kecleon because of Color Change.
• Mostly you should try to revenge-kill the Specs set with Absol, Skuntank, Magmortar, Braviary, Swellow, Rotom-S, Jynx, etc.
• Sun abuse is harder to revenge kill but Altaria walls it easier because it doesn’t carry HP Ice, Absol also can revenge kill.
• If you’re ballsy you can use something like Metang to try and check it but Exeggutor resists its main attacks. Probopass and Bastiodon take major damage from Leaf Storm but can at least switch into Psychic or HP Ice and do uhhh something?

A couple things:
I don't think SubSeed or Harvest abuse are really viable sets. I will give them pretty good mentions in OO but the point of Exeggutor is to hit shit hard since there aren't very many Special Attackers in NU that are initially more powerful than Specs Exeggutor + Leaf Storm (the only one that can really compare is Specs Magmortar + Overheat).

I've never tried a pure Sub set but in theory it could be good, since you can gain back lost HP with Giga Drain and it kind of fucks over Jynx/the Birds/Magmortar.

Edit: gonna try SubSeed with Harvest, Oglemi showed me it and its... not terrible

Trick Room deserves OO mention at least imo. Sleep Powder + Trick Room + Explosion (even though nerfed) is a great combo.

Totally forgot about Skuntank and HP Ground, will add mentions for that. Garbador gets nailed by Psychic anyway. Also with Psyshock you don't beat Weezing as easily and give Garbador a speed boost which kind of sucks. It's always been disappointing when I've used it. Also I would think you'd rather Sleep Lickilicky (when using Psychic) since usually it's their team's only Heal Bell user so if you sleep it you can disable stall teams and smash shit that way.

Shouldn't Trick Room have an actual set? It functions both as a self-serving bulky sweeper, or it can support its team. It's very similar to the Sunny Day set in this regard, but won't be outsped by Scarfers and obviously has more bulk. Lack of a boosted Hidden Power and less turns are the downsides though

That and it gets better STAB to use (Solarbeam). Losing to Rotom-S is meh but you can't beat everything.
