**Dark-types**: Dark-types such as Guzzlord and Skuntank resist Leaf Storm and Giga Drain and are immune to Psychic, making them the most reliable Exeggutor checks. Absol, Alolan Raticate, and Spiritomb are also decent checks although they can't switch into Exeggutor safely.
**Bug-types and U-turn Users**: Bug-types such as Scyther and Pinsir threaten to KO Exeggutor with Bug Bite and X-Scissor respectively, while U-turn users such as Primeape and Mesprit force Exeggutor out, keeping offensive momentum.
**Ice-types**: Ice-types such as Froslass, Rotom-F, and Aurorus all offensively threaten out Exeggutor with their Ice Beam, Blizzard, and Refrigerate Hyper Voice, respectively. Alolan Sandslash is a particularly good check to Exeggutor as it resists both of its STAB attacks, only fearing Hidden Power Ground and the rare Low Kick.
**Flying-types**: Flying-types such as Articuno, Oricorio-E, and Dodrio all offensively pressure Exeggutor with either STAB Hurricane or Brave Bird, with Dodrio even being able to Pursuit trap Exeggutor as it switches out. Articuno is the only one specially bulky enough to directly and comfortably switch into Exeggutor, however.

- With its above average Special Attack and its decent offensive dual typing, Exeggutor carves itself a small niche as a decent special wallbreaker.
- Exeggutor also packs several resistances to common attacking types such as Electric, Ground, and Water, allowing Exeggutor to switch into Pokemon such as Alolan Raichu, Mudsdale, Gastrodon, and Poliwrath lacking Ice Beam.
- Although small nuances such as access to Trick Room, Sleep Powder, its Grass-typing, and the fact Hidden Power Ground offensively rounds out Exeggutor's dual STAB coverage gives Exeggutor a slight edge, it still very much competes with Pokemon such as Beheeyem and Choice Specs Mesprit.
- Exeggutor also cannot afford to utilize a Timid nature, further separating it from other Choice Specs users such as Jellicent and Aurorus.
- Lastly, Exeggutor is forced out by U-turn users such as Primeape, Knock Off users such as Guzzlord, and Pursuit trappers such as Skuntank among its various other type weaknesses such as Ice and Flying, making Exeggutor that much harder to build around.

Moves
========
- Trick Room reverses which Pokemon attacks first under its duration, allowing slower Pokemon such as Exeggutor outspeed and KO foes.
- Leaf Storm
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power Ground rounds out Exeggutor's coverage and nails certain Pokemon such as Metang, Alolan Sandslash, and Skuntank, who otherwise resist the dual STAB combination of Leaf Storm and Psyshock.
- Sleep Powder can also be used to incapacitate some of its checks such as Guzzlord and Alolan Sandslash, allowing Exeggutor to have the opportunity to freely switch out into a teammate better suited to handle these threats.
========
- A Quiet nature is used with minimum Speed EVs so Exeggutor can outspeed as many foes as possible under Trick Room.
- Grassium Z works well in tandem with Leaf Storm, giving Exeggutor a one-time use nuke that can be used to blow back some of Exeggutor's traditional checks such as Skuntank and Silvally-Dragon without needing to be overly prediction-reliant.
- Harvest, while having no affect in combination with Grassium Z, is more beneficial than Chlorophyll due to the outside chance of sun being present under the duration of Exeggutor’s Trick Room.

Moves
========
- Leaf Storm is Exeggutor's strongest Grass attack, OHKOing Pokemon such as defensive Mesprit after Stealth Rock and Spiritomb.
- Conversely, Giga Drain is a more reliable Grass attack for Exeggutor to lock into against foes Exeggutor 2HKOes and has the added benefit of restoring some of its health.
- Psychic is Exeggutor's strongest Psychic-type STAB option and can be used to hit Poison- and Fighting-types such as Qwilfish, Victreebel, and Gurdurr. Psychic is also Exeggutor's most reliable way of breaking specially defensive walls such as Audino.
- On the other hand, Psyshock can nail Pokemon such as Roselia and Hitmonchan which are more susceptible on the physical end of the spectrum.
- Hidden Power Ground, although reliant on predicting switch-ins correctly, nails Pokemon such as Skuntank and Alolan Sandslash.
========
- Maximum Special Attack EVs in tandem with its held item Choice Specs boosts the power of all of Exeggutor's attacks significantly, allowing it to perform the role of a special wallbreaker.
- Chlorophyll, while situational, doubles Exeggutor's Speed under the duration of the opposing team's sun.

Other Options
=============
- Low Kick deals significant damage to typical Exeggutor switch-ins such as Guzzlord and Alolan Sandslash. However, because this is a physical attack Exeggutor is forced to cut into either its Defense or Special Defense stat utilizing either a Mild or Rash nature. Low Kick also varies in power, putting its reliability as a coverage move into question.
- Exeggutor could be used on a sun hyper offense team, putting Chlorophyll and Exeggutor's high Special Attack to good use. However, Exeggutor is still quite slow even with Chlorophyll activated, outsped by common Choice Scarf users such as Primeape and Dodrio.
- Exeggutor can use the combination of Substitute, Leech Seed, and Harvest, and its several resistances to whittle away at opposing Pokemon while restoring its health. However, Exeggutor is quite slow compared to other SubSeeders such as Jumpluff and Gourgeist-S, and it has far too many crippling weaknesses to pull this off effectively.
- Timid nature on Choice Specs set could allow Exeggutor to outspeed threats such as Choice Specs Aurorus, although the noticeable drop in power usually makes it not worthwhile.
