Rejected Expanded Customization Options for Avatars

Add more detailed customization options for player avatars. Allow users to mix and match clothing, colors, and accessories rather than choosing from preset options.

This would give players more personalization and help them feel more connected to their in-game representation.

Currently, our avatar system uses static files, not dynamically-generated avatars. Even custom avatars given out for contributions to Showdown or for winning a prize are made by an artist and reviewed before uploading. This would be a difficult project to undertake as a result, because all of the individual assets for personalizing an avatar would have to be created (sprites for each of these things you mention would have to be created, or there would need to be a way to procedurally generate assets), and a system for actually applying the personalization by combining different assets would have to be created. In general, this is not the route we are trying to go with avatars.

At time of writing, there are 1,408 avatars available for public use on Pokemon Showdown: https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/trainers/. More are added all the time. I'd recommend giving some of these excellent avatars a try!
