Introduction

Hi guys, GingerNinja here, long time viewer, first time chatter. I am very new to the monotype tier in general, while I have always enjoyed reading the associated Monotype articles and materials, I never played till recently and thought I'd give it a go. I opted to begin playing with my favourite monotype, the newly discovered Fairy type.

While playtesting in the tier, I played around with a variety of Fairy cores and playstyles. In the end I shifted from balance to offence favouring dual trick scarf Gardevoir and Togekiss for breaking down fat cores.

Anyways here is the team, I feel while this core is fairly stock standard for fairy offense, taking origin from the Gardevoir + Mega Diancie + Klefki Core, I opted for some specific niches to make my journey more fun.

This is my first RMT on Smogon.

Gardevoir formed one part of the dual scarf core, hitting poison types super effectively, adding trick and healing wish into the mix.

My second pick was Azumarill, forming a nice core with Gardevoir, allowing me to hit special wall pokemon like Meloetta and Florges hard.

After that I added Klefki. It gave me a good support for Azumarill and made a great switch-in for poison moves, making Azumarill often the teams wincon with screen support.

I realised that with Gardevoir being too vulnerable and Azumarill too slow i needed a good wall, a rock setter and access to Thunderwave since Klefki had spikes, so I chose Clefable.

Diancie was my mega of choice, giving me great coverage vs fire and steel that fairy has problems with. Many times this solos the Fire Match Up

Togekiss was added to finish the dual scarf core, gave me a secondary trick abuser and finally gave me a safe switch in to ground

Team Description

gardevoir.gif

Aethelwyne (Gardevoir) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick / Focus Blast
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Healing Wish

Gardevoir forms my essential scarf duo formation. Her trace ability combined with trick creates many set up opportunities which Azumarill and Klefki appreciate. Unlike her scarf partner, Togekiss, Gardevoir has a dual purpose in being the teams only healer which allows Klefki, Mega Diancie, Togekiss and Azumarill a secondary chance to sweep or to fulfill their job.

Trick Gardevoir is a great lead vs many teams that have hazards or like to spread status in general, most notably in the Normal match up with Chansey and and opposing Klefki in the Fairy and Steel monotypes. After Trick, Gardevoir can immediately use Healing Wish to fully heal any incoming partner or fire off powerful STAB attacks.

It's Psychic/Fairy typing gives me a solid win con vs any poison types that may potentially threaten the team. Once Drapion / Skuntank are removed it can spam Psyshock, getting spike damage and or stealthrocks allows me to deal with Mega Venusaur easier.

Modest nature was taken to increase the damage dealt with Moonblast and Psyshock respectfully.

Focus Blast was later replaced by trick to improve my overall coverage.

azumarill.gif

Maurelle (Azumarill) (F) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 44 HP / 252 Atk / 212 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Belly Drum
- Play Rough
- Knock Off

Azumarill is a must on every fairy team. Being Fairy's most reliable physical attacker and a great set-up sweeper in general. Its amazing defensive typing allows it to take neutral damage from steel attacks and hit back with its Fairy / Water / Dark or Fighting coverage. It provides great priority and is many times my win condition.

Firing off a well timed Belly Drum can lead to an early victory against specific types such as Rock, Ground, Fire, Ghost and vs other types that don't resist Aqua Jet. Play Rough and Aqua Jet are its main STAB moves while Knock Off or Superpower hit things like Ferrothorn that resist the rest of your attacks.

For my Azumarill, I opted for a slightly faster speed in general. I opted for the standard Adamant nature and max attack to maximize its sweep potential. 212 speed EV's allow Azumarill to outspeed invested base 75's, for example Mega Scizor that will want to Bullet Punch you and standard Assault Vest unvested speed Seismitoad , remainder went into HP to give Azumarill some minimal bulk for a better set-up and makes Azumarill's HP even for Sitrus Berry to activate.

klefki.gif

Eolande (Klefki) (F) @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 246 HP / 252 Def / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Spikes
- Foul Play

Klefki, is a necessary evil for fairy monos due to its amazing defensive typing and ability (Prankster). Klefki can safely switch into any poison move as it is immune to them as well as a variety of specific threats so it can do its prime job of supporting the team and ultimately paving the way for an Azumarill sweep.

Priority screens and or spikes, allows it to set up spikes, Reflect or a Light Screen before the opponent attacks making it a great wall and supporting the rest of the team since most fairies typically have average to low defensive stats.

For my Klefki, I opted to ditch Thunderwave for Spikes so my team not only had access to dual hazards but also with 12 speed Evs, It can outspeed uninvested or 8 speed Mega Scizor to get reflect before Bullet Punch lands or getting off a timely Foul Play punishes the Swords Dance set up, hitting Scizor hard before it can Roost or U-Turn safely which ultimately creates situations where its forced out allowing more spikes or screen protection following.

clefable.gif

Louella (Clefable) (F) @ Babiri Berry
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam

Clefable is one of my most important members on my team, most notably against the steel and bug match ups for Scizor and Mega Scizor. While traditionally its chosen as a great bulky set-up sweeper and a switch-in to other set up sweepers.

I chose my Clefable to have another role in mind.
My Clefable has two roles, getting rocks up and to cripple standard switch ins with Thunderwave, great vs predicted leads and switch ins as well as punishing momentum. I opted to have Icebeam over Moonblast to hit Landorus / Landorus T, Garchomp and other standard offensive threats harder. I opted to take Magic Guard over Unaware to bluff the calm mind set.

Babiri Berry ensures I can take a + 4 Swords Dance from Mega Scizor at 100 percent health and heavily damage it with Flamethrower, Babiri also helps against Flash Cannon Heatran paralysing it and giving me a free chance for rocks, Iron Head Gyarados, Scarf Iron Head Kyurem B and more. This allows me to thunderwave or flamethrower the threat or to get rocks up in those hard situations.
Flamethrower was taken over Fire blast for accuracy issues, however after testing, I will try Fire Blast.

Damage Calculations

Vs Offensive Mega Scizor

diancie-mega.gif

Rhoswen (Diancie) @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Earth Power

Diancie was my mega of choice. It provides a great coverage of Fairy+Rock+Ground coverage that hits everything in the metagame for at least neutral damage. Its clutch base 110 speed tier allows it to outspeed a lot of threats and take them out, for example Charizard-Y which is a threat to my team.

Diancie in its mega evolution gains Magic Bounce, which has great synergy with the rest of my team. Moonblast and Diamond Storm are its main STAB moves, Earth Power are for Steel / Poison types and predicted switch ins, Lastly Protect is for Diancie to gain speed upon mega evolution as well as scouting for moves.

Naive nature was taken to maximize its speed while not decreasing any of its offensive stats.

togekiss.gif

Tenanye (Togekiss) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick
- Flamethrower
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere

My last member, Togekiss. Togekiss finished my essential scarf duo formation and like Gardevoir, is great at crippling walls most notably opposing Clefable, Chansey and Stealthrock leads like Hippowdown.

Having dual trick scarf on team gives me an easier time vs Normal mono and more defensive monotypes in particular, crippling up to two walls at once.

Togekiss is also a secondary answer to Mega Venusaur and other bulky grass types as it can flinch them with a super effective Air Slash should Gardevoir be needed for Healing Wish.

Lastly Aura Sphere was added to improve overall coverage as suggested.

Both basic and mega evolution are hard to handle. It has strong priority you cannot avoid. If clefable gets weakened or Klefki cannot get screens in time, it can win the game with Swords Dance. Plays have to be precise.

excadrill.gif

With Sand Rush on ground monotype this thing can be deadly. It can OHKO my whole team besides Azumarill. It cannot be thunder waved for speed control.

landorus.gif

This pokemon can give you big trouble. The combination of Sludge Wave + Earth Power destroys my defensive core. As Landorus, cannot be thunder waved for speed control. Damage it with Diancie to the point where Azumarill can revenge kill or have screens handy.

venusaur-mega.gif

Bulky poison/grass types such as Venusaur hit everything on my team for super effective damage, besides Klefki, that cannot beat Venusaur.

If Togekiss dies or you dont have screens / healing wish handy, chances are you have lost the game at that point

magnezone.gif

Magnezone is very deadly for fairy in general. It can hit all of the team for super effective damage besides Klefki, which does nothing against Magnezone. Having Screens handy when Magnezone is choice locked into Flash Cannon is usually game over for the Steel or Electric mono user as it allows Azumarill a free belly set up.

Hey dude! Pretty cool team, here's a rate:

The first thing I'd like to suggest is your gardevoir set. I'd definitely recommend Focus Blast > Trick. You really cannot have enough steel type coverage for fairy teams. Focus Blast allows you to not be walled by common threats like heatran, ferrothorn etc and allows you to damage it a lot as it had extremely high base power. Trick is not nearly as useful because you already have a knock off mon on your team and another trick mon on your team making trick on gardevoir redundant and a waste of s moveslot. Adding focus blast completed your coverage allowing very little to actually switch in. The next thing regarding garde is the nature. I understand that you may want to hit as hard as possible but garde really needs the +Speed with scarf. Having +speed allows you to do outspeed and kill many huge threats to fairy teams. A huge one is being able to outspeed excadrill in sand after tracing sand rush + choice scarf and ohkoing it. More minor examples would be outspeeding mega lop and scarftran which are still pretty threatening. Thus, using timid over modest will definitely help out.

Next, I would add Thunder Wave > Spikes on Klefki. While stacking hazards does help your sweep, thunder wave is the better move in the end. Prankster t wave allows you to completely cripple any set up mons that have boosted their speed and is just extremely useful for crippli g anything. T-Wave comes in handy so often and is a really annoying move, forcing your opponent to make weird plays because they must decide whether to kill key and get para'd or switch, which you will be able to use to your advantage. T wave is a staple because of its effectiveness in many situations.

Last change is sort of minor but I would definitely go Aura Sphere > Dazzling Gleam as I noticed how you slashed it showing uncertainty. At this point there is no real need for more fairy spam as 2/3 of your team already have strong fairy stab moves, thus, making coverage a better option. Aura sphere allows you to damage steel mons that try to switch in on flamethrower (tran really) and hit it decently hard. It also hits tyranitar a lot harder than d gleam does and helps check bisharp reliably.
Well, that's what I have! Rest of team looks nice so here are the edited sets:
