ORAS UU Fallen Angel of UU (Mega Absol)

I have tried time, and time, and time again to make a team around Mega Absol. One of the very first teams I made since starting to competitively battle, was based around Mega Absol. But everything I tried had been so sub-par. Except for now. This is not only the best team I've built around Mega Absol, but one of the most solid teams I have ever built period. So why post it here? Well I want people's opinions of course! Is the team as solid as i feel, or is there some giant hole that I need to fill? Do let me know!

Lucifer (Absol) (M) @ Absolite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch

Ah Absol. I always thought you were a cool Pokemon with a lot of interesting lore behind it. A teller of disasters, people often thought it brought the misfortune it warned of. It was also one of the first Mega Evolutions to be revealed, and I have to say, it made everything I liked about Absol ten fold. Suddenly, this harbinger of disaster became a Fallen Angel, and while it may be completely over-the-top like some Megas, it is still a force to be reckoned with. This set is an awesome set that I love. After a single Swords Dance, it is practically game over, boosting Absol's already impressive attack to heights unknown. Knock Off is Absol's strongest STAB option, especially since it has become one of the best Dark type moves this Gen. Sucker Punch is the secondary STAB meant to be used against Choice Scarfers and faster Pokemon. The last move slot belongs to Play Rough, is it can finally have it and Knock Off together. While Play Rough does leave Absol susceptible to Steel types, but it also gives it an edge over Dragon, Dark, and Fighting types, the last of which usually severely threatens Absol.

A jolly Nature and Max Attack and Speed EVs makes Absol a fast threat, and since Swords Dance boosts its attack already, Jolly over Adamant is preferred.

Excaiburn (Doublade) (M) @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Toxic
- Sacred Sword
- Protect

Doublade makes an excellent partner to Mega Absol. Immune to its Fighting weakness, and resisting both its Fairy and Bug weaknesses. With Eviolite equipped, and max Ev investments, Doublade becomes a great special wall. With 0 Speed IVs, Gyro Ball becomes a formidable attack able to counter many of the Fairy types that threaten Absol. Combining toxic with Doublade's Steel typing gives Doublade a unique way to counter opposing walls, able to poison walls and not be poisoned in return.

Sacred Sword is another offensive option for Doublade, hitting opposing Steel types, as well as dealing some good neutral damage. The final slot goes to Protect, to help scout out possible attacks, and also get some extra Toxic damage off.

Son Goku (Infernape) @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Vacuum Wave
- Grass Knot

Infernape is another good partner for Absol, as it can easily take out Steel types thanks to its typing. The Nasty Plot set provides me a fast Special Sweeper that can help weaken and take out threats to Absol. Fire Blast is the most powerful STAB at Infernape's disposal, completely wrecking everything at plus 2. Vacuum Wave not only provides Infernape with some Fighting STAB and all important priority. Last but not least is Grass Knot, which allows Infernape hit threats like Swampert, and other Water types. Life Orb provides a great boost to Infernape, allowing a Timid Nature for Infernape to outspeed many threats.

Bulk (Swampert) @ Leftovers
Ability: Damp
EVs: 240 HP / 16 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Scald
- Roar

Swampert is a nice supporter, with access to Stealth Rock, and able to phaze out threats with Roar. Thanks to its typing, it can be a powerful phsycal wall, with really only having to worry about Grass types. With STAB Scald and Earthquake, Swampert can deal its own damage as well. Scald has a nice chance to be burned, while EQ deals with Electric, Steel, and Fire types. The EV spread maxes out Swampert's defensive capabilities, while leaving some room for Swampert to hit moderately hard.

MowUDown (Rotom-Mow) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Trick

Rotom is one of the most versatile Pokemon in the game, with access to 5 very distinct forms, each one giving Rotom access to some unique versatility. I've chosen the basic Choice Scarf set, and since I already have a fire-type with Infernape, Rotom-Mow was the form of choice. Incredibly fast and fairly powerful, Rotom-Mow also makes a good counter to Mega Swampert thanks to its access to Leaf Storm. Volt Switch allows Rotom to scout out situations and switch into an appropriate Pokemon. Thunderbolt provides good alternative STAB for Flying types, while Trick provides some counters against Set-up Sweepers and Walls.

Aerodactyl_by_RtRadke.jpg

Terrorsaur (Aerodactyl) @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- Stone Edge
- Aerial Ace

Aerodactly acts as an offensive Defogger on the team. Thanks to two very powerful STAB options, and break neck speed, Aerodactly can simultaneously threaten Pokemon like Infernape, Mienshow, Scrafy, and Honchrow, while having access to Roost gives it some reliable recovery to keep getting rid of any hazards that may get past Absol's Magic Bounce. Being an offensive Defogger, Life Orb helps Aerodactly eliminate many threats, while the EV spreads helps give it some extra bulk (Which it needs to fill the Defogging role).

I would not use regular Aero with a life orb. It is far less bulky that Mega Aero, and aerial ace being 60 base power is far too weak. Your team is not hugely hazard weak so it could potentially forego defog. Although not a direct replacement, consider Slurpuff. It patches up your huge weakness to hydreigon, and is complimented well by nasty plot ape potentially removing its counters (e.g doublade and mega aggron), and it still threatens out all the pokemon you mentioned bar infernape.

Slurpuff @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 28 HP / 252 Atk / 228 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Belly Drum
- Play Rough
- Drain Punch
- Return/Aromatherapy

In addition by making that change, you might want to consider changing doublade to crobat. It gives you a pokemon with workable bulk whilst maintaining the same resists you sought after with doublade. It also has access to roost and defog and therefore good survivability.

Crobat @ Black Sludge
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Atk / 4 SpD / 212 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Brave Bird
- U-turn/Toxic/Taunt

Hey HeartlessAngel1993, solid looking team. I just would like to recommend a couple of things to help out this team.

First off on Doublade, I'd recommend this set.
Doublade set:

Doublade @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 240 HP / 236 Atk / 32 Def
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Shadow Sneak
- Sacred Sword
- Gyro Ball
- Swords Dance

I personally like using an offensive minded set because of Doublade's many chances to set up on other walls. It's huge attack and defense can be a threat to any team. Also after Doublade SD's, it's attack skyrockets and Shadow Sneak can do a ton to almost any Pokemon in the tier.

Other than that I still think it's a very solid team.

Thank you for both of your suggestion! ^_^

uu iz da shizzle Thank you for the Slurpuff suggestion, I'm trying that out to see how it goes. However I will stay with Doublade, as I don't get the chance to use it very often. Though if it seems to be falling behind, I will make the switch.

xShiba I prefer this version of Doublade, as I already have a physical set-up sweeper in Absol. Although thanks again for the suggestion!

The Problem with that Doublade set is you're sacrificing Doublades sweeping potential and using him more as a status setter. Eviolite SD can at least get off a buff then Shadow Sneak in massive damage.
Slurpuff is also a GREAT UU pokemon in my opinion, I'm hoping we'll see a raise in her usage within the coming month.
