Fallin' for Stallin'- A 5th gen stall wifi team (UPDATED 5/6/11)

Changes will be made in a cute pink =D! Yes I like pink.

Suggestions that will be checked shortly:

HEAVY REVAMP DONE ON MAY 6TH 2011

Hello all. This is my second RMT on smogon servers=D. In 4th gen I usually used stall as my method of play. Especially toxic stall. I noticed this gen that stall has taken some serious hits and some serious boosts. WIth all the offensives threats it is extremely hard to run stall. However, when successful stall can be fustrating to get through. I have used this team in wifi with friends to test it out and have seen some success with it. It takes quite a while to build a team without "legal" hacks. I tried hail stall and it was successful; however very very hard to pull off if Gliscor (or any other fighting resistances) are down. Fighting is a dominant force this gen and needs to be taken into account when doing stall.

Without Further ado I reveal my team =D!
*please note* I noticed a conflict of status. Any suggestions *focus on removing drapion if you must=D*
TEAM AT A GLANCE:

Details:

205.png

Forretress @ custap berry/leftovers
Stealth rock
Toxic Spikes
Rapid Spin
Volt Switch
Ev: 252 hp, 252 spec Def
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Sassy

Use to be ferrthorn but this is just much better. Forretress is a great go to lead for most common leads. Obviously don't lead with him on sun teams as that is just scary site for it. Great draco meteor and outrage absorber(especially with wish support from vappy).

447.png

Spiritomb @ leftovers
Taunt
Pursuit
Shadow ball
Will-o-wisp
Ev: 252 hp, 252 def
Nature: Brave
The ultimate reuniclus counter. It just blocks everything that reuniclus has to offer and then can come in and just force it to switch. Spiritomb is also a great spin blocker. WHEN (keyword) dream world sableye is released I will use that instead of Spiritomb. That is all=p.
195.png

Quagsire @ leftovers
Scald
Earthquake
Toxic/????
Recover
ev:252hp, 252 def
Nature: Impish
ability: unaware
For Quagsire it is there as a staller and its ability. it stops set up sweepers to the max. I am unsure on Toxic and I don't really have much to say here. ADvice wold be helpful and nice
134.gif

Vaporeon @ leftovers
Scald
Wish
Protect
Ice Beam
Ev: 252hp, 252 def
Nature;calm/bold
Ability: water absorb

Vaporeon is my wish passer for drapion and ferrothorn who lack forms of recovery sadly=(. Vaporeon has great synergy with ferrothorn as it will usually switch into the fire type attack. It also has great synergy with Gliscor(he's next) as it resists it's weakness and vice-versa.

477.png

Gliscor @ poison orb
Swords Dance
Protect
Earthquake
Ice Fang
ability: Poison heal
Nature: adamant
Ev: 252hp, 100 atk, 158 def

My fighting counter. conkeldurr and Meinshaos have plagued me since this generation started. I do have to be careful with this moveset as I do have a cleric Blissey. I tend not to not find poison being healed a problem as it will be reset once it switches in and ta-da=D.

242.gif

Blissey @ leftovers
Heal Bell
Flamethrower
Ice Beam
Softboiled
Ev: 252hp, 252def,6spatk
Nature: Bold
Ability: Natural Cure

Good old special walling Blissey. I wanted to use chansey w/ evo stone because the weather phase is starting to die out but still too many t-tars out there-_-.... It is able to pretty much support my team and heal itself and sponge off special attacks. I will write this down in caps and I apologize. DO NOT SUGGEST WISH. THIS IS WI-FI! I DON'T HAVE THE EVENT ONE! That is all~ Sorry for that=D

Well thank you for taking your time to read my second RMT! =D! I appreciate any rates that you guys can come up with and any suggestions would be helpful.

Threat List- to be expanded/explored (finals over here sorry for that, if you notice something point it out =D!!!)

NOTE******i shall be using my sandstorm stall team as an example ****

i gotta be honest i started running a heavy stall team too and had to make some major modifications to it. One thing i know is you got to have weather for two reasons. One with the right type of weather you get some slight damage to opponent every turn (which is invaluable to stall) and two it can somewhat help you control other weather teams. I prefer sandstorm as it is easy to set up and T-tar is my favorite pokemon however if you prefer hail you can go with that. Another thing i noticed this generation in stall is that you can not do heavy stall. You just cant. The only thing you can pull off is semi-stall. Heavy stall is just too easy to beat this generation. with reunicles, sigilyph, taunt, and rapid spin. You also really need and i mean NEED 1 or 2 revenge sweepers. stall is usually ment to weaken opponent not KO them. so you got to have someone who is quick and can get revenge kills and potentially sweep 6-0 if it has too. Since i ran a sandstorm stall team i made my revenge killers abuse that sand. I went with garchomp and excadrill. Another thing that i put on about half my pokes was protect. Protect is actually a valuable move. However, some people prefer substitute over protect either way you need one or the other. Protect/sub is useful for scouting and just for using up another turn. If you can manage to find a high speed poke with lots of hp that can learn both then you have a pretty good staller there. He can just use protect then sub then protect then sub. If you have leftovers or some form of recovery then he can do that for quite a while. In my team i also wanted someone to pass on some boosts to the others and can take some hits while providing those boosts. I picked mew who sits there and uses amnesia and barrier along with roost and baton pass. Once he gets to +6 in def and sdef he usually passes to garchomp unless its an ice move. I give my garchomp leftovers protect and swords dance along with a bulky ev set up so it can take hits. I was in one battle where i manage to pass on those + 6s to garchomp who then swords danced three times and swept from there. Which honestly is no suprise when it has a + 6 in boosts for attack defense and special defense. I also like having a status spreader for those immune to toxic spikes. I used jellicent as it can WoW sweepers and can recover and can be an anti spinner for your team. I personally couldnt find room for a cleric in my stall team but if you can manage to work it in then great. Now one thing i like to do is switch a lot. The reason i like it is because it helps stall around a little more. I liked my stall team having every type either immune or resisted. My current team has 8 immunities and the rest are resisted that way i can switch freely and not worry that much about damage. However, for this strategy to work effectively you have to have and abuse protect for scouting. If you do not know what move your opponent is going to use then you can not make an efficient switch on it. These are some of the things i reccomend.

******Key points**********
*get a revenge killer or two just to seal the match once opponent is weak
*might want a spin blocker in there to prevent other stall teams from stallin
*might want a status spreader for those immune to toxic spikes
*THIS IS THE LEAST IMPORTANT might wanna get a boost spreader to Baton Pass boosts onto your team

Hello Temporal, I've been using bw stall as well so I'll throw you a rate. Stall in this metagame actually functions pretty well with minimal support- you can just spikestack and switch around on resistances and many balanced- offensive teams are going to have some trouble. Where I think you'll see trouble is opposing stall teams. You lack a spinner and a spin blocker of your own, meaning that more "dedicated" stall teams will more likely than not beat you. Even against offensive teams that pack a spinner like Starmie or the ever more popular Tentacruel, you're going to be hard-pressed to find a way to win.

As such you might try a Jellicent over Vaporeon. You miss the ability to wish-pass, but honestly that isn't much- ferrothorn gets plenty recovery from Leftovers and being SS resistant, and Drapion hardly even needs long term recovery. If you play these guys right, you shouldn't need to pass a wish. Jellicent in return gives you a spin blocker and yet another fighting resist, as well as a secondary Reuniclus stop. Try the following set:

Jellicent @ Lefties
232 HP / 252 Def / 24 SpAtk, Bold
Taunt | Shadow Ball | Recover | Will-o-wisp

The special attack EVs allow you to always 2HKO unboosted Reuniclus. The other change I would make would be to Gliscor. I'd prefer that you have a spinner, and as such I'd like to see a Hitmontop there instead. Now, Gliscor may seem like an integral part of your strategy, but honestly you can do without it. You don't need another fighting check, as Jellicent and Syphillis more than cover that; and most of the things Gliscor is meant to stop can be handled by Hitmontop (Tyranitar, Terrakion, Excadrill) without having to worry about everything on an offensive sandstorm team carrying HP ice (which they will). Hitmontop gives you the spinner you lack, Intimidate and ever useful priority. Try the following:

Hitmontop @ Leftovers
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe, Impish
Mach Punch | Hi Jump Kick | Rapid Spin | Sucker Punch

The only other thing I can suggest is Drapion- I'd run Crunch over Pursuit. Pursuit just isn't doing enough damage to a bulky Reuniclus, and once they realize this, they'll just set up on you as normal. Crunch will actually allow you to check them consistently, and will give you more powerful basic STAB in general. Anyways good team and gl, I hope this helps!

Changes are noted in pink at top. I will try these changes out.

In your rates please include which core do you think is more viable in 5th gen heavy stall. I do not like sandstorm*ugly brown* and hail is just really really difficult to pull off. I've tried and I give props to Delko! He is a hail master=D. Thanks

well if you want a good wish passer then i reccomend flareon. It is a decent special wall with some good special attack and has great synergy with your changed team. It makes a F-W-G core that works really well. Also if you give flareon the air balloon then you would have a ground immunity as well. Along with its ability flash fire you get 2 immunities. Plus if you really wanted too you could give it heal bell and replace blissey with an extra revenge killer

No, Flareon's HP isn't high enough to pass Wishes and he is Stealth Rock weak.

Edit : I have used Jellicent and Hitmontop and they work better. Now you don't have a wishpasser, Ferrothorn needs levtovers. It's sad that he can't have Leech Seed + Spikes + SR.

Ferrothorn -- Leech Seed>SR
Blissey -- SR>Ice Beam/ Flamethrower

After you do this Ferrothorn can have Rocky Helmet.

Salamence is a better wishpasser than flareon. In fact, mence is a good wishpasser, and can deal some nice damage with uninvested DMs.

Hi, as Smith says changing your Gliscor to Hitmontop will help with your SD Terrakion and Scrafty weakness, however i think that SD Landorus in sand is still a problem as it can technically OHKO everyone in your team at +2 with EQ and stone edge, and it can just setup in front of Hitmontop (when it comes to intimidate him) as HJK isn't doing much and Sucker Punch fails in the turn that it use SD, maybe running Latias instead Sigilyph will help, and you don't lose your fighting resistance either

Latias @ Leftovers
Timid 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Dragon Pulse
Roost / Wish
Reflect / Protect / Attack
Roar / Psychic / Surf

This Latias acts like a phazer, and a check to fast fighting types like Infernape, Terrakion, etc, she can even check Conkeldurr phazing him (payback will be only base 60) and is ANOTHER reuniclus answer
I put a lot of slashes there because you can use whatever you want, you can run Wish + Protect, or simply roost (or recover), Reflect or just an attack, but using roar will help you alot since you're using spikes and you can weak Tyranitar a lot before killing him

Oh yeah one more thing, heal bell is blocked by Soundproof, this is not really important but seeing that you can't use Wish, Aromatherapy is the "better" option, but if have already breed that Blissey just ignore this

Salamence doesnt learn wish. I also think the above latias set would be a good wish set as well.

Just to clarify on this, Mence recieved Wish in an event at the Pokecenter in NYC if memory serves. 4th Gen, BulkyMence often liked either Wish/ Roost.

As for the team, you might consider taunt on Gliscor to help against those set uppers?

The classic set of:
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Poison Heal
Impish- 252Hp / 56 Atk/ 200 Def OR 248 Hp / 180 Def / 80 Spd
Taunt
Swords Dance
Earthquake
Ice Fang

Also, for Meinshao, be careful. I found that it is more commonplace for LO Mienshao's to be running HP Ice which is a OHKO. So play conservatively.

Another option for Quagsire is Stockpile instead of Toxic. However, it does rely on you getting TS down and being able to handle those that avoid TS completely.

Also, you need to find a place for SR. SR is loads more beneficial, only one turn of set up and allow you to have a ton more control and pressure on your opponent in terms of consistent residual damage on switch in.

Forretress has stealth rock. I noted that is is a bit more important than spikes because i have toxic spikes on the field already. If I can find room for a spiker I might(Might try replacing Quagsire). But yeah for gliscor i think I'll switch back to taunt, but protect allows me to scout on t-tars for ice beam or as you said the rare LO meinshao w/ hp ice.
