VGC Farigiraf [GP 1/1]

[OVERVIEW]

* Farigiraf's excellent bulk combined with Prankster Taunt and the immunity to Fake Out given by Armor Tail ability make Farigiraf an extremely consistent Trick Room setter. This is because its ability prevents Farigiraf from being taunted by the main Taunt user in the format, Tornadus, and the opponent can no longer use Fake Out to stall out Trick Room turns. Additionally, Armor Tail gives Farigiraf a great matchup against Pokemon that rely on priority like Rillaboom and Dragonite.

* The different Ogerpon formes are all great partners for Farigiraf, because the redirection means Trick Room is almost guaranteed to go up, while their Grass typing means that Spore is no longer an issue. Ogerpon-W has a great defensive typing and can easily tank most hits it redirects away from Farigiraf, Ogerpon-H hits Amoonguss and the Steel-types that resist Farigiraf's moves, and Ogerpon-C is particularly helpful for redirection due to its Sturdy ability. Rillaboom and Incineroar are also great partners, as Fake Out + Trick Room is a great combination due to the fact that Fake Out prevents both opponents from attacking Farigiraf before Trick Room goes up.

* Partners that are physically frail or weak to one of the big priority moves like Urshifu-R really enjoy having it as an ally. Flutter Mane is an excellent partner, as it can handily deal with the Dark-types that Farigiraf struggles against, and Ursaluna-B is a strong Trick Room sweeper that enjoys being immune to the Fake Out cycling from Incineroar and Rillaboom.

* Farigiraf can have a difficult time against Pokemon that can threaten to OHKO it both in and out of Terastallization, like Kingambit and Urshifu-S. Another issue is opposing Trick Room Pokemon, especially Torkoal and Amoonguss, the former being able to outspeed Farigiraf inside of Trick Room and OHKO it with Tera Fire-sun-boosted Eruptions, and the latter being able to put any Farigiraf that isn't running Safety Goggles to sleep and just being a general threat when Trick Room is up.

[SET]
Bulky Support (Farigiraf) @ Sitrus Berry / Safety Goggles
Ability: Armor Tail
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 244 HP / 132 Def / 76 SpA / 52 SpD / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic / Psychic Noise
- Dazzling Gleam
- Trick Room
- Helping Hand / Imprison / Protect

[SET COMMENTS]

* While Psychic and Trick Room are self-explanatory, Dazzling Gleam is a fantastic option to hit Dark-types. Psychic Noise is a good option, as it completely restricts the use of Horn Leech from the Ogerpon formes, and Drain Punch from Iron Hands, which Farigiraf's partners might be weak to; Psychic Noise also stops all Pokemon from healing from Rillaboom's Grassy Terrain. Imprison is used to block opposing Trick Room while also stopping opposing Flutter Mane from using Dazzling Gleam. Protect is just a generally consistent option, allowing Farigiraf to stick around to provide the team with priority blocking for longer.

* Sitrus Berry is generally preferred, as the extra recovery allows it to live important attack combos such as Chien-Pao's Icicle Crash into Entei's Sacred Fire; however, Safety Goggles is also a valid option, allowing it to ignore Spore from opposing Amoonguss, a common counter to Trick Room.

* With Sitrus Berry recovery, Farigiraf can always survive an Icicle Crash from Adamant Chien-Pao and a Sword of Ruin-boosted Sacred Fire from Entei. The Special Defense investment allows Farigiraf to live an unboosted Overheat from Timid Chi-Yu. The rest of the EVs were put into offense.

* Fairy is the best Tera type on Farigiraf in this format, allowing it to resist common Dark-type attacks from Urshifu-S and Kingambit. It also allows Farigiraf to deal more substantial chip damage with Tera Fairy Dazzling Gleam, allowing it to OHKO Urshifu-S.

[SET]
Offensive (Farigiraf) @ Throat Spray / Life Orb
Ability: Armor Tail
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 108 HP / 44 Def / 156 SpA / 196 SpD / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Psychic / Psyshock
- Trick Room
- Protect

[SET COMMENTS]

* Hyper Voice activates Throat Spray to inflict a lot of damage and boost subsequent Psychics. Psyshock deals less damage than Psychic overall, but it allows Farigiraf to hit Flutter Mane and Assault Vest Pokemon like Rillaboom harder.

* Throat Spray allows Farigiraf to put really good amounts of pressure unlike other Trick Room setters. Life Orb allows for more immediate damage and more pivoting ability, as you wont lose the damage boost when switching out, but provides less damage overall.

* The HP and Special Defense EVs allow Farigiraf to survive Tera Fairy Moonblast from Choice Specs Flutter Mane, Tera Normal Helping Hand-boosted Hyper Voice from Life Orb Ursaluna-B, as well as non-Tera Life Orb Blood Moon. The heavy amount of Special Attack investment allows Farigiraf to serve its role as an offensive Pokemon very well, especially after a Throat Spray boost. The Defense investment allows Farigiraf to take Surging Strikes from Tera Water Choice Scarf Urshifu-R.

[OVERVIEW]

* Farigiraf's excellent bulk combined with Prankster Taunt and Fake Out-blocking Armor Tail ability, (This is good, but you should mention why blocking both is huge, even just that blocking fake out removes a big counter play to stalling out tr turns) make Farigiraf Regulation F's best trick room setter an extremely consistent trick room setter (Refrain from absolutes like this, metagame is changing a lot and Farigs status will probably change in time too. I mean we are already seeing P2/Ting Lu teams become big, could very well see it being the next best tr setter) That being said, that ability allows it to have Additionally, Armour Tail gives Farigiraf a great matchup into Pokémon that like to abuse rely on priority like Rillaboom, Chien-Pao and Dragonite. (I think you can remove one of these mons, just dragonite/chien pao is fine. I also reworded the "That being said", you dont say that then lead into a positive)

* Ogerpon-W, Ogerpon-H and Ogerpon-C The different Ogerpon formes are all great partners for Farigiraf, as all 3 benefit from not being hit by priority due to their typings (None of them have any weakness to common prio moves and have enough bulk to live most prio hits. I would lead with follow me allowing Fig to set up trick room, the primary reason for running an oger with fig, instead of weakness to prio moves), but also due to the fact that the redirection means Trick Room is almost guaranteed to go up, Cornerstone Ogerpon-C is particularly helpful for this due to it's Sturdy ability guaranteeing that it lives at least 1 hit (This makes it seem like Corner Stone is the best partner for Fig, which really isen't that true. If you highlight Corner Stone, then highlight why the other formes are used, like Heartflame hits Amoonguss and the Steel types that resist Fig for super effective, and Wellspring having a great defensive typing and tera boost and all around solid mon. Also please mention the grass type giving a spore immunity) Rillaboom and Incineroar are also great partners, as it has been proven in the past that Fake Out + Trick Room is a great combination. (Can you explain why they are great partners? Many players are new to VGC and probably wont know why this is the case)

* For partners that benefit from Farigiraf itself, partners that are physically frail or weak to one of the big priority moves really enjoy having it as a ally, for example, Flutter Mane, Urshifu-R, Ursaluna-Bloodmoon (I disagree with this, Flutter nor Ursaluna are vulnerable to priority moves, they're used with Farigiraf because one covers its poor matchup into dark types and the other is a strong Trick Room sweeper which appreciates not being vulnerable to fake out cycling. Urshifu-R is the only mon that fits this description, but even then its paired with fig for other reasons, mainly blocking fake out and speed control. An extra line for each talking about their reasons for being paired for Farig would be better.), and Araquanid. (Araquanid had under 1% usage in Liverpool, I think its fair to remove it. Sorry)

* Farigiraf can have a difficult time against Pokemon that can threaten to OHKO it both in and out of Terastallisation, for example; Kingambit, Gholdengo and Urshifu-S (Urshifu-S is the bigger meta threat. Flutter is a bit ehh too, tera fairy specs cant OHKO Fig with your set) and Flutter Mane. (I mean, this is correct but like of course no pokemon likes being ohkoed. A far better mention would be trick room sweepers like Torkoal and especially Amoonguss, which can make its life really difficult under trick room. Also, not sure on this one yet, but Ting Lu is an up and coming popular counter to BM teams as it threatens Farig with dark type moves and lowers the damage of both mons, I think a line about it is valid.)

[SET COMMENTS]

* While Psychic, Dazzling Gleam, Trick Room and Helping Hand (Are they though? I know they are strong options but to newer players who dont know Farig's common counters are weak to Dgleam and partners use spread move, this could be confusing) are self explanatory, Psychic Noise is a good option as it completely restricts the use of Horn Leech from the Ogerpons, and Drain Punch from Iron Hands (Farig isent particularly weak to both attacks, its partner is, I think that should be mentioned.) , all while stopping Raging Bolt from healing from Leftovers and Grassy Terrain. (I get what your saying, but Raging bolt is far from the only leftovers user and it doesent get Grassy Terrain) Imprison is helpful for when your team has a bad matchup into used to block opposing Trick Room, whilst also providing the use of stopping opposing Flutter Mane from clicking Dazzling Gleam. Protect is just a generally consistent option, allowing for Farigiraf to stick around longer to provide the team with priority blocking for longer. (Not sure its necessary to explain why protect is good?)

* As you'll see below, Sitrus Berry is definitely the best option, that recovery can be game changing, generally preferred, as the extra recovery allows for living important attack combo's such as ___ (Re-wording this, if Sitrus is definitely the best option then why mention Goggles. Also specify why the recovery is game changing, I dont know your set so I left the space for you to include calcs if you want) however, Safety Goggles is also strong, allowing it to ignore Spore from opposing Amoonguss, a common counter to Trick Room.an amazing option, allowing it to set up Trick Room in front of Amoonguss, whilst also allowing it to quite easily deal with it with Psychic while Amoonguss can't do much to stop it. (Mostly trimming here)

* The HP and Defense investment allows you to always take at least 50% from Icicle Crash from Adamant Chien-Pao, allowing you to always live the follow up Sword of Ruin boosted Sacred Fire from Assault Vest Entei after the recovery from Sitrus Berry. With Sitrus berry recovery, Farigiraf can always live an Icicle Crash from Adamant Chien-Pao and Sword of Ruin boosted Sacred Fire from Entei. The added Special Defense investment allows you Farigiraf to always live an unboosted Overheat from Timid Chi-Yu, (Over 75% of Chi Yu in Liverpool had a damage boosting item, and it forces a Tera with dark pulse anyways. A better mention would be living a Moonblast from a Choice Specs Flutter Mane that has Terrastalized into Fairy).(AP) The rest of the EVs were put into offense and enough speed to outspeed 0 speed investment Incineroar and other base 60s (I mean yeah obviously you outspeed 0 investment Incin, farig has a higher speed stat. If you dont invest anything into speed, I think its fine not to mention it) . The HP is also an even number so Sitrus Berry is always activated after a HP halving move like Ruination or Super Fang. (Is this really important? Most Ting Lu dont even run Ruination)

* Fairy is always the correct the best Tera-type on Farigiraf in this format, helping it deal with Throat Chop Chien-Pao and Wicked Blow from Urshifu-S, allowing it to resist common Dark-type attacks from Urshifu-S and Chien-Pao, as well as U-turn from Rillaboom and Choice Scarf Urshifu-R. (U-Turn from both does less than its primary stab, and its never worth it to tera just to resist 70 bp non stab chip.) It also allows for Farigiraf to deal more substantial chip damage with Tera Fairy Dazzling Gleam, (AC) allowing it to OHKO Urshifu-S.

- Hyper Voice
- Psychic / Psyshock (Psyshock had like 5% usage at Liverpool I dont see it coming back with AV Hands not really excisting)
- Trick Room
- Protect

[SET COMMENTS]

* Hyper Voice is going to be your main source of damage, with it's base 90 power doing excellent damage as a spread move after a Throat Spray boost or even when boosted by Life Orb. Hyper Voice is able to utilize the Special Attack boost from Throat Spray to output strong damage, and boost subsequent Psychic's. (I wouldent say Hyper Voice is excellent damage, more so its the boost. Also its assumed its the main attack if your using throat spray) Psychic is nice for strong single-target STAB, hitting things like Amoonguss and Urshifu-R, as well as the many Tera Poisons in the meta. (Its a bit weird to say psychic doesen't need explanation previously but provide explanation now) Psyshock deals less damage overall, but allows for Farigiraf to hit Flutter Mane harder.

* Throat Spray allows for Farigiraf to become a deadly Trick Room sweeper whilst also being able to function outside of Trick Room (I woulden't really say it makes Farig a deadly sweeper, more that it allows it to put out strong pressure unlike other tr setters). Life Orb allows for more immediate damage and more pivoting as you wont lose the damage boost when switching out, however, it'll do less damage overall as Life Orb is x1.3, and Throat Spray is x1.5. (Dex Info)

* The HP and Special Defense EVs allow Farigiraf to survive Choice Specs Tera Fairy Moonblast from Flutter Mane, Tera Normal Helping Hand Hyper Voice from Life Orb Ursaluna-Bloodmoon, as well as non-Tera Life Orb Blood Moon. The heavy amount of Special Attack investment allows for Farigiraf to serve it's role as an offensive Pokemon very well especially after a Throat Spray boost. (More a question, is there a specific reason for this investment? If more = better than why not remove the 44 defense evs, which you said is negligible) The physical defense investment is low so it is recommended to pair this set with an Intimidate Pokemon like Incineroar.

[OVERVIEW]

* Farigiraf's excellent bulk combined with Prankster Taunt and Fake Out-blocking Armor Tail ability make Farigiraf an extremely consistent Trick Room setter. This is because that priority blocking makes it so that it cant be it prevents Farigiraf from being taunted by the main Taunt user in the format, Tornadus, and the opponent can no longer use Fake Out to stall out Trick Room turns, thus removing one of the biggest counterplays to the archetype. Additionally, Armor Tail gives Farigiraf a great matchup into Pokémon that rely on priority like Rillaboom and Dragonite.

* The different Ogerpon formes (forms is when something is purely aesthetic.) are all great partners for Farigiraf, due to the fact that because the redirection means Trick Room is almost guaranteed to go up (Bring up redirecting Spore here.). Ogerpon-W has a great defensive typing and can easily tank most hits it redirects away from Farigiraf, Ogerpon-H hits Amoonguss and the Steel-types that resist Farigiraf's moves, and Ogerpon-C is particularly helpful for redirection due to it's Sturdy ability guaranteeing that it lives at least 1 hit (Dex info.). Rillaboom and Incineroar are also great partners, as it has been proven in the past that Fake Out + Trick Room is a great combination due to the fact that Fake Out likely means 1 less Pokemon is going to have the chance to take Farigiraf down prevents most double ups before Trick Room goes up.

* For partners that benefit from Farigiraf itself, partners that are physically frail or weak to one of the big priority moves really enjoy having it as an ally like Urshifu-R. Flutter Mane is an excellent partner as it can handily deal with the Dark-types (Darks is informal.) that Farigiraf struggles against, and Ursaluna-Bloodmoon is a strong Trick Room sweeper that enjoys being immune to the Fake Out cycling from Incineroar and Rillaboom.

* Farigiraf can have a difficult time against Pokemon that can threaten to OHKO it both in and out of Terastallisation, for example; Kingambit and Urshifu-S. Another issue is opposing Trick Room Pokemon, especially Torkoal and Amoonguss, the former being able to outspeed Farigiraf inside of Trick Room and OHKO with Tera Fire Sun boosted Eruptions without Farigiraf being able to do much in response (Can't respond if you're dead!), and the latter being able to sleep any Farigiraf that isn't running Safety Goggles and just being a general hinderance threat when Trick Room is up. (Sporing partners is hard to call any less than a threat/problem.)

(Mainly trimming it down as there's unnecessary information and it gets wordy. I know you love Farigiraf but this is a lot.)
