Fate of Two Worlds (capped #17)

Hello fellow Smogonites! This is the second RMT I've ever posted (The last was a Dream World OU team in the beginning of Gen 5) and I'm excited to present to you my latest and most successful UU team. I made this team to be aggro-heavy ass kicking with just enough bulk to not die like a little punk to the slightest tap, even with Dual Screens. The team started with a completely disgustingly BA pokemon, Krookodile. Krookodile is the most totally awesome pokemon who can totally shit on teams with his badassery. Next up came among the most annoying pokemon in UU, Dual Screener Xatu. With these two in mind, everything else just kinda fell into place. Not much of a success story there. I did however bring this team to about #17 on the Smogon UU ladder with a CRE of 1309. Btw the theme of this team is from MvC3 Fate of Two Worlds, which I will be making references to, and is the most awesome game ever.

(The Incredible Hulk) Krookodile (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit

"NO ONE BEATS HULK!"

The most badass Pokemon in UU (IMO) This croc will shred your ass to bits if you're not careful (or a damn Hitmontop). I have chewed so many stall teams to bits with crunch alone once I got going. I prefer CB over Choice Scarf because I use him as a wallbreaker of sorts, and Choice Scarf is for little bitch pokemon (unless you're tyranitar then you can wear whatever the **** you want!). In all seriousness though, I prefer the extra power in most scenarios because between Victini and Krook tearing things up, many teams walls fall to the combination, opening them up to one of my next level sweepers, plus I build meter like there's no tomorrow. I prefer +speed because I can get the jump on adamant Scarf Victini after the V-create and pursuit for the kill (the sweet bloody kill) and outspeed such poke's as Nidoking and Moltres (who almost always run +speed). The moves are about as standard as can be for a Choiced Krook but I'll humor said readers with explanations of my strategies. Crunch is my main move, I spam it, and I mean a LOT, often times I'll come in on something that really wants to avoid an EQ (such as nidoking) and crunch firsthand, I have caught many a Zapdos/Rotom/Mismagius with this simple mindplay, the good news is that many times the poke I banked on them switching out would've died even if they stayed in because everyone seems to expect scarf. Earthquake is the raw power move, while lacking the defense drops that plague many people (jubilee knows this pain, sorry mitotic) the extra base power and coverage are beyond necessary. I enjoy blasting that silly hitmontop with my quakes of power once my opponent has accepted my Crunch obsession. I do realize though that locking oneself into a ground attack early is the dumbest thing this side of communism, so I play as carefully as i can with this move. Pursuit is my **** YOU! move, I'm as careful with this as I am with earthquake, I hate pursuing something thinking it's going to switch out, then having it setup in my face on the lower base power attack. Stone Edge is filler tbh, I rarely use it, and typically when I do, it's super easy to wall, and I seem to waste my super pro moxie boost on an unstabbed attack littered with fail. I have successfully used Stone Edge once in ONE match. My favorite Pokemon on the team by far, and pairs excellently with Xatu.

(Dormammu) Victini @ Choice Band
Trait: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- V-create
- Fusion Bolt
- U-turn
- Zen Headbutt

"BURN TO CINDERS! CHAOTIC FLAME!"

Part two of the Physical Bone Crushing Destructors. CB Victini, loves to team up with Krookodile and demolish your life. Everyone knows not to mess with the little Pixie, and the pretty little scarf it usually wears (like a bitch I might add) I prefer the Band to punch holes into pokemon I don't like. The cute exterior is way different when it 2hko's your donphan/nidoqueen with V-Create. I personally love it when my opponents use victini, I always try to bait them into v-creating, then let them know of the nightmare that is chesto-rest kingdra. Anyway back to this poke, Victini is a bit of a mixed bag I must admit, the wrong move can be hugely problematic for me when I lose aggro to something like slower, who I don't like having to switch into due to the haxiness of scald. I prefer to play the role of scout. Now it would seem that Scarf would be better in this instance, given the fact that a CB U-turn does similarly negligible damage to many switching as a scarf would. I do, however, believe that the extra power is preferable when I know my opponents are out of V-create switchins, which becomes a far smaller number due to the massive power of the move. Now to the moveset itself. Again, fairly standard. V-create is the main reason to use victini, It's the reason it's such a threat. CB V-create is among the most obnoxiously powerful attacks in the meta, nearly rivaling the trollish power of darmanitan. It's literally the level 3 hyper of this team, using it to hastily is a huge waste of meter(aggro) but at the right time it'll shit-kick your family. The side effects are very annoying, and must be played around with caution. That's what the rest of the moveset is for pretty much, to support V-create. U-turn allows me to troll that Kingdra thinking it just got set-up opportunity and send out someone who is even more threatening in the long run such as Raikou. Zen Headbutt is a pretty safe move I've found, I don't use it that often, because of the greatness of V-create/U-turn but it has it's place. Fusion Bolt isn't a move I use often, but when I need it, it is irreplaceable (why hello Blastoise) The general strategy is that my opponent isn't stupid, so if I do predict properly and catch his Bulky Water, I almost always switch afterwards to something that can take the inevitable ground/grass switch.

(Ryu) Cobalion @ Life Orb
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- X-Scissor
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

"GINKUUUUUUU!! HADOOOOOKENNN!!!"

Ahh Cobalion, the black sheep of the musketeer trio banished to UU out of mediocrity in comparison to it's brethren. Well that's fine with me, Cobalion prefers to slum it (besides why would he want to be a part of something French…). Cobalion just loves me, he really does, we share something special. He takes the Megahorns from Heracross and Escavilier like a champ, and in return, Krook/Vicky punch slowbro/hitmontop/tangrowth/zapdos/nidoqueen/donphan etc. right in their smug faces. I like the speed, I can live with the power and coverage, and I like the typing, cobalion is a necessity to this team. Cobalion is the first of my trio of sweepers that come in in the destructive wake of my wallbreakers. I chose LO SD for sheer power, I used to use lefties but it lacked some much appreciated power for un-needed recovery. I also use X-scissor instead of stone edge for the stronger hits on slowbro and celebi, who would completely stop momentum otherwise. My strategy for Cobalion is as simple as, set up, or attack? against slower teams, attack straightaway is the poor option, I can better use the power to clean house, offensive teams however tend to have something to revenge me, so I can usually try and guess the switch then blast them with said appropriate move. Out of my trio of sweepers cobalion sweeps the least, but the megahorn switchin combined with the speed is really irreplaceable for this team.

(Magneto) Xatu (M) @ Light Clay
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Roost
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Psychic

"I am the master of magnetism!"

My rage inducing super pimp, This is the baddest bird of all time (In the immortal words of Joan "Xatu is a boss from Mexico.") The synergy it brings to the team, and how well it really partners with Krookodile is beyond me. Pretty much every defensive Krook switchin is handled by my super bird, think hitmontop, donphan, nidoqueen, tangrowth etc. all think they're too cool for school but find themselves screen bait, or even better, double switch bait. I also pair Xatu very well with my lead metagame, starting with victini, then u-turn scouting to xatu against defensive leads. the dual screens strategy is nothing new, but it brings the bulk on this team to incredible levels, especially considering the sets each one posesses, it takes every strategy employed, and super charges it. Krook gets to actually take hits and spam crunches until moxie makes him unwallable. Victini doesn't mind the defense drops as much and can moor freely spam v-create. Cobalion can take earthquakes like a man. Kingdra can set up on almost anything. Raikou will make your special attackers cry. i like roost because there are matches when the extra healing matters enough to get a second round of screens, I have toyed with the idea of wish and thunder wave, I'm open to suggestion here. Psychic is actually a solid move here, it allows it to threaten pokemon like nidoking and the physical walls it switches in on. The Ev's serve a not so specific purpose, I use max HP for ability to take hits, but I prefer the speed to defense because I'd prefer to outpace things to get a screen in their face then better wall physical attackers. I aimed for base 85's because I love psyching nidoking (that prick, so many problems in the past). The rest are dumped into defense for well defense.

(Zero) Kingdra (M) @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Rest
- Waterfall
- Outrage

"This'll be over in a nanosecond.."

The above quote really rings true with this badass, anybody on the other end knows you need an immediate answer to kingdra or it'll cleave your team into a crumbling shadow of it's former self. Needless to say I love Chesto-Rest Kingdra, the sexiest pokemon you know, being comparably douchey to Volcarona in OU. If I have screens up, and you give me a setup opportunity, I will show you a nightmare you won't believe, it's not uncommon to get three dances and go all outrage crazy on you. The great thing about kingdra is that it doesn't need screens to get a dance off. and one dance is usually plenty for teams lacking tangrowth/celebi. As part two of this teams super sweeping core, there are many asses for kingdra to kick. My most effective method of set-up is my all time favorite sucker, victini. I sit there at my computer practically begging that little rat to use v-create. As stated this is my best answer to the craze that is Scarf Victini, people love to come in after Cobalion has gotten a fresh kill and revenge me, leaving them with yet a second set-up in there face (even better is when they get cute and try another attack expecting the kingdra switch while I leave cobalion in then get nuked by X-scissor). I've considered other sets here, Sub DD being the number one contender. My trouble with Sub DD is that I'd have to sacrifice a lot of power for bulk for the subs, and I'd still need dual screens up to keep them from breaking against many things. Unlike Raikou who can pretty much make subs that are unbreakable by special attacks with Calm Mind. Anyway I wanted to have some sort of defensive measure for kingdra just incase I make a mistake, and I've never actually needed to rest more than once in a match anyway, so this has worked out fine. I've also used yawn+DD and lum berry (so trolly). That worked out great when it did but too often seemed situational. The Ev's here are about as plain as I can make them, I prefer adamant to jolly because the attack stat isn't THAT high even after the DD. I run max speed because I like to get the jump on max 130's. Simple enough here, but it gets results. It synergises well with the team because the stab water attacks allow me to threaten bulky grounds that in turn threaten half my friggin team by typing alone.

(X-23) Raikou @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]

"I'm the second best at what I do"

I'll admit the quote doesn't entirely fit there, Raikou IS the best sub-calm minder in the tier (that's right mismagius, SUCK IT!). I just happen to like X-23 more than Wolverine. Comic book blasphemies aside, I love Raikou, it has like 5 counters in this tier (Registeel, Quagsire, Gastrodon, Chansey, Steelix I believe?), all of which can be handled by the rest of the team, except perhaps quagsire, he's a dick. The set is as simple as I can make it, I like max speed to tie with azelf, and max special attack in the event I need him to get going without time to boost. Dual screens come in handy here, replacing and surpassing the bulk I didn't give him. Reflect doesn't really protect his sub from anything except weaker priority and U-turns, but light screen makes his subs ridiculously difficult to break for almost any special attacker, this gives raikou a huge edge in this tier, with shitbags like roserade and suicune running around having no self respect whatsoever. Anyway, I've found out in my time playing just how many teams are Sub-CM Raikou weak, I'd like to be condescending here and tell people to shape up, but in all fairness Raikou is pretty OP. As the only special attacker on the team that can actually sweep, I treat him with as much care as possible, losing him too early is a very costly mistake. Hence my reliance on the Substitute. I'd at first used calm mind+3 attacks raikou because of aura sphere shenanigans but the added recoil and lack of set-ups made me change it. Nothing but love Raikou!

Amyway this is the team, it's been a blast to play, but I think I'll retire it, if anyone wants to copy it I would be more than flattered. Rate Away!!!

P.S. special thanks to Jubilee for being an awesome opponent during my trials.

What does this team have against Gastrodon or Quagsire?
Also your Cobalion set is WALLED by Zapdos, I suggest Stone Edge over X-Scissor (But than I guess its walled by Celebi) :|
Other than those two things its a pretty solid team. Very noice.

Thanks a lot Tiffanyy! I usually have to get lucky against them to win, gastrodon can get smashed by the powerful physical attacks, especially boosted ones, but quagsire is ridiculously hard to defeat, I have to get him with my CB users to have any hope of winning. I have gone between SE and X-Scissor with Coba, but x-scissor beats slowbro/celebi into dust, who're much harder to defeat than zapdos due to regenerator/natural cure, but SE would allow me to beat more than just zapdos, defensive moltres for example, this is a toss-up

good shit, casey90, it was an enjoyable read!

I'd honestly remove Iron Head for Stone Edge for superior coverage. It's a shame that Cobalion gets walled by something slower when it has the means to overwhelm it. Does Iron Head ever come in handy? (edit - oh wait, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, and Heracross x_x)

Quagsire, although troublesome, seems to be an even rarer sight in UU than OU, so I guess you don't need to really fuss over it. Victini, Cobalion, and especially Krookadile all threaten to 3HKO Quagsire with their primary STAB move, so if you can Magic Bounce some hazards on the opponent's side, Quagsire would be on the constant run. Krookadile's EQ can even 2HKO (53% of the time) the most physically defensive Quagsire with SR down (meaning Quagsire with 94% health) which is clutch.

However, Quagsire is a legitimate threat to Raikou's sweep, so you may want to consider adding Grass Knot on Victini over Zen Headbutt - even with Jolly it would put Quagsire out of commission fast. I don't know how well Victini works as a Quagsire lure, but I'm pretty sure if the opponent is expecting a ScarfVictini, they may bring this bugger out. Grass Knot can also come in handy against a more common counter, Rhyperior, which is nice (does 83% min against 160 HP Rhyperior / 56% chance to OHKO the same Rhyperior if you run Naive / Hasty).

Congrats on your success with this team!

Thank you very much for the rate Pocket, I think I might try that Victini suggestion, and once the jig is up, I have a wonderful double switch oppurtunity to something like Krook. Back to the SE argument on Cobalion, I'd also lose my best option against ghosts (especially the ever annoying Golurk) and gligar, who can laugh against stone edges failure accuracy....Gahhh! why does this have to be so annoying???

Anyway thank you very much for the rate Pocket!

You have good points. Well, Zapdos and Moltres are set up bait for Raikou and Kingdra, I think, so it may not be so bad.

no problem, casey :]

Looks like an awesome team casey (and you peaked higher than me so it obviously is!) but I am wondering, how do you deal with Stoutland once Cobalion's gone? Nothing else can take a CB Retaliate right? He's really your best answer to both halves of Stoutlurk (Goutland ha), and once Golurk has a Sub up, doesn't look like you have many switch in options. Thanks for the RMT, you've convinced me to try some pokes I never normally use.

Really playing against stoutlurk involves me outplaying the opponent, I either need screens to fight stoutland, or I need to play smart with cobalion, who a lot of sand teams happen to have serious trouble with, if I lose cobalion, and don't have reflect and they still have stoutland, gg basically

Since you asked you shall receive ♪

Horrible name choices notwithstanding (X-23=Raikou, Dormammu=Victini? Really?!?) This is a pretty solid team. I'd suggest running a Quagsire because this team loathes dealing with Electric types (absolutely nothing can beat Raikou once Krook is down, and even its alive it needs to watch out for predicted HP ices, Specs Zapdos / Jolteon have no problem spamming Volt Switch etc)

I recommend running Quagsire so that you can hard counter those electric types (what out for HP grass heh) I'd run a physically defensive set so that you can also check Golurk who also gives your team trouble if it manages to get in a sub. On Cobalion i'd run Stone Edge over X-scissor so that you can smash your way through Zapdos. Stone Edge is also for Moltres (who btw annihilates this team, you have zero safe switch ins)Celebi is already checked by Victini / Krook most of the time so losing X-scissor isn't too detrimental. I'd hate to toss out Iron Head because its a reliably secondary STAB move and its useful for dealing with ghost types, psychic types and in situations where you don't want to drop your defenses. I really want to suggest something to deal with Moltres, but you're better off just checking it the old fashion way. (IE revenge killing it)

Hope I helped.
