Hey, I made a new team using the concept of FDS Cores that I learned a couple hours ago to try to help myself learn. I made this team, played about 30 games, and made it to peak 1300. I was hoping if there was some ways you could help me improve this team. I'm perfectly okay with overhauls, but I would like to keep Garchomp, Clefable, and Bisharp. Everything else is anything goes when it comes to changes.
THE TEAM
Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Dragon Tail
First off, we have Garchomp, an overall balanced pokemon, who can adapt to any meta. I started off with Garchomp, because I wanted to implement the dragon first, since I believed them to be the focus of the FDS core. I decided to make Garchomp a tank to serve as a reliable backbone to fall back on, with skills such as Toxic, and Rock Helmet.
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SpD
Calm Nature
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Wish
- Knock Off
Going into my next pokemon, I chose Clefable, as it's a classic fairy pokemon. Clefable is one of the easier pokemon for me to learn the strengths of, since the ideas behind Clefable are simple. I went with a supporter type of Clefable, as I was imagining a lot of chip damage occuring, which resulted in the Wish. I did knock off for utility, and soft-boiled for recovery.
Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
Finally, the last of my FDS core, Bisharp. I chose Bisharp with the mindset that he was going to be the main attacker of the team, resulting in black glasses for a more powerful knock off, and sucker punch. Iron Head is for another STAB in case the dark type moves are ineffective, and it handles the fairy types well.
Tornadus-Therian @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Hurricane
- Focus Blast
- Heat Wave
Now onto the support pokemon, I chose Tornadus-T as my first pokemon. I chose it because I needed a special attacker since Bisharp was going to be checked by Physical Walls, in which a special attacker will pay off. Heat Wave and Focus Blast are for type coverage, with Hurricane being Tornadus's main STAB move. I have Nasty Plot in case I can set up freely on hazard setters such as Ferrothorn or Skarmory.
Pelipper @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 36 Def / 224 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- U-turn
- Roost
- Defog
For my second to last pokemon, I did Pelipper as a way to support the last pokemon I came up with, and Tornadus. I don't like taking my chances, thus I added in Pelipper for the 100% accuracy on Hurricane. Pelipper is also the Defogger of the team, with a pivot out, allowing me to bring in the three threats in my team, which are Tornadus, Bisharp, and Barraskewda.
Barraskewda @ Choice Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Liquidation
- Close Combat
- Flip Turn
- Aqua Jet
Lastly, I put Barraskewda as my final pokemon. I can think of Barraskewda as my cleaner, and speed control assuming Rain is active. Barraskew packs a mean punch under Rain, allowing it to become another win condition if my FDS core falls apart. Close combat is the move coverage if I get checked by a pokemon resistant to my water type moves.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Honestly, even I made this team to try to learn the essentials of FDS core, I don't think I succeeded that well. Looking at my team, I can pretty much say, that I have 2 3-Pokemon Cores. The first one being the FDS core and the other team, my last three pokemon. After playing 30 games, I basically could say, that I gave myself a failsafe without putting in synergy in the team. I have effectively gave myself to playstyles to try to learn, and I don't know what I can do to improve this team. So, the help and reviews would be much appreciated.
