[SET COMMENTS]
Ferrothorn is a great defensive pivot for Steel teams because of its excellent defensive typing, which packs a valuable resistance to Water- and Electric-type attacks, good bulk, and ability to provide entry hazards for its team. Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's main form of recovery and inflicts passive damage on opposing threats such as Toxapex. With Protect, Ferrothorn gets an extra turn of Leech Seed and Leftovers recovery and the ability to scout Choice item users like Diggersby, Mamoswine, and Blacephalon. Power Whip hits Ground- and Water-types; it OHKOes Mega Swampert, Seismitoad, and Gastrodon, and heavily damages Urshifu-R, Excadrill, and Keldeo. It also makes Ferrothorn less passive in general, as it can hit frail offensive threats like Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele hard. Spikes provides a great way to capitalize on other defensive Pokemon that like to switch into Ferrothorn, such as Heatran. The EV spread gives Ferrothorn enough Special Defense to withstand a Focus Blast from Landorus most of the time, and enough Defense to increase its overall effectiveness against physical threats like Choice Band Excadrill and Zeraora.

Every Pokemon on a Steel teams benefits from Ferrothorn's ability to pivot into most Water- and Electric-types and set up Spikes to wear down the opposing team. Flying-types like Celesteela, Skarmory, and Corviknight switch into Fighting-types like Mega Gallade for Ferrothorn. In return, they gain from Ferrothorn checking threats such as Tapu Koko and Kingdra. Heatran is also one of the best partners for Ferrothorn, as it pivots into Fire-type attacks that usually greatly threaten Ferrothorn and beats opposing Steel-types that wall Ferrothorn like Skarmory. Ferrothorn then switches into Water-type attacks in Heatran’s stead. Aegislash also helps with Ferrothorn's weaknesses, as it is immune to Fighting-type attacks, and prevents Rapid Spin from removing Ferrothorn's Spikes. Due to its typing, bulk, and ability to set up, Mega Scizor checks certain Fighting-types such as Mega Lopunny. In return, Mega Scizor excels with Spikes support from Ferrothorn, as it becomes that much easier to sweep with Bullet Punch later in the game. Z-Happy Hour Jirachi and Bisharp are other similar late-game sweepers that capitalize off of Ferrothorn's Spikes support and chip damage. Jirachi's Psychic typing makes it a good answer to troublesome Fighting-types like Keldeo and Kommo-o, while Bisharp takes on Psychic- and Ghost-type foes such as Latias, Aegislash, and Latios. Magnezone traps and removes opposing Steel-types like Celesteela, which threatens Ferrothorn with Flamethrower, and opposing Ferrothorn, which may set up its own entry hazards. Scarf Excadrill revenge kills Fire-types like Blacephalon, provides a secondary check to Electric-types, and pairs well with Ferrothorn's resistance to Water-types and Spikes support for cleaning up late-game.

Ferrothorn can run Stealth Rock instead of Spikes if no other Pokemon on the team has it or it is paired with Skarmory, which can set up its own Spikes. However, it is outclassed as a Stealth Rock setter by Heatran. Knock Off, Toxic, and Thunder Wave have a lot of utility and disadvantage many of Ferrothorn's switch-ins. Knock Off removes valuable items such as Eviolite from Porygon2; Toxic cripples certain bulky switch-ins such as Torkoal, Kyurem, and Landorus-Therian; Thunder Wave cripples fast threats such as Cinderace and Volcarona. It should be noted that running one of these moves forces Ferrothorn to forgo one of its other valuable move slots.

Checks and Counters
===================

Steel
--------
**Fire-types and Coverage**: Because of Ferrothorn's 4x weakness to Fire, it gets OHKOed by most STAB Fire-type attacks. Even Pokemon with common Fire-type coverage moves such as Nidoking or Clefable can OHKO or 2HKO Ferrothorn.

**Fighting-types and Coverage**: Although Ferrothorn is not as weak to Fighting-types as it is to Fire-types, many Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Galarian Zapdos threaten to OHKO it. Ferrothorn can, however, use Protect to scout which of these Pokemon are using Choice sets. Breloom is particularly threatening, as it is not vulnerable to any attack from Ferrothorn and can even set up Swords Dance in front of it. Ferrothorn also must be wary of Fighting-type coverage moves such as Focus Blast from Tapu Lele.

**Stallbreakers**: As Ferrothorn is a very passive Pokemon, certain stallbreakers such as Gliscor easily take advantage of it, although frail stallbreakers such as Urshifu-R will not want to switch in directly and risk a Leech Seed or Power Whip.

**Magnet Pull**: Magnezone and the less common Alolan Golem can trap Ferrothorn and get rid of it with Hidden Power Fire or Fire Punch, respectively, so they must be carefully played around, though Alolan Golem should be wary of Power Whip.

**Mega Sableye**: Mega Sableye bounces back Ferrothorn's Spikes and Leech Seed and tanks Power Whip, especially after Ferrothorn is burned by a potential foe like Galarian Corsola.

**Wallbreakers**: Certain wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Pelipper, Galarian Moltres, and Mega Garchomp power through Ferrothorn even with Leech Seed recovery. Galarian Moltres even sets up on Ferrothorn freely, although it does have to be cautious of being worn down by Leech Seed or crippled by Toxic or Thunder Wave.

Ferrothorn is a great defensive pivot for Steel teams because of its excellent defensive typing, which packs a valuable resistance to Water- and Electric-type attacks, bulk, and ability to provide hazards for the team. Leech Seed is Ferrothorn's main form of recovery and passive damage on opposing Pokemon. With Protect, Ferrothorn gets an extra turn of Leech Seed and Leftovers recovery and the ability to scout Choice users like Diggersby and Blacephalon. (more relevant examples than Mamoswine, also removed the HJK part because M-Lop doesn't even use it anymore, and Cinderace just Pyro Balls anyways). Power Whip is Ferrothorn's only attacking move, hitting Ground and Water-types for great damage; it OHKOes Mega Swampert, Seismitoad, and Gastrodon, while still hitting others such as Urshifu-R very hard. (Mention Power Whip makes Ferrothorn not as passive, allowing it to deal sizable damage to frailer Pokemon that doesn't resist it like Tapu Lele and Tapu Koko) Finally, Spikes provides hazard support for the team and is a great way to capitalize on other defensive Pokemon that like to switch into Ferrothorn, such as Toxapex. The EV spread gives Ferrothorn enough Special Defense to live a Focus Blast from Landorus most of the time, with the rest going into Defense to increase its overall effectiveness against physical threats like Choice Band Excadrill and Zeraora.

Every Pokemon on Steel teams enjoys Ferrothorn's ability to pivot into most attackers and set up Spikes to wear down the opposing team. Flying-types like Celesteela, Skarmory, and Corviknight (mention the said Flying-types are able to switch into Fighting-types for Ferrothorn like Terrakion and Mega Gallade) particularly enjoy Ferrothorn being able to check threatening Electric-types such as Tapu Koko. (removed the defensive cores part since you're talking about what Ferrothorn does to other 'mons and vice-versa, not focusing on other teammates) Heatran is also one of the best partners for Ferrothorn, as it can pivot into Fire attacks that usually greatly threaten Ferrothorn and beat opposing Steel-types, like Skarmory, that wall Ferrothorn due to its coverage. (add that, in return, Ferrothorn is able to switch into Water-type attacks for Heatran and check Water-types) Aegislash is another partner that helps with Ferrothorn's weaknesses, as it is immune to Fighting-type attacks, and prevent Rapid Spin from removing Ferrothorn's Spikes. Due to its typing, bulk, and ability to setup, Mega Scizor can also help check certain Fighting and Ground-types (such as?), although it is threatened by similar Pokemon as Ferrothorn because of the shared Fire weakness. In return, Mega Scizor appreciates Spikes support from Ferrothorn as it makes it much easier to sweep with Bullet Punch later in the game. Z-Happy Hour Jirachi and Bisharp are other similar late-game sweepers that appreciate Ferrothorn's Spikes support and chip damage. Magnezone makes for a decent partner for Ferrothorn as well, since it can remove opposing Steel-types like Celesteela, which can threaten Ferrothorn with Flamethrower, and opposing Ferrothorn, which can try to set up its own hazards.

- Add Excadrill as a partner that's able to revenge kill the Fire-types that threaten Ferrothorn; in return, mention it appreciates Ferrothorn's Water resist and its Spikes support to clean late-game.

Breloom is particularly threatening as it does not fear any attack from Ferrothorn and can even set up Swords Dance. Ferrothorn also must be wary of Fighting-type coverage moves such as Focus Blast from Tapu Lele.

**Stallbreakers**: As Ferrothorn is a very passive Pokemon, certain stallbreakers (removed Mega Sableye as it's not a stallbreaker) such as Gliscor and Spectrier can easily take advantage of it, although Spectrier and similarly frail stallbreakers such as Urshifu-R will not want to switch in directly and risk a Leech Seed or Power Whip, at least.

**Magnet Pull**: Magnezone and the rarer Alolan Golem can trap Ferrothorn and get rid of it with either HP Fire or Fire Punch, respectively, so they must be played around carefully. (mention Alolan Golem needs to be wary of Power Whip)

- Add "Mega Sableye" as it's own bullet (able to easily shrug a pwhip, can bounce back everything else)
- Add "Wallbreakers" as a bullet as well (Galarian Moltres, Specs Pelipper, Mega Garchomp... that are able to overpower through Ferrothorn)
