Film Discussion

Mack the Knife

Goodbye Smogon! I may return, I may not!

Hello everybody, inspired partly by Jellicents orange island movie thread. Each week we can watch the film of choice at any given time. Then at the end of the week we will discuss what we thought of the film and choose a new film for the next week.
Rules
PG-13 is the limit, sorry, but I want as many people as possible to take part in this (also I can't watch R)
Preferably easy to find, either on Netflix, Hulu (many don't have hulu plus though), or youtube.
Can be on DVD if enough want it.

So here are 3 films most people like that are fairly easy to find. Please vote by posting the film's title in bold.

Raising Arizona(Netflix)
Primer(Hulu free and Netflix)
Days of Heaven (Netflix)

My vote goes to Days of Heaven since I've never seen it before, and heard only good about it. If you don't like this idea or you want some changes don't be afraid to post constructive criticism.

i'm down, ive had days of heaven in my queue forever and tend to like /most/ Malick movies

With summer starting I might be able to do this.

Days of Heaven is a good place to start. Out of the three Malicks I've seen it's actually my least favourite, but it's still a 7.5-8/10. I think it's essential viewing, though.

edit: the fuck, I wasted 500th post on this?

OK votes are in. In dead last is Primer, which is surprising since it was the only free option. In 2nd place is the quirky gem of a film Raising Arizona. In first place with 3 votes is Days of Heaven. OK now, you have till Wednesday to see Days of Heaven. On Wednesday post what you thought of the film and we will start a discussion on it. Remember if you want any changes made just post your recommendations. Also, be sure to contact me via PM or VM for recommendations for our next film. Thanks for voting!

Woops, sorry for being late. So here's my opinion: I found it to be an extremely beautiful movie. The cinematography is gorgeous. Now, how is the plot? It's very good and very sad. It's a plot where you don't know who to root for. The direction is sensitive and calm. Each scene feels like a moving portrait.
5/5

It's been a few months since I saw it...

I enjoy the cinematography in Days of Heaven - how could you not? But I think a lot of people underrate the music which is fan-fucking-tastic and really complements the whole movie. While I do like the plot and acting and all that, I can't help but feel the voiceover sounds...well, awkward, and that's coming from someone who loves Malick. I still really enjoy Days of Heaven, but no more than a 7.5 and I can easily see why people love it.

Just give me The Tree of Life any day.

OK, I won't be able to do this now since I'm in a foreign country. Porii Sames you can take over for a few weeks until my return.
