FINNA TURN UP! (Peaked #1)

MCBarrett

i love it when you call me big hoppa
Hello everyone, MCBarrett here with my first NU RMT ever! The team I have here for you today was built in a very short period of time. My friends and I were having a Pokemon Night and my bro Str8 N8 aka "I'm finna TURN UP!" wanted to make an NU team with me. I never played NU all too seriously and knew very little about the tier but he kept insisting that I help him so we went through the NU Usage Stats for this month and came up with a fast paced team consisting of a ton of Offensive Threats and a Mandibuzz to help act as a cushion for when the rest of our team was in trouble. When we started laddering we consulted our friend Tyrola11 aka @DefenseCurler ,who plays NU more often than we do, on some common sets that were run since N8 and I were not very familiar with NU. Needless to say the team was extremely successful, topping the ladder by the end of the night with a 2401 rating with only one loss that came at the cost of some extreme ParaHax. Anyways enough about us, lets get into the team!
Here is a Screenshot of the Peak (sorry for the size in advance)

Golem @ Custap Berry
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Blast
- Earthquake
- Explosion

Golem is our designated lead unless the opposing lead has Fake Out (or Mold Breaker, we forgot about this one battle and lost Golem to a Fraxure first turn). But anyway, he does an amazing job of getting up rocks quickly and netting some KO's in the process. Towards the end of our ladder run we started saving Golem for later a little bit more in order to make Electric Types think twice about spamming their STAB moves and to get a better chance at a successful Explosion later in the game.

Kangaskhan (F) @ Silk Scarf
Trait: Scrappy
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Double-Edge
- Sucker Punch
- Earthquake

Kangaskhan is truly an amazing Pokemon. The dual priority that it gets in Fake Out and Sucker Punch added with the Scrappy Ability fits so well on to this team since we do not have a Scarfer on this team priority is really important. Silk Scarf is for maximum damage on our STAB without recoil damage and Earthquake rounds out the set for extra coverage.

images

Skuntank @ Black Sludge
Trait: Aftermath
EVs: 252 Atk / 52 Spd / 204 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Poison Jab
- Pursuit
- Sucker Punch
- Taunt

Skuntank might be the best Pokemon in NU. It is just so solid at doing what it needs to do and totally walls grass types and threatens them with his STAB so they really aren't doing anything to this team. This is a great pairing with Ludicolo offensively since he can just spam Rain Boosted Surfs once the water types are gone. Plus it gives us more priority with STAB Sucker Punch. Pursuit is great for trapping weakened walls that want to Wish Pass out, Taunt is great against more stally Pokes in general and nabbing a Poison with Poison Jab is always appreciated.

images

Golbat @ Eviolite
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 248 HP / 228 Def / 32 Spd
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Taunt
- Toxic
- Super Fang

Thanks to Agent Ranger Detective Dell, Golbat has taken Mandibuzz's place on the team. Golbat simply has a much better typing for taking on the major threats to this team like CB Sawk and Bulk Up Gurdurr. Plus the added speed allows us to Taunt even more opposing Pokes, namely Misdreavous which could be annoying to take down otherwise.

images

Sawk (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Stone Edge

We chose Sawk just for it's sheer power and ability to completely tear teams apart with an Adamant CB spread. Mold Breaker is awesome for getting through Levitate and Sturdy Pokemon. Sawk also allows us to keep SR on the field against Armaldo spinners since Stone Edge has a very good chance to OHKO after SR. Once SR is there to stay Flying Types that resist Close Combat are reluctant to switch in and Sawk is free to run havoc on the majority of opposing teams.

images

Ludicolo @ Life Orb
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Giga Drain
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Rain Dance

Finally, Ludicolo, what could be said to be the glue of the team since it offers the teams only Special Attacks and it is the only way that we can outspeed scarfed Pokes and anything with high based speed that threatens the team such as Scolipede. Ludicolo gets a ton of setup opportunities on this team and its coverage and Dual STABs allow it to rip holes in the opposition or just clean up in the end game. Since it is the only Special Attacker on the team it is crucial against teams with physical walls like Tangela or Alomomola since they do a nice job taking hits from the rest of our team even though Manibuzz can Toxic Stall them as well.

Thanks for reading our RMT! If I had to say what was most threatening to this team based on our experience on the ladder so far it would be Misdreavous and Scolipede. Scolipede dishes out pretty huge damage to everything on our team besides Sawk and it outspeeds everything as well while resisting Sucker Punch. Misdreavous is just a great wall on both sides of the Spectrum and is faster than Golem and Manibuzz so it can Taunt them, plus Will-o-Wisp is a pain to a large portion of our team. And finally, shoutouts again to @DefenseCurler and Str8 N8 since this really was a true group effort in making this team.

Hey there, and good job on the ladder.

I find that this team really doesn't match up well against opposing Fighting-types, notably Sawk and Gurdurr. They are especially a problem as from the former you have absolutely nothing to reliably switch in on a banded Close Combat 2HKO'ing your entire team. You also have next to nothing to properly respond to opposing Sawk because of it resisting Sucker Punch, the main form of revenge killing for most of your team, and because otherwise it outspeeds nearly your entire team. Gurdurr can safely set up Bulk Up or attack most of your team members relatively, and can take advantage of Mandibuzz's Toxic through the help of Guts.

Regarding your concerns of Scolipede, between that and the fighting weakness that I've mentioned can be helped mitigated by replacing Mandibuzz with Golbat. Golbat is able to perform most roles that are similar to that of Mandibuzz, with the addition of its Poison-typing that helps you switch into most Fighting-types quite comfortably, and retaliate with Brave Bird. The Poison-typing is also helpful in terms of providing you a stall-breaker that is able to switch into Toxic users like Alomomola and take advantage of them with Taunt or a Toxic of its own. You can also make use of Super Fang so it's one particular thing that sets it apart from Mandibuzz outside of its typing, allowing it to lure Steel-types and break through most other physical walls that can be very helpful for your physical attackers for the long run. Another group of suggestions that I'd recommend taking is fairly minor compared to the replacement, but you can also opt to run max Speed Jolly on Kangaskhan so that you don't get forced out when matching up with Jolly Sawk. Whether or not you decide to run Jolly, you should at least run max Speed on Kangaskhan to speed tie opposing Kangaskhan regardless. You can also run Crunch on Skuntank so that you can have a way of hitting Scolipede without relying on Sucker Punch, while also making it easier to break through Misdreavus that doesn't mind staying in predicting a Pursuit.

Hope I helped. :>

Suggested changes:
Kangaskhan: EV spread change to 252 Spe / 252 Atk / 4 Spe; Jolly nature (optional)
Skuntank: Crunch > Poison Jab

Golbat @ Eviolite
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 248 HP / 228 Def / 32 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Roost
- Toxic / Super Fang
- Brave Bird

Thanks for the rate Agent Dell! Golbat seems like a great fit on this team so I'll definitely test it out! I haven't had any troubles with Kangaskhan's spread as of yet but I haven't played a ton of games with this team and extra speed never hurt anybody so it would definitely be worth trying. Crunch does seem like it would be nice on Skuntank in these situations but overall I think his other moves will be more beneficial. I'll keep it in mind though if those threats become increasingly problematic.

Honestly, i think the fact you're #1 on the ladder is imo a bug, because i saw you throw several battles, and each time you won an incredible amount of points, ONLY AGAINST BAD PLAYERS.
For instance, you lead with golem, and you didn't encountered ANY opposite CB sawk that could beat your golem. You didn't encountered ANY big stall team (because a better mandibuzz set in stall teams beats yours).
You have 19 battles, it's impossible to have 2401 points, and after your 14th battle, you only lost quite a few points, i found this very strange.
Otherway, you have a very cool hyper offensive team. :)

I don't really have something to say on the team, as i use exactly the same movesets on my mons, except modest ludicolo with surf, and timid with hydro pump, and i use a different mandibuzz spread.

I also agree with Agent Dell for the usage of Golbat, or use a better speed investment on your mandibuzz, to reach 237 (outspeed miltank) or 240 (outspeed 70 base speed with 252 EVs), but for sure you lose bulk, so Golbat seems to be the better option.

And I think that Poison Jab is far better than Crunch, the 30% poison is very useful.

I'm not a hater ! Good luck :)

Well you didn't watch our first few battles (you were evan bourne or something like that) and those were all against players with very high rankings and as you probably know those battles count for the most towards your ranking. We broke 1850 after 2 battles. We also lost about 300 points after our 14th battle so I don't know what you're talking about there. It definitely wasn't a bug but maybe we did get a little lucky by not facing CB Sawk but at the same time its not like its impossible for my team to play around. Anyway thanks for the rate I guess, even though you didn't make any original suggestions :/

The retarded ladder isn't a bug, it's just a retarded ladder. Basically, if you're lucky enough to get higher acre players your first few matches when you start on a ladder, then your ranking skyrockets as mc pointed out. If your acre is (because of this) out of sync with your gxe and glicko 2, ps will slowly adjust your acre to a more accurate value although sometimes for whatever reason it hasn't even done this even if your +- has dropped under 100. Mainly this happens if you play a lot of games really quickly, which it seems is what MC barrett did while laddering. Why PS doesn't rank players by their glicko 2 or gxe in the first place is beyond me but beacuse of this, MC's acre will likely drop suddenly for no reason even if he wins a few battles. Basically, your acre should be around like 2000 which is still pretty good.

Anyways the team looks solid, but I gotta ask what do you do against fighting types like gurrdurr or sawk?
