Fireflies and empty skies ..:Most Underated Mon:..

I'm not the best pokemon player, or deeply involved in pokemon like some of the guys like Kevin Garret or Stone Cold...i play when my kid and work allows me a break...I been playing competively for 5 years..and at 22 i am revisiting my childhood playing PO and browsing through Smogon... When my kid gets older, hopefully she will be posting along with all u smogonites! XD

When the news about new DW abilities were released; Sure i was intrigued with drizzle toad, drought tales, techniloom, and imposter ditto! but what i was anticipating the most was prankster Volbeat!

120px-313Volbeat.png

The most underused, underated, pokemon in the game today! When this thing was released i expected there to be noise, and that it would climb out of the depths of NU to OU at least UU. But It remained the same. The reason its the most underrated mon, is not because it is in UU and does damage in OU, but because it is in NU and does damage even in UBER

Since adding this pokemon to my team, i have never had so much 6-0's with one team. I got to 1500+ with this team, btw in UBER style (meaning u'd think my team was a uber team) peaking at 96th before the good weather noobs got me, which isn't bad since Ive centered my team around a NU mon. This isnt my best team, but its the most fun i had with a team since my ADV days with my Blastoise with surf, blizziard, ice beam and hydro pump and hyper beam, fireblast gyarados.

So there, team fireflies and empty skies had it first member, its priority tail glow(+3 sp atk) and baton pass was nothing to take lightly.

313.png

Next i needed a mon that could do damage with a +3 sp atk, unresisted coverage paired with speed. I chose my favorite mon, a mon that was trolling before trolling was cool....Gengar!
313.png

94.png

Gar is plan A, if his sweep is cut short I need B...so i looked at Alakazam n jolt, but the frailty was an issue, so i then looked at latios...It had a nice special bulk with useful resistances such as fire and water same speed as gar, so pretty soon it became a invaluable member of the team

My team cant all be filled with sweepers, so it was time to add some bulk and rocks...Sp def Rachi came into the picture, since volbeat was SR weak, wish support is a blessing to him.

My main sweepers were lacking something to counter its dark and ghost weaknesses, i also needed a strong physical poke , since my team was looking to go all special, lol. None better than scizor for the job.

I was severly fire weak (volcarona), tran doesnt fit on this team, and i was looking for an excellent typing mon with offensive power...Landorus was the best fit

Heres the team...

tumblr_lw0rjkEoi91r5ue2so1_500.jpg

Volbeat @ leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Ev's: 252 hp, 252 def, 4 sp def
Nature: relaxed
Iv's: 0 spe

-Tail Glow
-Baton Pass
-Substitute
-Encore

This thing is a fucking beast!...PLEASE try him out if u've over looked him or haven't. Whats separates Beat from other prankster users such as sableye and whimsicott is it actually sets up from the switches it WILL create. It doesn't waste time with status moves like leech seeding or WOW on the switch, it boosts it's Sp atk, 3 FUCKING stages!, and then pretty much guarantees passing that to someone wit priority bp... The recipient has to be fast because + 3 sp atk means shit if ur slow..I was a real douche back in the day with DW OU Baton passing a tail glow to my specs Kingdra in drizzle...lol.

Tail glow is obviously one of the best boosting move in the game, so i paired that with baton pass, to level a team out. Substitute protects my recipient from status or damage on the baton pass switch, and encore is what allows volbeat to set up on numerous occasions...I cant tell u how much times i let a cloyster and volcarona get to +6 in sp atk & speed but cant do anything because their locked into it (noobs of course..but still) with encore.
I chose relaxed nature and 0 spd iv's so ferrothornintheass, foretress's and borinzong gyroballs doesnt break my sub, as they are perfect fodders
Ev's are for max bulk.

Send this thing on a chansey, blissey, ferrothorn, Non acrobatics gliscor, skarmory, bronzong, jirachi, vaporeon, jellicent, toxicroak, donphan...pretty much half of OU and u will lock something into a move and begin to set up.

gengar.jpg

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
252 sp stk 252 spe 4 hp

-Shadow Ball
-Focus Blast
-Substitute
-Disable

By now everyone knows this Gengar set, a set i used in DP/P since disable was 80% acc..It still manages to mind fuck opponents. If Gar is behind a sub with +3 its gg! and i got logs and logs of it happening. I needed a pokemon that pwn with or without the BP boost. His useful immunities and 4x resistance to bug (u-turn) allows gengar to build a house behind subs. My fav mon just get better and better every gen (to me).

Nature n EV's are for max speed and power. Shadow ball and focus blast give unresisted coverage, and ive found recently FB is starting to hit more for me, so thats cool. sub is in case Gar forces a switch and i could damage or KO its counter, and disable is there so i KO something less predictable than a mon that only has one attacking move to hit me or is choiced.

latios_by_chirochick-d3bjwe5.png

Latios @ life orb
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
Evs 252 sp atk 252 spe 4 hp

-Dragon Pulse
-Hidden Power [Fire]
-Surf
-Recover

Nothing is more bad ass than watching Latios and Gengar working together

My second recipient of Tail Glow, It has speed, unresisted attacks, and nice resistances. I send him in if the opponent is trying to scald my Beat to death or if heatran switches in on Beat trying to KO him with Lava Plume. I was thinking of putting psyshock instead of dragon pulse for bliss/chansey, but really @ +3 blissey wont be laughing.

Ev's are for max speed and power, dragon pulse for STAB, hp fire for those that resist dragon pulse and surf is for those that resist both dp and hp fire...+ 3 surf OHKO Max hp max spdef t-tar in sand stream all day, which is nice.. this is a mon than does well on its own if my bp fail... maybe 1/10 times it happens though

**Note**
Ok i use U-turn a lot, so my next 3 mons are going to carry the move...its so crucial in aiding volbeat, to ease prediction, and catch something offguard using a non attacking move...all Volbeat needs to do is switch in on something that is boosting, sub-bing or laying down hazards, ant its pretty much GG from there
unless my opponent still has roar in the game.
Jirachi-1.gif

Jirachi @ leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
Nature: Careful
Ev's: 252 hp, 32 def, 224 sp def

-Body Slam
-U-turn
-Wish
-Steath Rock

Rachi tanks...plain and simple. He takes specs draco meteors for this team, along with other special moves, like scald and thunderbolt, and threatens to paralyze in return.
Body slam is to paralyze rachi's counters, and u-turn is so he doesnt become a fodder and works wonderful with wish..... Wish heals everyone, especially Volbeat who is SR weak, and SR is mandatory on any serious team. Not much to say on rachi..i love him to death!

127380810838.jpg

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
Nature: Adamant
Ev's: 252hp, 252 atk, 4 def

-Bullet Punch
-U-turn
-Superpower
-Quick Attack

Arguably the best pokemon in the game (non Uber). Scizor, saved me so many times..I cant say much about him, because explaining a pokemon of this calibor needs a forum itself...

BP for strong priority, U-turn for scouting and hit shit as hard as possible. Superpower for heatran switch ins and weaken skarms, quick attack for OKHO ing volcarona after stealth rocks, starmies, and rotoms..Ev's to get as much bulk as possible along w/power

landorus_by_yilx-d3bg25o.jpg

Landorus @ choice scarf
Ability: Sand Power
Nature: Naive
Ev's: 252 atk, 252spe, 4 sp atk

-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Hidden Power [Ice]
-U-turn

Landorus is a bitch but I hate him out of respect. When facing an opposing Laslow, i have no idea whats he gonna do. Turn out? EQ? predict a levitator and go for Stone Edge? I just dont know, and for that alone i want him on my team. He also gets rid of volcarona and D-nite for me after a boost, in case I dont want to risk switching in volbeat, hoping to lock them in D- or Q- Dance, but instead gets it KO'd

Earthquake is for reliable STAB. Stone Edge gives it Nice coverage, and hp ice for gliscor switch ins, d-nite, mence and opposing landorus.U-turn scouts n hit stuff freely without being locked

Theres the team...
Direct Threats
-Roar messes me to set up sometimes, but usually I lock a roar user into another move, or i keep u-turning out racking up damage on the roar user...
-Priority moves are a threat, especially if Gar and jirachi is down, but rachi can take a beating from those bullet punches and extremespeed, Gar, latios, and Volbeat takes mach punches like a boss
- Weather...Rain isnt a prob, because most rain teams carry fodders, such as tentacruel and toxicroak, Vappy, toed, n so much more/
Sun teams pose more of a threat since 3 of my mons are fire weak. landorus most of the time take out fire pokes and latios fucks venasaur

I wont have time to do a detailed threat list...hope ya'll enjoy

Assuming that you can successfully pass something on to either Latios or Gengar, you should be good to go.

Just beware of Tornadus, which could Pranktser-Taunt your Volbet which screws up your plan, then you just have to pray that Tornadus won't rip you apart especiacilly if it's being used on a rain team.

If not Torndadus, people will probably know what you're doing, so they will try to constabntly break you sub leaving Gengar still powerful, but vulnerable to the likes of Choice Scar users (notably Tyranitar) and Blissey (who only takes 70.6% - 83.2% from +3 Focus Blast) who can then Paralize Gengar. Latios is in a similar boat.

I'm not an expert, so I don't know what to suggest, but beware of this.

Wow. How the heck does one get 23 views at once? Badassness.;P
I support what antianti said. Taunt will definitely screw up your volbeat, and so will scizor and tyranitar leads that threaten with high powered STABS yet can trap you with pursuit.
I can also see rotomw with trick screwing your team too. If volbeat gets tricked a scarf or something like that, you're pretty much screwed. I don't know much about volbeat myself, and neither do most of the players here, so I don't thin I can help you that much.
I guess this makes this post a mini threatlist, then.
Anyway, good luck!
