So, I've been playing on pokemon simulators since Advance and Netbattle. Most of the time, I am able to win about as many battles as I lose, and I'm looking to get better. I like to build teams that are centered around one of my favorite pokemon, and the pokemon that this team is centered around is Volcarona.
Gengar (M) @ Focus Sash Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Counter
- Sludge Bomb
- Shadow Ball
- Destiny Bond
I read a topic about this lead Gengar on Gamefaqs back when Diamond and Pearl were still young. I decided to try this set out on Shoddy, and have mostly stuck with it ever since. About half the time, Gengar is able to take out two pokemon for the price of one, with Counter and Destiny Bond. But, I'm not sure Gengar is the best fit for a team centered around Volcarona.
Ninetales (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drought
EVs: 172 HP / 168 Def / 168 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Flamethrower
- Protect
- SolarBeam
- Substitute
Volcarona likes to have Sunny Day up, and Ninetales does that job. Ninetales is really kind of... meh. He usually doesn't do much else than setting up the eternal sun. I came up with this bulky set for Ninetales, in case he had to come back in and set up the sun again, but he really can't take hits that well. I'm really not sure what to do with him.
Lucario (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- ExtremeSpeed
- Crunch
- Close Combat
- Swords Dance
Revenge killer. Can set up a SD and sweep, if I feel like doing that. Again, I'm not sure he is really the best fit for my team, or his moveset is.
Donphan (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 172 HP / 168 Def / 168 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
Stealth Rocker and Rapid Spinner. Ninetales' eternal sun also helps with one of his weaknesses. That and his Sturdy ability are the main reasons I went with this guy. He's pretty good at getting the job done, but if you have any suggestions on improvements, they would be greatly appreciated.
Venusaur (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 172 HP / 168 Def / 168 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Growth
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Synthesis
Backup sweeper. He can take hits pretty well, and then Synthesis them off and go for a sweep. I'm not sure if Energy Ball or Solarbeam is the better move for this set. Solarbeam has 50% more power and can get me some 1hkos that E-ball would miss out on, but I have to bring Ninetales out in order to use it.
Volcarona (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Morning Sun
The star of the show. This guy is my favorite Gen 5 pokemon insofar, both for how powerful it is, and how cool it looks. Anyway, I chose a physically bulky set, to improve Volcarona's odds of getting more Quiver Dances in, therefore having a better chance to sweep my opponent's team. Not sure whether Morning Sun is the better option (since it gets nerfed in sandstorm) or Hidden Power Rock (for killing rival Volcaronas and Fire-types)
So thats all there is too it. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
