SS OU First Attempt at a Competitive Team

Hi guys,

This is my first attempt at setting up a competitive team and I wanted to know if it is viable. Any suggestions for improvement would also be appreciated!

Give me the harsh truth

Haxorus
This dragon is straight fire. Hands down my favourite pokemon. Aside from the cool design this beast hits like a truck with a really high base attack. Get a dragon dance online and go to town. Focus Sash let's it go to war with any other dragon (apart from one but we will get to that....) and there is good coverage with both earthquake and poison jab. Typing also has some useful resistances. I try to use it at the very end of the battle when all threats have been worn down or removed.

Issues:
  • Corviknight - Haxorus can't do anything against Corviknight so avoid that match up.
  • Dragapult - Darts bypass the Sash and Haxorus can't out speed it when scarfed.
  • Cursola - Goes without saying but this thing will just completely wall any physical attacker.
:weezing:
Galarian Weezing

Sir Weezy is back and ready to setup poison spikes and be a general nuisance. Has good stab moves with strange stream and sludge wave and can haze if a sweeper is getting too comfortable. With Levitate it can avoid ground attacks and wall physical threats.

Issues:

  • Special Attack - Anything with good special attack will erase Weezing. Especially Psychic types like Hatterene - need to swerve that and leave it for Dusknoir to deal with.
:dusknoir:
Dusknoir

Even though rapid spin isn't that prevalent right now Dusknoir is still good at negating physical attackers with will o wisp and haze. Paired with pain split and shadow sneak Dusknoir can stay in the fight and chip away at the opposition. Haze can be replaced with Brick Break which gives it access to Max Knuckle - with a respectable base 100 attack this boost can deal damage in a pinch.

Issues:

  • Physical attackers - Physical attackers that can strike before being burned are troublesome given Dusknoir's poor speed. Predictive pain splits will keep you alive though.
:frosmoth:
Frosmoth

My favourite new pokemon and ace in the hole. With the amazing hidden ability ice scales it is a surprisingly bulky pokemon that has access to quiver dance. The move coverage is good as well with stab bug buzz, ice beam/blizzard, hurricane and even giga drain for some sustain. Set up on pokemon like Cursola and it will quickly get out of hand for the opposition.

Threats (where to begin....):

  • Typing: Bug and Ice is a bad defensive typing with a plethora of weaknesses, especially rock and fire.
  • Frail: It also has a low defense so it needs to setup on the right pokemon.
  • Stealth rock: This can be alleviated with heavy duty boots but we have Cinderace to deal with that.
:Cinderace:
Cinderace

Cinderace is amazing right now. With court change it can turn the tides and make it safe for other pokemon like Frosmoth and Haxorus to sweep. It can also shut down an entire teams strategy. Got a Grimmsnarl setting up screens? No problem. Sticky Web? It's mine now. It is also blessed with high speed and attack with a decent move pool. Don't sleep on this pokemon especially with Libero potentially being released soon. But don't forget those heavy duty boots!

Threats:

  • Bulky water types - Pex, Seismitoad and Pelipper are trouble!
  • Frail - Low defenses mean that it has no jaw. Typical glass cannon.
:Mandibuzz:
Mandibuzz

Mandibuzz is just so solid. A good defensive wall that can knock off vital items and set toxic to burn down defensive pokemon. Try to target Cursola's eviolite and stay in the game with roost. My go to opener as defog can negate hazard setters.

Threats:

  • Special attacking pokemon - Special attacking fairies are a problem. Can get setup on if not careful.

Welcome to Smogon! I'm locking your RMT for the time being as the forum rules require that you provide at least 3 lines of descriptions for each Pokemon to explain their roles. It would also be a good idea to provide an importable for your team, so that people can use/rate it easier. Please read the rules carefully and take a look at Team Showcase to see the level of detail we require. PM me with updated descriptions and I'll be happy to unlock this. If you need help with the explanations, you can visit the OU forum and look at the individual pokemon threads for help.

Unlocked!
