Battle Spot First attempt at compiling a team. Spooky Cup Trick Room Team

This is my first attempt at compiling a team. I'm in the process of breeding pokemon and I haven't started EV training. So this will be my only time to make changes before I start making the team. This will probably be my first time playing doubles competitively. Any criticisms, comments, and suggestions are always welcome.

Jellicent @ Safety Goggles

Ability: Cursed Body or Water Absorb

EVs: 252 HP / 204 Def / 52 SpD

Relaxed Nature

  • - Trick Room
  • - Scald
  • - Shadow Ball
  • - Recover
I chose Jellicent because it has a good enough bulk to lay down a trick room at least once, and recover to shrug off the damage received. Scald is a main Water Type Stab with a chance to cripple physical attackers with a burn.

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpA

Quiet Nature

  • - King's Shield
  • - Shadow Ball
  • - Flash Cannon
  • - Sacred Sword
A big mistake for Nintendo to allow Aegislash in the Spooky Cup. Even in Smogon Aegislash was a threat. Aegislash really benefits from Trick Room. Aegislash has its own version of Protect: King's Shield, making use of it's Shield Forme. Shadow Ball and Flash Cannon are main STAB attacks, providing coverage against Ghost, Psychic, and Fairy Types. Sacred Sword is chosen for Dark Type coverage. Its Steel typing allows it to wall Tangrowth, who suffers from low SpD.

Muk @ Assault Vest

Ability: Poison Touch

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def

Brave Nature

  • - Poison Jab
  • - Shadow Sneak
  • - Giga Drain
  • - Ice Punch
Muk is chosen because it can also really benefit from Trick Room. Add an Assault Vest and you have a bulky powerhouse. Poison Jab not only provides a poison type stab against Shiftry, Cacturne, and Parasect, but with Poison Touch, it has a 60% total chance of poisoning its target, wearing down bulky foes like Tangrowth, who also takes super effective damage, but with a high enough defense to survive a super effective attack. Giga Drain is used to recover some damage it takes, allowing it to stay in battle a little longer. Ice Punch is used most against ground types, and dragons like Hydreigon.

Gothitelle @ Sitrus Berry

Ability: Shadow Tag

EVs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 244 SpD

Sassy Nature

  • - Psychic
  • - Trick Room
  • - Heal Pulse
  • - Protect
Gothitelle is my defensive trick room support. Also bulky enough to set down a trick room before it faints. Heal Pulse used as a support feature by healing off her bulky teammates.

Cofagrigus @ Leftovers

Ability: Mummy

EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD

Quiet Nature

  • - Trick Room
  • - Shadow Ball
  • - Nasty Plot
  • - Hidden Power Fighting or Will-o-Wisp
Another Bulky pokemon not only a trick room setter, but also a pokemon that benefits from Trick Room.

Chandelure @ Focus Sash

Ability: Flash Fire

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA

Quiet Nature

  • - Trick Room
  • - Heat Wave
  • - Shadow Ball
  • - Protect
A trick room setter with good offensive power. I've considered leading with Chandelure, since it's fast enough to drop a trick room. Heatwave is its main fire type stab, used against threats like Tangrowth, Aegislash, and more. Flash Fire, best used to switch in to Volcarona and Chandelure.

Other Pokemon considered for the team: Dusclops, Exploud, Granbull, Golurk, Tangrowth, Absol, Beheeyem, Marowak

Ok so I just wanted to say this before you do anything;

PRACTICE ON POKEMON SHOWDOWN!

Don't just breed this team and theorymon how it's all gonna work because I promise you it won't go as planned. Every time there's one of these competitions on Battle Spot we get the format put on PS! (unless it's Rotations since the simulator can't do those) so we can all practice ideas beforehand...

Anyway, this team is totally destroyed by Hydreigon (or really any of the Dark-types in this meta). It hits your whole team, save for Muk, super effectively, and you have no way of killing it except for Aegislash's Sacred Sword and Muk's Ice Punch (neither of which OHKO so you need to hit it twice). Specs Hydreigon can OHKO your whole team with Dark Pulse except for Muk so any team with it basically auto-wins. Dark in general in this meta is going to be really strong since the only resists are Dark-types themselves (there aren't heaps), Mawile, Granbull, and Toxicroak...

Also, having Trick Room on 4 Pokemon is overkill. You really only need 1-2, and if you're only using 1 it's often a good idea to have a 'non-Trick Room mode' backup plan in case you can't get it up, with some faster mons.

Tbh, there are way too many things that I want to suggest for this team as it doesn't seem very synergetic at all, so I'm not going to bother since it won't be the same/your team by the end if it. You've mostly just thrown together 4 Trick Room setters and Aegislash.. I strongly recommend checking out the discussion thread we have for this competition and asking any questions you have there, trying out the meta on Pokemon Showdown!, and hanging out in the Battle Spot room there too. There's always a few of us there and we're really into talking about this Spooky Cup thing.

I might as well leave some ideas here so it's not all just 'go here' advice.. For a Trick Room setter, something I've been actually contemplating is Mr. Mime. Here's what I thought might work:

Mr. Mine @ Mental Herb / Sitrus Berry
Ability: Filter
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm / Sassy Nature
- Trick Room
- Dazzling Gleam
- Quick Guard
- Wide Guard / Encore / Teeter Dance / Protect / Fake Out

So he becomes pretty tanky in the special department, but a bit physically frail, and has to watch out for Mawile, Toxicroak and Scolipede who can KO it with a super effective physical move. You can run a Bold spread with full defensive investment which gives you a chance to live these moves, or have a redirector such as Volcarona to take those Iron Heads / Poison moves. Mr. Mime also puts a serious dent in Hydreigon with Dazzling Gleam (chance to OHKO too).

So yeah, I actually think you should try out Mr. Mime > Cofragrigus since he's probably your weakest team member (in the TR department).
