First Balanced Team

This is my first team ever created, so it's probably really bad, and that's why I need suggestions to improve it :).

Note that a lot of the EV spreads and abilities are carbon copies from the Strategy Pokedex here.

LEAD
260.png

Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 240 HP/216 Def/52 SpDef
Relaxed nature (+Def,-Spd)
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Stealth Rock
---

This used to be a Focus Sash Azelf, but I realized that all it could do is lay the Rocks, then Explode if it doesn't get BulletPunched, so I changed it to something bulkier. Swampert can also counter Baton Passers with Roar and a lot of the sweepers with Ice Beam.

PHYSICAL WALL
227.png

Skarmory (M) @ Shed Shell
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/240 Def/16 SpDef
Impish nature (+Def,-SpAtk)
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
---

This used to be Dusknoir, he didn't have any good way to heal himself, so I changed it to Skarmory. I can now also lay spikes for more Roar and Whirlwind damage.

PHYSICAL SWEEPER
130.png

Gyarados (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk,-SpAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Waterfall
---

Gyarados is without a doubt one of the best sweepers in OU, so that's why I chose him. With one DD I can rape almost anything, and the ones I can't kill (bulky Water types) are taken care of with Rotom-h.

SPECIAL SWEEPER/SPIN BLOCKER
499.png

Rotom-h @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def/252 SpAtk/252 SpDef
Modest nature (+SpAtk,-Atk)
- Hidden Power Fighting
- Overheat
- Thunderbolt
- Trick
---

Rotom-h is a pefect switch-in to almost everything Gyarados's can't kill. It also has Trick to cripple special walls that tend to switch into Rotom-h. I might change this since it gets owned by Tyranitar and Scizor, two Pokemon to which I have no counter (I think).

REVENGE KILLER
330.png

Flygon (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spd/4 SpDef
Adamant nature (+Atk,-SpAtk)
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- ThunderPunch
- U-turn
---

Don't really have a description here since I changed the Pokemon...

SPECIAL WALL
242.png

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpAtk
Bold nature (+Def,-Atk)
- Protect
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Wish
---

Blissey is definitely the best special wall in the game. She also completes the awesome SkarmBliss combo with Skarmory, and provides Wish support for Swampert mainly, although I am considering a Softboiled/Aromatherapy set because I got screwed so many times by T-Wave and Burn hax.

So there you have it, my probably very sloppy team. ANY constructive suggestion will be appreciated.

infernape and jolteon both are huge threats this team, but jolteon is less threatening because you have blissey to sponge electric attacks aimed at gyarados and skarmory, while infernape brings down your team with a combination of fire blast, close combat and grass knot. this team is slightly weak to magnezone as well, it can thunderbolt skarmory and outspeed gyarados with scarf if it's not at +1 and kill it off with thunderbolt, while explosion can be used against blissey (157.3% - 185.2% assuming no atk evs and a neutral atk nature, do i need to say more ?) while hidden power fire kisses breloom goodbye (87.9% - 103.8% assuming scarf and a neutral spa nature)

so to fix this, you need to replace breloom, i dont see it doing anything good to this team, replace it with scarf flygon so you can be able to revenge-kill infernape, jolteon and magnezone

flygon @ choice scarf
jolly
252 atk / 4 spdef (so you dont give porygonz an spa boost) / 252 spe
naive / jolly
- u-turn
- outrage
- earthquake
- fire blast / thunderpunch / stone edge

and remove roar from your swampert, give it protect or waterfall or somethin', you can use surf to hit skarmory harder

btw, this is the worst blissey ev spread i've ever seen, a choice band u-turn from max attack scizor does 96.2% - 113.2% and a +2 life orb bullet punch is 164.8% - 194.1%, +2 life orb bug bite is 247.1% - 290.8% while brick break is 274.5% - 323.2%

change it to 252 hp / 252 def / 4 spa with a bold nature and give it flamethrower, it does 92.5% - 109.6% to minimum hp/spd scizor

Thank you for the reply. I will change Breloom, but Blissey already has crap defense. Are you sure maxing the EV's will help it survive physical attacks?

blissey has shitload of hp, bold and 252 def and hp make it receive 47.9% - 56.4% (from an ohko into a barely 2hko assuming no stealth rock and leftovers recovery) from max attack choice band scizor u-turn, while it ohkos it with 252 hp / 252 spd

so yes its definitely worth it, it also makes it sponge special attacks very well, its spd is already high and doesnt need any improvements especially with its huge hp, example of that is blissey taking 29.1% - 34.5% from choice specs modest 252 spa starmie's hydro pump.

Ok, now that I got rid of Breloom I realize how freaking annoying it is. It seems that the opposing ALWAYS has one (at least in Pokemon Lab it's quite the thing), and I always get wrecked by Spore + Focus Punch. Any ideas on how I can counter that?

Lum berry and taunt on Gyara. With this you can come in spore , taunt him and use DD.Put some evs on hp and a -1 seed bomb doesnt do nothing to gyara.

What about Sleep users that are faster than Gyarados, like Roserade? I still can't figure a good way to counter them, especially if they are lead...

I've been thinking of changing my lead to a Lum Berry Metagross, so if I'm up against Roserade, I EQ on the first turn, take the Sleep Powder with Lum Berry, then Bullet Punch on the second turn for the kill (I think it can finish it off, correct me if I'm wrong). But then that would leave me with 2 pokemon terribly weak to fire...

Anyone have a suggestion?

Hi there, this is an excellent team you've constructed, however, I do see a couple of Pokemon which can cause your team problems. Nasty Plot Infernape is one of these threats as after a single nasty plot boost which it can easily get in front of Blissey, it can quite frankly, rampage through every single member of team excluding Gyarados which can possible be OHKOd by a +2 Fire Blast. In a similar vein, substitute Heatran variants can also prove to be a problem as it will usually be able to KO one to two Pokemon; if it carries Explosion, Blissey will not be able to wall it due to it being OHKOd by the aforementioned explosion.

503.png

Rotom-W @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SpAtk/4 SpDef
Timid nature (+Spd,-Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Trick

To help deal with those threats, I suggest you make two changes inn your team. First of all, I suggest making you Gyarados the standard bulky DD set which will be able to stand up to nasty plot Infernape better than your current variant. Also, I suggest replacing your choice specs Rotom-h with a scarfed Rotom-w (the set is shown above). Scarf Rotom-W makes an excellent revenge killer to any set-up Infernape variant as it is immune to one of its STABs and can easily KO with Hydro Pump. Also, Rotom-w can help deal with Heatran variants as well as Sub-Punch Gengar which can present a minor threat to your team. I hope this helped, and good luck!
