First Competitive Team! Doomsday: Mega Houndoom

So, here it is guys. After playing my fair share of Random Battles on the simulator, watching and researching competitive play I decided to try to build my own team. I know it looks kind of wacky but I decided I wanted to play with some of my personal favorite Pokemon and maybe make something a little unexpected.

Houndoom-Mega @ Houndoominite
Ability: Solar Power
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Sunny Day
- Solar Beam
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse

Mega Houndoom, my first choice for the team. Its a standard Special Sweeper using Sunny Day for the super powerful Fire Blast and a quick Solar Beam. Dark Pulse for the extra type coverage. I saw a lot of other teams that built around this guy using a sun team but I didn't want to make this team too predictable and weathers been nerfed anyways.

Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Volt Switch

Pretty self explanatory here. A tank to Rapid Spin entries out and dish them out too. Volt Switch to switch out in a pinch.

Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 84 Def / 116 SAtk / 56 Spd
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Signal Beam

I LOVE playing with Cresselia, her bulkiness is a force to be reckoned with and her levitate helps deal with those pesky EQs. Sub>Calm Mind> SWEEP. Psyshock great for specially defensive opponents and Signal Beam for nice extra type coverage.

Zangoose @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Toxic Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Facade
- Close Combat
- Quick Attack

Another one of my favorite Pokemon, I couldn't help not playing him, he's such a BAMF. This is basically the classic Zangoose set. Still wondering if I should get some better coverage for him though since his defenses are pretty squishy.

Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Power Whip
- Aqua Tail

Goodra is awesome, he's a great Physical Sweeper with a diverse moveset. It's too bad he's mono-Dragon but he can get the job done.

Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Bold Nature
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Stun Spore
- Encore

Such an annoying Pokemon to play against if you're not ready. He's my main support here, while substituting Stun Spore for his classic build with Taunt. Hopefully that extra paralysis can help my Houndoom or Zangoose set up a sweep.

Amazing team. I'm very impressed. You've got pretty decent team synergy, and you've got all of your weaknesses covered. I would maybe give Whimsicott Sunny Day, and a Heat Rock to set up for Houndoom. The demon dog has 75 / 90 / 90 defenses which aren't terribly bad, but it's got four of the most common weaknesses in the game right off the bat, so you're not going to have a chance to get Sunny Day up. Houndoom usually will only last one to three turns, but if used correctly, he can sweep until the sun fades.

Houndoom @ Houndoomite - Timid ( Solar Power )
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe +
- Flamethrower ( Reliable, sun boosted STAB )
- Solar Beam ( Water coverage )
- Dark Pulse ( STAB )
- Overheat / Fire Blast ( Stronger STAB, but less reliable )

The only other fault that I see with your team is your physical Goodra. The pseudo legend does have 100 base attack, but it's got 110 base special attack, and a much more diverse special movepool.

Goodra @ Assault Vest - Modest ( Hydration )
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA + / 4 SpD
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam

This gives Goodra a more offensive feel, as it's got a dry support movepool. Draco Meteor is the last resort STAB move. Thunderbolt, Fire Blast, and Ice Beam give a wide variety of Pokemon that can be hit without any setbacks. Your Sap Sipper physical set was nice, but you don't really have a Pokemon that is prone to get hit by grass attacks.

Oh, wow. Thank you so much! I was considering the Heat Rock a lot, you're right about Sunny Day on Houndoom. After testing it, it's too slow. I usually get KO'd pretty quickly, so I'll switch that out. And I never even realized the base stat change with Goodra so I'll try your set out.
Thanks again!
