First Competitive Team, Feedback Appreciated :)

So I am pretty new to online battling, I have loved pokemon for years now and competitive battling has really drawn me even closer to Pokemon.

So I wanted to base a team around an opening Ambipom with fake out, just cause. This is the Ambipom..

Ambipom @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Pursuit
- Double Hit
- U-turn

First of all i love the idea of fake out and its flinch mechanic, due to the wellknowness (words?) of the fake out ambipom i attached pursuit for those people with aegislash or other ghost types that would be immune to fake out. This is also a double edged sword.. Pursuit also is supper effective against aegis lash. However a concern of mine is ambipoms weakness to fighting type moves, moves that an aegis lash or other mon might have. For this reason I wanted to add a Chandulure, my special attacking BEAST. This is it..

Chandelure Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SAtk / 8 SDef / 248 Spd
Modest Nature
- Energy Ball
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute

First of all I also added chandelier to the team as i knew in advance i was wanting to put in a ferrothorn (who also is weak to fighting types) but also is super vulnerable to fire type moves. I plan to use chandulure to counter the fire type moves followed by either a substitute for a free attack next turn, or a free switch into something more suitable. Energy ball seemed like a good choice for if i subbed into a water type energy ball could potentially do some good damage before switching out. Still not 100% on this build however.. On to Ferrothorn I guess..

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip

So Ferrothorn is my defensive wall, who can setup stealth rocks for those peaks flying type (For which I do not really have another answer for as of yet.. Help.) and basically having rocks up is never a bad idea. I also like the idea of getting a leech seed in just for some extra sustainability and even to scare out some of my opponents pokemon if needed. Gyro ball doesn't really appeal to me, but most other ferrothorns seem to have it so I went with it, And power whip seems to come in handy every now and again.. Would absolutely love some advice on how to adjust my ferrothorn. My next Pokemon came from the fact i needed a special defensive wall. After Advice from the people below I decided to go for a Sylveon.

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Protect

So now I have my new Fairy type special defensive wall/Support poekmon. I love the swap from florges and the wish protect combo, or wish switch combo is pretty great late game. And the hyper voice seems to throw some people off guard, Although I am at a pretty low Elo :3. I then needed a strong physical sweeper that was resistant to ground types.. A flying physical beast.. Gyarados!

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Substitute

Yes I understand gyarados loses its flying type after mega evolving, however i see this as an opportunity to switch him in on ground type moves, Sub then DD waterfall a team, However the mega evolution kinda causes me to struggle against ground types especially when my SAtk sweeper is weak to them, so Suggestions would be highly appreciated. So i take sub for the obvious switches, I take DD for the free boost behind the sub and waterfall is obvious. After advice given I decided to go with EQ to deal with electric types and overall give me a better spread.. And due to having a gyarados needing a switch in sub setup, i needed a spinner. Couldn't really find anything that great, but a hitmontop with intimidate seemed like a good choice.

Hitmontop (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Careful Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Close Combat
- Sucker Punch
- Bullet Punch

Obviously went for rapid spin as my spinner. Only problem is that he is really slow. Was maybe thinking of putting a focus sash on to guarantee a spin. I went sucker punch both for a priority attack if need but more importntily ghost spin blockers! I seem to focus a bit of time on ghost types as to me they seem reeeeeal strong, Trevenant being a pretty scary ghost wall. After some advice I switched into assault vest, and added in close combat and bullet punch for another priority move.

Thank you! sorry for not adding pictures of the pokemon or anything its just that its like 1.40am and i just got home from work where i was thinking about this team all night and just had to express my thoughts and put them into words. All feedback is appreciated even if it is switching pokemon out for new ones or even slight EV changes anything helps :) Love the community on here also everyone seems pretty cool and am keen to be apart of it, Goodnight I'll check in, in the morning and see if anyone has replied :)

Kinda new to competitive pokemon, but from what I've seen so far, Sylveon is the preferred Fairy cleric.
Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Def / 12 Spd
Bold Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Protect
This is the build I've seen the most, and I like it. There are more aggro versions of it with the EVs spread more for Speed and Sp. Attack so Sylveon isn't just sitting there pretending to be a fluffy wall after the heals. Can't really think of anything else at the moment.

On the Hitmontop, I would use:
Hitmontop @ Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 208 SDef / 48 Atk
Careful Nature
- Close Combat/Mach Punch/Seismic Toss
- Bullet Punch
- Rapid Spin
- Sucker Punch

Personally, with the EV spread on that Hitmontop needs Assault Vest.

On the Gyarados set, I would use earthquake instead of Stone Edge for Electric coverage. Sub DD Gyarados isn't the best, so you could possibly run Stone Edge + EQ + Waterfall + DD for great coverage!

Very nice team. Good luck to you in the future!

Welcome to Smogon!

Welcome to the world of competitive pokemon!

I do have a couple of recommendations for your team.

First off, sylveon is better than florges for the role you currently are using it in. Hypervoice replaces moonblast to hit through subs while also hitting a little harder due to pixilate. Since sylveon has more hp it passes bigger wishes and hases slightly better mixed bulk. If this is a wifi team florges is technically a better option because of how difficult hyper voice pixilate sylveon is to get, but I still would recommend aromatherapy over toxic if you end up sticking with florges.

Gyarados should run earthquake over stone edge to beat rotom w when mega. Stone edge is ok, but mold breaker eq is even better.

For a fighting type check, chandelure is kind of mediocre. You should be fine in this regard because of gyarados though. Chandy is fine as a fire type check, but you should be using either a scarf to outspeed fire types that would generally spam eq at you after you switch in or a balloon to better check these fire types.

Everything else seems ok. There are other things you should consider using over what you currently have, but nothing notable sticks out that would be a quick fix. Hope I was helpful.

I decided to stick with the substitute it just seemed like a good idea. If i do this what else can I do to deal with flying types?
