Been having a lot of success with this team, so I thought I'd put it up here
Metagross @ Lum Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 hp, 236 atk, 12 def, 8 spe
Adamant nature
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Meteor Mash
- Stealth Rock
Fairly standard lead metagross, can usually set up a SR, or at least get an EQ on Trick Jirachis before switching. I usually explode it on major threats, but if it survives it makes a decent backup tank and is just fairly useful all around. I originally lead with an aerodactyl, but it never lasted and didn't really help much damage-wise, it also didn't allow me to explode for a free switch. I tried tyranitar for a bit, but sand stream always killed off ursaring, and I only had two pokes that could take the inevitable fighting attack headed towards it. Metagross allows me to switch to slowbro, gliscor and maybe scizor on an EQ, slowbro, gliscor and heatran on a fire attack, assuming I don't explode it for an easy switch.
Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 212 hp, 252 def, 44 spA
Bold nature
- Grass Knot
- Ice Beam
- Slack Off
- Surf
Bulky water, my dragon killer and my swampert counter. I orinally ran it with HP electric for gyarados, but swampert just absolutely destroyed my team, grass knot fixed this quick. I'm pretty comfortable switching him in on a lot, slacking off the damage, and maybe taking out a weakened poke with surf. The typing and ability lets it come in on machamp, ground, fighting, steel, rock and pretty much anything physical that isn't super effective. Surprisingly powerful too, as ice beam will 1hko most dragons (particularly salamence) who might try to set up on slowbro. I'm strongly considering switching something up, maybe putting on psychic instead of surf or ice beam to scare off gyarados, however, stealth rock, explosions and ursaring give me decent gyarados coverage. I'm not surf, the attack typing seems pretty redundant, STAB psychic can be pretty scary when unexpected (particularly for the gengars who like to switch in on it).
Functions as a bit of a panic button for when I screw something up.
Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 hp, 252 spe, 252 spA
Naive nature
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Explosion
Revenge killer that works great with scizor. Pretty standard scarftran, but I went with dragon pulse over hidden power just for neutral damage, I figured no steel type would have the balls to switch into a (usually) boosted heatran aside from another heatran, and they if they had it they would have likely sent it in against my scizor, so dragon will hit anything neutral when they switch in, likely taking a huge chunk of their hp out, or koing a latias/salamence/kingdra. if it doesn't ko it will probably force another switch at the least.
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 hp, 252 atk, 4 spe
Adamant nature
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- Uturn
My scout and setup for Heatran the majority of the time. Switch him in on something that doesn't like him, either pursuit or superpower to hit something hard (pursuit preferred if it would do good damage), then switch out to heatran on the inevitable fire attack. I usually use him right after metagross so that they don't see my heatran and plan ahead. On the off chance they aren't packing fire, I can switch to gliscor or slowbro to absorb whatever neutral damage I see coming. Its main purpose is scouting/pursuit damage, but it can and will get a few kos over the course of the match.
Gliscor @ Leftovers
Ability: Hypercutter
EVs: 252 hp, 40 atk, 216 spe
Jolly nature
- Baton Pass
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
Between Metagross, Heatran, Slowbro and Scizor this guy will get a few free, or at least close to free switch ins. Put him in on someone who doesn't like him, swords dance on the switch, and either pass it to ursaring or hit what they switched in. Cleans up whatever ursaring leaves behind quite well. Works well for passing to ursa since most fighting types will get out once they see gliscor, and on the off chance they do they won't attempt to hit it with a fighting move. I originally ran roost instead of stone edge, but every once in a while I'd lose a game with gliscor as my last pokemon, fighting some flying type that basically won for free.
Ursaring @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Quick Feet
EVs: 4 hp, 252 atk, 252 spe
Jolly nature
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Facade
- Fire Punch
With a passed Swords Dance from Gliscor Facade will 1hko anything that doesn't resist it, and fire punch and eq will kill almost anything that does. The last attack slot was a toss up, but I decided on crunch since it kos dusknoir, which is the only thing that effectively walls this. Crunch is also pretty safe for when you don't want to predict the switch. I usually have to take out the other guys Scizor or Infernape before sending this guy out, but his natural bulk always lets him get a few hits in before going down (unless it takes a mach punch, which is why I always try to get rid of infernape). Can take a hit from anything aimed a gliscor and still get in 3 attacks (KOs) before toxic kills it. If, for some reason it doesn't take a hit on switch, it'll likely sweep. If I can get it in on one round of toxic spikes, even better. Gliscor is the most common lead for this, but Scizor can also do it (for a weaker version, STAB Facade still hurts a lot though) if gliscor isn't safe, usually for RD teams. Can also revenge kill a bit.
You can run agility on gliscor and guts on ursa, but assuming I can't pass for some reason I'd rather have the speed, and if you get the pass it's the exact same bear.
I know it's steel heavy, and normally magnezone would have a field day, but he has to worry about EQ on metagross (explosion will do 71% on most if he pulls off a magnet pull), and heatran and scizor are both pretty safe, even if they can be caught in a choice dragon pulse or bullet punch, as they never predict the first pulse (usually go with flamethrower afterwards), and bullet punch is normally for cleaning up what's left.
Any advice? it seems a bit weak against gyarados and cresselia, but even then, ursaring/scizor can deal with them well
