First Competitive Team...

Ok so this is my first team that I made to play competitively and is also my first ever post on Smogon so I will probably make errors and mistakes. I wanted to play competitively for a while now because I wanted to see how other people play pokemon.

Crustle @ Lum Berry
Trait: Sturdy
Evs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
-Spikes
-Stealth Rock
-Stone Edge
-X-scissor

Crustle is used to set up entry hazards and sturdy keeps it alive to at least put out stealth rock. Lum berry is used instead of a mental herb because I think it can be a good attacker.

Heracross @ Life Orb
Trait: Guts
Evs: 4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spe
Adamant Nature(+Atk,-SAtk)
-Megahorn
-Close Combat
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake

Heracross is one of my main attackers. Megahorn and Close Combat are its STAB moves while Stone edge takes out flying types. Earthquake for coverage. I don’t like pursuit much.

Hydreigon@ Expert Belt
Trait: Levitate
Evs:4 Hp/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Timid Nature(+Spe,-Atk)
-Draco Meteor
-Surf
-Taunt
-U-turn

Hydreigon with expert belt is to surprise some people thinking with something else. Draco Meteor is for STAB and Surf is for coverage. Taunt is for walls that want to poison, parylyze, etc. U-turn so I can switch to a counter.

Claydol@ Light Clay
Trait: Levitate
Evs: 252 Hp/252 SpDef/4 Def
Calm Nature(+Sp Def, -Atk)
-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Rapid Spin
-Earth Power

Claydol sets up dual screens for less damage. Its immune to spikes and resistant so it’s a good spinner. Earth power is so it can at least attack something seriously. Sort of.

Arcanine@ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
Evs:4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spe
Jolly Nature(+Spe,-SAtk)
-Flare Blitz
-Wild Charge
-Close Combat
-Extreme Speed

Another physical attacker. Flare Blitz for STAB, wild charge for water types, close combat for more coverage and extreme speed for priority.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Trait:Water Absorb
Evs:252 Hp/252 Def/4 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
-Wish
-Scald
-Protect
-Roar

Vaporeon is a support pokemon that can also take hits. Wish is to restore health to itself and other pokemon especially Arcanine. Scald has a good chance to burn so that’s in instead of surf or hydro pump. Protect makes sure it gets it wish granted. Roar to switch out pokemon that might try to set up on it.

OK so this is the team I have been using. I’ve been using Pokemon Online to try this team and it went well. I won some, I lost some. It was fun. Like I said, this was my first team so there is going to be some flaws. I just need to find out how many and how serious so I can improve myself. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey there, your team looks pretty weak to Rain teams. Thundurus and Rotom-W will have no problems getting past any of your pokemon (Hydreigon can take one or two Hydro Pumps from Rotom in rain, but it can just switch out to dodge the Draco Meteor and come back again to ruin your fun). Even more Thundurus can beat every single pokemon on the team on 1 on 1 if Stealth Rocks are in play. That's why you should get a good rain check. The pokémon I have for you is a pretty good fella that will help your team dealing with almost any threats from Rain :

Gastrodon @ Leftovers / Careful / Storm Drain / 252 HP - 4 Def - 252 SpD
Surf - Recover - Toxic - Ice Beam

I recommend you to swap it for Vaporeon, since it will fit its role while giving you a Rain check.

Another thing you lack is a good Excadrill check. Even though Claydol is immune to Earthquake and resistant to Rock Slide, it is weak to X-Scissor, one of the most common of its coverage moves. Excadrill is quite the threat for your team, as nothing can whistand its moves. That is why I would change your Claydol for a Gliscor. Gliscor is a pretty cool fella, because it walls Excadrill completely. Here's a pretty good set you could use :

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb / Jolly / Poison Heal / 252 HP - 40 Atk - 216 Spe
Earthquake - Facade - Swords Dance - Protect

If you still want to keep Rapid Spin support, I suggest you to change Crustle for Forretress. Forretress is a all-in-one pokemon that can rapid spin hazards away while setting them up very well. It also resists Hydreigon's Dragon weakness while calling Fire attacks that Arcanine loves so much. You should use this set :

Forretress @ Leftovers / Relaxed / Sturdy / 252 HP - 252 Def - 4 SpD
Gyro Ball - Stealth Rock - Spikes - Rapid Spin

Just a minor change, Expert Belt is a pretty bad item choice for Hydreigon, since Draco Meteor only hits 1 type super-effectively. If you still want to bluff Choice items, try using the Dragon Fang, which will always power up your dragon move. You should also use Fire Blast instead of Taunt, since using Taunt makes it quite obvious your pokemon is not choiced.

Hope I helped.

Please, add more to your descriptions. Check other RMTs about how a proper one is setup, for the time being I will get a mod to lock this thread. Once you add enough of a description for your pokes then it will be unlocked.
