Hi, I've been playing pokemon since RBY but since the entrance of X and Y, I decided to go competitive. Because of this, I've been reading up alot on the competitive scene, about EVs, IVs, OU and different metas about the game.
At first, I tried to create a super sweeping team where almost everyone on my team is a sweeper. After a few iterations, I think the only real sweeper is Greninja. The rest of my team are pretty bulky and stally. I tried my team on Pokemon Showdown a few times, lost several times, won several times. Quite a lot of the times where i lost was due to my bad judgement. If you can pinpoint any glaring weakness for my team, please tell me and I will do my best to change it!
Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Gooey
EVs: 252 SpA, 252 HP, 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Sludge Wave
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
Goodra is my lead if the enemy has many special sweepers and my bulky special sweeper. His special defense is incredible coupled with assault vest. I use him as my special defense pivot, switching him when there's an immediate threat for special attacks. I'm thinking of switching draco meteor with dragon pulse because of accuracy issues and the special attack drop. Stuff like Greninja won't deal as much damage to me, and I can return the favour by OHKO-ing them. My perfect special wall.
Greninja @ Expert Belt
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power Fire
Greninja is my main special sweeper. Combined with expert belt, he deals insane amount of damage together with Protean's STAB. Ice Beam can deal with threats like Salamence and Garchomp easily and Hidden Power Fire for Scizor. Type coverage for Greninja is not a problem at all. I chose Surf over Hydro Pump for accuracy. The only thing bad about him is that his hp drops like a fly. If he is outsped, he's basically dead. Talonflame is an example. Brave bird drops Greninja to about 5%, in which case I use surf to OHKO Talonflame. After that, he's basically a sitting duck without any support.
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP, 184 Def, 72 Spe
Impish Nature
- Toxic
- Substitute
- Roost
- Earthquake
Gliscor is one hell of a pokemon. He's my physical wall and my staller. While others are setting up, I set my substitute up, poison them and slowly see them die while I keep on healing and stalling. He also covers my team's weakness to EQ. I like roost alot, cause if I'm outsped, the stalling is much more effective compared to using substitute and protect together. I basically heal 75% of my hp with Roost. I also have EQ for coverage against threats like Mega Mawile (She's a pain to fight against, one +2 Play Rough and my gliscor dies instantly).
Aegislash @ Air Balloon
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shadow Sneak
- King's Shield
- Sacred Sword
- Swords Dance
Aegislash's moveset to me is basically extremely solid. Swords Dance for boosting, King's Shield for some extra defense and to change back into shield forme, Sacred Sword for it's Dark and Normal type weaknesses and Shadow Sneak for everything else. The way I play Aegislash is if Aegislash doesn't die, the opponent dies. I try my luck quite often with the fire blasts and flare blitz and all and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I run Balloon on Aegislash to eliminate it's EQ weakness. That way, threats like tyranitar and garchomp would waste one turn trying to EQ me. In Garchomp's case, it would have to waste one turn to pop my balloon and then EQ me but by then I would have +3 my Aegislash. One shadow sneak would be good enough to OHKO it. Tyranitar just dies to an unboosted sacred sword.
Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Protect
- Wish
- Roar
Vaporeon is my support. Wish is good for getting back my walls up and Roar to phasing out boosts from baton passers and sweepers. I could also run vaporeon as a staller by removing Roar with Toxic, using the Wish/Protect combo. It works just like Gliscor but I think Gliscor does it more effectively. Since I already have Scald for inflicting statuses, I decided to go with this build. Vaporeon also has synergy with Forretress, whereby I send in Forretress for a red card and then heal him back.
Forretress @ Red Card
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch
Forretress is my rapid spinner and entry hazard setter. Forretress can be my lead sometimes also. With sturdy, I could at least either cast out one level of stealth rock and toxic spikes before dying. With red card and sturdy, Forretress can also be used as a pivot to clear out boosted targets. I could then just wish his hp back. Other than that, it's the usual forretress build. I wanted to run custap Forretress but unfortunately I don't think it's available in X/Y, So I would try this build instead.
So that's basically my team. I would really appreciate your critique on my team and feel free to give opinions and suggestions on how I should improve my team.
