SS Doubles OU First DOU Team: Psychic Terrain Spam

Hawlucha @ Psychic Seed
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab
- Swords Dance
Hawlucha is a natural terrain abuser and is a good check to sand and dark types that are immune to expanding force. It works well with indeedee, getting swords dances while it takes hits. And it fills the spot of a physical attacker on a mostly special team

Ribombee @ Focus Sash
Ability: Sweet Veil
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Speed Swap
- Dazzling Gleam
- Ally Switch
- Helping Hand
When initially building this team, my main plan was to do speed swap hatterene, but ribombee also works quite well with gardevoir giving it the speed if necessary, and with its ally switch mindgames

Hatterene (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Expanding Force
- Dazzling Gleam
- Mystical Fire
- Protect
The Main Sweeper of the team. Combined with indeedee or ribombee support it is almost unstoppable and can ohko many mons with expanding force. Quiet nature is to counter other trick rooms or work together with gardevoir for an emergency trick room

Indeedee-F (F) @ Terrain Extender
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Expanding Force
- Dazzling Gleam
- Helping Hand
- Follow Me
Naturally a psychic terrain team needs a terrain setter. Indeedee’s main role is to get terrain set up and to keep it up. Even then, its expanding force is still quite a force to be reckoned with.

Gardevoir @ Focus Sash
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Imprison
- Expanding Force
- Dazzling Gleam
- Trick Room
Gardevoir serves as a direct counter to other psychic terrain teams and trick room teams. It can also clean up very well lategame if terrain is still up. If needed, it can work with hatterene to set up its own mini 2 mon trick room duo.

Dragapult @ Life Orb
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Darts
- Phantom Force
- Psychic Fangs
Dragapult might be the most out of place mon on the whole team. The real reason it is on the team is I was losing to cinderace and pult fairly consistently and I needed an answer with enough speed to shut them down. Pult also serves as a secondary physical attacker so I dont just lose the moment hawlucha goes down.

Hey dude. I'm sorry to say but unless I do a full revamp, your team is probably not competitively viable in the current metagame. Hatterene is really only usable on FullRoom teams where it acts as the primary Trick Room setter with Magic Bounce and follow me support. I don't think Hawlucha is viable at all. There are plenty of over better pokemon that matchup well against Darks: Urshifu, Sylveon, Weezing-Galar, Togekiss, etc. Ribombee is somewhat interesting. It's seen success in Doubles UU, but there are better support pokemon in Doubles OU such as Togekiss, Blastoise, Amoonguss, etc. Gardevoir seems just like a budget Alakazam. DD Dragapult could be cool, but as you said, it seems really out of place in this team.

There are two ways I can try to help. We can scrap this team altogether and I can help you build a competitive PsySpam team. Or, if you really want to use this group of 6 mons, I can help you fix out the sets. Keep in mind however, even with updated sets, this team probably wouldn't be very good. Just let me know and I'd be glad to help. Take care!

Alright, so Hawlucha was used 2x in Grand Finals of the latest Seasonal and Urshifu was just banned so I'm willing to revist your team and try to make it work.

This is how I currently see your team: PsySpam Core + Hawlucha + 2 Support options. I'm going to go one by one in this order and give some suggestions I think can make the team better.

:sm/indeedee-f:
I like the idea of a support-oriented set but I have a few suggestions. First off, Terrain Extender isn't the best item because Rillaboom is super common to cancel your terrain and you often you can switch out and then back in to reset the terrain. Sitrus Berry is probably the best item here to help maintain longevity. Furthermore, you should use Protect over Dazzling Gleam. I know you'll be walled by Darks, but Protect allows you to scout out moves, avoid double teams, stall out field conditions and keep yourself healthy. Plus, your other teammates will be able to take care of Darks.
Indeedee-F (F) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Expanding Force
- Helping Hand
- Follow Me
- Protect

:sm/gardevoir:
Like I said earlier, Gardevoir really seems like a discount Alakazam. If you want to continue using Gardevoir, that's okay of course, but I would definitely switch to Alakazam. It hits harder and is a lot faster, and can still hit Darks with Dazzling Gleam. Alakazam also has Magic Bounce which lets it avoid damage from Life Orb and potential Stealth Rocks. Indeedee + Alakazam is one of the most potent PsySpam combinations and I think it can really work here. However, I'm willing to stick with Gardevoir since you seem to like it. I get what you're trying to do, Imprison away Expanding Force + Trick Room, but I think a straight up damage dealing set will be better. You definitely want a Psychic Terrain abuser which Gardevoir should be able to do. With Choice Scarf, you're pretty quick and Expanding Force will do a ton of damage in Psychic Terrain. I gave it a spread and single target STAB option in case you run into Wide Guard or really want to hit one opponent.
Gardevoir @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Expanding Force
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic

:sm/hatterene: :sm/alakazam:
Seems you really want a second Psychic Terrain abuser user, so I would suggest using Alakazam instead. It hits just as hard, and you don't have to set-up Trick Room or use Speed Swap in order to go first. Indeedee-F + Alakazam is usually a pretty solid lead since you can click Expanding Force + Helping Hand / Follow Me while outspeeding almost everything in the tier. I like using Substitute as the last move since you don't really need Steel coverage since Steels aren't that common.
Alakazam @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Expanding Force
- Dazzling Gleam
- Substitute
- Protect

:sm/hawlucha:
Hawlucha time! The only thing I would change is Poison Jab --> Protect. Acrobatics will hit Fairies hard enough, while Protect is one of the best moves in Doubles as I talked about before. You could also try Rock Slide instead of Swords Dance to hit Volcarona (through redirection) but I do like Swords Dance and you should use it if you like it.

:sm/ribombee:
Just some small changes here. I would definitely use Tailwind > Speed Swap just to give your entire team a speed boost. You'll also want to keep the bee's high speed so it can continue giving solid support. I would also use Pollen Puff over Dazzling Gleam. With Urshifu's ban, spread fairy moves aren't as needed, and Pollen Puff can be used to heal your teammates. It's also 90 BP STAB so it should be able to do some damage.

:sm/dragapult:
You said you weren't a fan, but I think Dragapult can work just because you need something strong to power through Gothitelle and Necrozma. I would recommend using a Choice Band set instead of DD for immediate damage. It also does well against Trick Room setters with strong Ghost STAB.
Dragapult @ Choice Band
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 SpA
- Dragon Darts
- Phantom Force
- U-turn
- Dragon Claw

Sorry for the wait, and I hope this helps! Here's the updated team: https://pokepast.es/e800f0757dd4528f
