I created this team on my DS and it did fairly well on wi-fi battles and decided to graduate it to Shoddy as my first official team! I have a fairly good record with it of 10-2 on shoddy, one loss being from a last turn crit on my Tar. I've come across a few problems even on some of the wins, but I don't know what to change without messing up the whole team. Here's a quick view of the construction of the team (I received some help in the building process):
This is not the order of the team.
I started out wanting to use an interesting Tyranitar set I saw on the analysis, the curse set.
Curse/Rest/Sleep Talk/Payback
The potential of last pokemon sweep with this thing is fucking AWESOME, and since I love me some Tyranitar and I had used all the other sets (aside from choice specs lol) I started off with it. Now this thing doesn't really want to reveal it's plan very early in the game, and imo needs to be the last pokemon to sweep. Seeing this I decided to go with a crippling entry hazard team, and with that I added this which covers many of Tyranitars physical threats and sets up some hazard (while spinning which is always nice):
Rapid Spin/Toxic Spikes/Explosion/Gyro Ball
Ahh this thing. Scizor can't even really dent it, but Forry can't do anythingIt does set up TS though which is reeeeally nice, covers a lot of physical threats, and Gyro Ball does decent damage on a lot of things. Having these two sturdy pokemon is really nice, but I had no lead, and I sometimes forget to make one when constructing a team so I busted out my favorite lead:
Earthquake/Ice Beam/Stealth Rock/Roar
My god this thing is one of my favorites since ADV. Adding stealth rock to it's already large arsenal only strengthened our love life. Roar shuffling is cool, and works because a lot of things switch when they see swampy come in, so I just roar for the double entry damage x). At a quick glance nothing can switch in to things like Lucario/Scizor and scare them enough for them to switch or get hurt. I also only had one phazer which is usually fine, but if I'm trying to do a lot of damage with SR and TS I needed more than one. After some help from some reliable people I decided to use this:
Rest/Sleep Talk/Roar/Waterfall
Counters a shit load of physical sweepers with intimidate, phazes effectively, and absorbs status when Tyranitar doesn't want to switch in. I overlooked these four pokemon and saw that it really had NO offense. At all. I could easily get stalled out (and I did a few times before I made this final version) so I added an amazing threat:
Swords Dance/Extremespeed/Close Combat/Stone Edge
Everyone knows and fears Lucario. It resists some wonderful things (pursuit rock attacks etc) and sets up on them. But we all knew that/ I don't think this dood needs much of an explanation. Now I had 4 sturdy pokemon, 2 with setup hazards, 2 phazers, 2 status absorbers, and 1 physical sweeper, but it was missing something...
Draco Meteor/Surf/Thunderbolt/Trick
My team like any other, hates Pokemon who have already set up. Revenge/Tricks them. :)
Final Team in order:
Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 240 HP/238 Def/16 SAtk/16 SDef
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Roar
- Stealth Rock
Great bulky lead as I've already stated sets up rocks on almost anything and then does heavy damage/roars them out. I've been using Ice Beam so no dragon will set up on him and Gliscor, but Hydro Pump looks sexy as well for Hippo and such. Counters a lot of leads, and if it doesn't I set up rocks anyway and switch it out.
Grass moves are sent to either Latias or Forre.
Metagross: Usually I'll stealth rock right away and it will set up rocks. After that I will usually throw him at Forre to throw out some TS since I don't want it exploding on my beloved Swampy who counters so much.
Azelf: I'll usually switch to Lati and attack, attack, attack.
Infernape: It Fake Out's then dies quickly. Not much of a threat since I don't think many lead apes run Grass Knot.
Jirachi: I'll switch to Latias for fear of a trick first, and if I predict it correctly I'll attack with Lati until it switches. I just hope it doesn't U-Turn for a lot of damage x(. Kind of a problem since I don't like trick.
Aerodactyl: I'll 2hko with Ice Beam while they Taunt me or something. Not a problem since Forre will spin away SR anyway.
Swampert: We both set up SR then I switch in Lati on the EQ/Hydro Pump and attack, then after maybe trick it to make it useless.
Tyranitar: I usually just go for the damage and EQ it. Haven't run into many TTar problems with swampy. That's why I don't want it to die either. D:
Heatran: EQ since I haven't run into one with HP Grass on the lead.
Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/114 Atk/144 Def
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Gyro Ball
- Explosion
Comes in on the countless Scizors and sets up TS while RSing as well, once their main spiker/ts/sr pokemon is down I'll blow it up on something, hopefully getting me a nice kill.
Fire is usually sent to:
Swampert first especially if SR is still up, Latias has no recovery, Gyara is waiting for Lucario, and TTar is biding it's time. Gyara does come out however if they send in Infernape.
Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 6 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Extremespeed
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
I don't know if to use Stone Edge, Crunch, or Ice Punch. All seem good to me, but I'm sticking to Stone Edge for now. Usually a mid-game sweeper since I want Tyranitar taking away the late game. It's amazing how many people don't have an answer to it. Jolly is superior to adamant imo just because it outspeeds certain things. (neutral base 100's/other Lucario) Sets up on many, many moves. Sometimes I don't even get to use half of my team if this thing can get an SD in and the opponent can't outspeed/doesn't have a reliable resist. Only brought out when I see an opportunity to set up or when I need an Extremespeed kill though.
Fire has been explained.
Ground usually ends up going to Gyara/Latias or even Forre so he can set up.
Fighting Gyara/Forre. Usually Gyara since intimidate is such a gangster ability.
Latias (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Trick
Revenge kills, tricks, buttfucks things, you name it. I guess timid is overkill, so I might start using Modest since it kind of lacks firepower. I've also considered HP Fire because of all the Scizor that come in and just Pursuit it :(.
Ghost goes to Forre, if special TTar, same with dark.
Dragon is usually the one getting revenge killed.
Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP/224 Def/34 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Roar
Ahahaha neverdiesrados. Survives soo much and counters a few things. Forces switches, phazes etc etc. My only [reliable] fight resist, and if it gets walled by Vappy/Celebi it just RAWRS lol. A crucial team member imo.
Electric goes to Lati/Tyranitar, usually Lati though.
Rock goes to Luke who can set up on it if it's CB/CS thanks to it's 4x resist. Or it goes to Swampert who just kills most rocks.
Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/42 Def/216 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Payback
Hehehehehe... The dreaded last pokemon >:D. Barring a Haze/Perish Song, or Gengar who doesn't even OHKO (but then something else can come in for the kill, or it might *gasp* miss with FB) this thing usually finishes games. I usually try to get rid of any pokemon I see who can threaten it before I let it loose into the world, and it does it's job wonderfully. Cripple waters, strong special attackers who might 3hko or something with my above strategy of entry hazards/phazing and Lucario and finally unleash it. Tyranitar is my favorite for a reason. :) Last turn crit weak though. >_____>
Fighting has been explained, and is one of my only worries after a curse or two.
SOOOO that's my team. Please rate it and help me make it better. :) Oh and...
Offensive Threat List:
Abomasnow: Cancel it with Sandstorm then Gyro Ball with Forre til it dies?
Aerodactyl: Explained above since most lead, Swampert eats it alive.
Alakazam: Tyranitar.
Azelf: Kind of a problem since I don't know what to do against it. Forre comes in against Psychic/Explosion, but if it has Flamethrower ughhhh. Latias fears explosion.
Breloom: Gyarados handles it extremely well. Intimidate is a powerful weapon.
Crobat: Latias, Forre, Tyranitar, although nothing likes getting super fang.
Dragonite: Swampert, Latias revenge kills it.
Dugtrio: Is there a counter to a trap?
Empoleon: I've faced about three and while it sets up and kills me I end up ES'ing it with Lucario so at most it's killed one of my Pokemon.
Flygon: Most are choiced so Latias does well, as does Forre.
Gallade: I've never fought one, but I'd probably go with Gyarados.
Gengar: Forre, Tyranitar.
Gyarados: If it has Stone Edge it's a problem since I can't just phaze it with my Gyara. I try to phaze it until entry hazard damage kills it or I can ES it with Lucario.
Heatran: Latias is good for maybe two switch ins as is swampert. And Gyarados.
Heracross: Gyarados, Forre.
Infernape: Gyarados.
Jirachi: Another problematic pokemon. I don't really know how to handle it until I know it's moveset. If it's CM I hope it doesn't have Grass Knot and I swampert it or Tyranitar it.
Jolteon: Swampert, if Hp Grass my Latias will outspeed.
Kingdra: Revenge is my best option if it locks into outrage.
Latias: Tyranitar, Latias.
Lucario: GYARADOS. If it has stone edge it gets a little trickier, but I really try to not let it set up.
Machamp: I would go with Gyara yet again, but the stupid confusion thing. I haven't faced one though.
Magnezone: It traps then blows, don't have much of a counter.
Metagross: Swampert does well against almost all sets, unless they have wooden arm or whatever it's called. If it does, Gyara handles it well.
Porygon-Z: Lucario revenges it or switches in and kills it.
Raikou: SUB i'll switch to ttar and start up my storm. payback til death.
Rhyperior: Latias if the storm isn't up, otherwise Gyara.
Salamence: Revenge is my best option, unless it locks itself then Forre/Lucario.
Scizor: ugh I can't really kill Scizor and it kills off my Latias ALL THE TIME. Aside from Latias though it's not much of a threat. I considered Magnezone because of him so Tyranitar wouldn't have to worry about it.
Staraptor: I'll try to predict around it mostly. Forre/gyara
Starmie: Problematic. Most strong water stab is to my team.
Tyranitar: Swampert handles almost all sets, forre can too if it doesn't have fire punch.
Defensive Threat List:
Blissey: Trick it. I don't have many special attackers so I don't fear it much.
Celebi: This thing scares me because it can perish song my TTar. I also have no good way to kill it. I can trick it i guess, but other than that idk. I consider Crunch Luke because of it.
Cresselia: Set up on it. Trick it, Explode.
Foretress: You know what's the new wobba v wobba? Forre v Forre. I can't really kill it, but I'm not scared of it.
Gliscor: Gyarados will roar the sd set and so will swampert, or theyll just attack it for heavy damage.
Hippowdon: Toxic Spikes damage, Latias surf, Gyarados.
Skarmory: Lucario sets up, so does forre and swampert, Gyara roars it for shuffling, and Tyranitar won't care because it will be last.
Snorlax: I honestly have never seen one. Poor fatman took such a hard hit this gen :'(
Suicune: Trick it, cripple it, problematic though. If it's the last pokemon D:D:D:D:D:
Swampert: I've never really had a problem with it.
Tentacruel: I've never faced one, but I would probably go with attacking it with Latias/Gyara.
Vaporeon: Trick is my best option, and Toxic Spikes.
Zapdos: A defensive Toxic one basically beat my whole team once, but I didn't play it right when I could have tricked it. Otherwise TTar.
This is my second attempt at a RMT here, but I actually put effort into this one. Tell me if anything is wrong so I won't get locked D:.
And please critique and help!
