First Gen 6 Team... Please help~

Hallo, peoples! Just testing out an awkward/new team here. I'm not very skilled when it comes to making teams, so I'm sure this thing has MAAAAANY glaring holes it in.

The thing is, it acts the same as any team I seem to use. There are times when I obliterate everything in my path and get a ton of forfeits, then there are times when I get 6-0'ed by the opponent. :\ Anyway, here's the team.

Kyuureki (Ampharos) (F) @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Dragon Pulse
- Agility
- Focus Blast

The star of the show. My main goal, if possible, is to get her set up, then proceed a sweep. A Modest Mega Ampharos with max Speed investment actually outspeeds a +Speed Greninja after Agility. Thunderbolt and Dragon Pulse are given STAB, and Focus Blast is there for Steels, Tyranitar, etc. I've considered Power Gem as well, but then Pokemon like Ferrothron wall her.

Halcon (Sableye) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spd
Careful Nature
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Foul Play
- Knock Off

My hidden gem, so to speak. This thing eats up so many attacks, and Will-O-Wisp lets him survive on both sides. Surprisingly, no Taunt. I run Knock Off instead because it does nice damage to frail Pokemon (can 2HKO some like Galvantula) as well as removing their item. Actually surprisingly effective against Leftovers users and Gliscor, if I can knock off his Toxic Orb fast enough. Plus it catches a lot of people by surprise~

I've been considering running full physical bulk (Impish?), but the mixed bulk is more versatile. Not sure...

Pae (Greninja) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Water Shuriken
- Rock Slide
- Night Slash
- U-turn

My physical sweeper, of sorts. VERY uncommon and never suspected. The idea is to get some Passed Attack boosts to help out, if possible. Even without Attack boosts, Water Shuriken can sometimes 2HKO a Talonflame after Stealth Rocks, if I did my math correctly. The other moves are for coverage. I get mixed use from this guy... I have to use prediction, which I suck at. xD

Also, I'm not even sure if those are optimal moves for a Physical Greninja. Power-Up Punch just seems a tad risky, but could be useful.

smeargle_by_mypokemans-d472j1n.png

Mandy (Smeargle) (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Sticky Web
- Spore
- King's Shield

Typical suicide lead. Switched Magic Coat for King's Shield, though I'm not sure which one I would want more. Spore is nice for hazards, and if lucky, can make the next guy's job easier if I get extra Sleep turns.

pokeddex_scolipede_by_amorphous_blob-d5n51ei.png

Altaroth (Scolipede) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Baton Pass
- Swords Dance
- Protect
- Iron Defense

A full-on support Baton Passer. Defense is good for anyone against physical threats, and Swords Dance is for Scizor and Greninja. Speed helps a lot, and is meant for Ampharos to make her job simpler. Plus the Iron Defense helps Mega-Amphy's natural bulk. If only I had mixed defenses to pass... Would be perfect for Amphy, or anyone, really.

Scizor_in_The_Sky_by_HolySaintDragon.png

Nightmare (Scizor) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Swords Dance
- U-turn
- Thief

My backup sweeper. Helps if my Baton Passes fail to work. Standard set, too... Been thinking of putting Baton Pass somewhere in here, since sometimes when using Scolipede, the opponent threatens to kill Amphy on the switch. If I can have Scizor take out the threat, I can change over to Amphy easier. All of Scolipede's boosts help here.

Like I said, a ton of holes. I have mixed results, but I really like this team. If anyone can recommend any improvements, I'd be more than willing to test them out. Though there are some Pokemon here I would not be willing to get rid of, like Ampharos and Sableye, primarily.

Thanks for the help, you guys! I really appreciate it! :D

Hello.

Pretty interesting team you have here I like the use of Mega Ampharos so props to you on that.Few issues I see is that you lack a fire move and your lack of Special Attackers as you only have one so to help remedy that I recommend you try out Assault Vest Goodra over your Sableye as I think it would benefit you more and Goodra is super super bulky on the special side which can helps against Greninjas, and other special attackers.Amd helps to take on Ferrothorn which walls you to no end if your Mega Ampharos is down. Having Goodra makes you take on Ferrothorn relatively safer. And with Sap Sipper Ferrothorn won't bother Leech Seeding you.

I recommend you run Roost over U-Turn as setting up then U-Turn out is kind of redundant as doing that will make you lose your boosts and the Swords Dances you setted up just to hit and run is not really very good. And you get recovery which has great synergy with Life Orb.

I aso suggest you run Mental Herb over Black Sludge on Scolipede so you can escape from Taunt users such as Sableye which can completely shut down Scolipede. And you could run an attacking move (Preferably Megahorn) over either Protect or Iron Defense as your current set is very propense to Taunt.

Rock Slide and Water Shuriken are redundant on Greninja so in my opinion I think you should try out Power Up Punch over Rock Slide as you can already hit Talonflame with Water Shuriken which completely makes Rock Slide unnecessary.

Sets:
Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability:Sap Sipper
EV's:252 SAtk / 252 SDef / 4 HP or 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
IV's: 0 Atk
Calm/Modest Nature
-Dragon Pulse
-Flamethrower
-Sludge Wave
-Thunderbolt/Surf

So I hope my suggestions were helpful or at least thought-provoking.

It was an honor rating your team! Good Luck! :toast:

Props to you for using Mega Ampharos. Most people really bash Mega Ampharos for its low speed and impracticality, what people would define as a "waste of a mega slot". I'd suggest running Superpower on Scizor, just so you can safely go through Magnezone and Heatran. King's shield seems like a pretty cool move to use on Smeargle, but I'd honestly opt for Magic Coat. Smeargle is such a common lead that your opponent will probably have a few ways to shut it down, Taunt being one of them. I also agree with the user above, Scolipede really does need an attacking move, Megahorn would be your best bet since it gets a 120 BP STAB move.

You're probably going to want to include something that resists ground moves, or is immune to ground in your team, seeing how all of your Pokemon are hit for at least neutral damage by ground moves. The same can be said about rock types; your team basically has issues with the edgequake combo, which is fairly common.
You could replace Greninja with:
562.png

Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Nature: Careful/Adamant (Adamant if you really want some more power lol)
-Ice Punch
-Knock Off
-Mach Punch
-Drain Punch/Poison Jab

Assault Vest Conkeldurr is a bulky utility that will definitely benefit your team. Guts makes it a great status absorber and boosts its Atk stat; your opponent will definitely regret status-ing you. It can take hits on both the physical and special side, as well as crippling your opponent with Knock off. Ice Punch is to deal with Landorus-I, Landorus-T and Gliscor, some common Conkeldurr switch ins. Mach punch lets Conkeldurr bypass its low speed and it's always nice to have priority. The choice between Drain Punch and Poison Jab is up to you: Drain Punch is Conkeldurr's main form of recovery, which complements the AV set nicely, while Poison Jab is there to take Fairy switch ins by surprise.

You could also replace Smeargle with:
683.png

Landorus-T @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 172 Def / 88 Spe
Nature: Naive
- Stealth Rock
- U-Turn
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power Ice/ Superpower/ Stone Edge

Landorus-T is a great bulky pivot and Stealth Rock Setter, it also isn't death fodder like Smeargle, benefiting your team immensely. It's a great switch in to many offensive threats and has a few perks over Gliscor. U-turn lets you scout your opponent's team while maintaining offensive momentum on your side, Earthquake is Landorus-T's main STAB option that hits like a truck even if uninvested. As for the last slot, it all depends on what your team needs: Hidden Power Ice takes care of Gliscor, Garchomp and Landorus-T switch ins, Superpower lets you hit Ferrothorn while Stone Edge is an alternative coverage option.

Both of the above pokemon also benefit from Scolipede baton passing, which further reinforces your team's offensive synergy.

Thanks for the replies, you two! ^^" I appreciate it! And I'm glad Mega Ampharos is being appreciated too, even just a little bit. She's a great example of a slow Pokemon done right. The metagame doesn't need to be 100% about Speed. :P Plus, she's just way too strong!

I'll test out the tips you give here. I was kind of iffy about using U-Turn on Scizor since my team does play around with the boosts a lot, and U-Turn is somewhat counter-intuitive. I mainly kept it for the power and getting out of situations, but I'll try out Roost as well. It would work greatly with Life Orb, so that should help.

As for Scolipede's item, I'll test that out as well. Black Sludge was just kind of my go-to item for him, and I wasn't sure what else could benefit him a lot. I'll try and fit in Megahorn as well, thought it will take some testing, since Protect and Iron Defense have been great helps. Plus, I haven't had a lot of Taunt troubles so far, but we'll see.

Lastly, I'm very hesitant when it comes to replacing Sableye... Not just because I love Sableye, but because he has been an integral part of the team! He threatens every non-Fire-Type physical Pokemon or anything that doesn't want a Burn, Foul Play nets some nice hits, and Knock Off is unexpected and ruins some Pokemon's strategy. I'll consider it, but he's one member I'd rather keep if possible.

Acedia
I'll test out that 4th move for Smeargle and see which one seems to help out more. As for Scolipede, I will definitely add in Megahorn, though I'm not sure what to take out...

Also, I failed to mention this before, but this is actually not a PokeBank team! Though that doesn't mean I won't use PokeBank Pokemon at all. I guess when building the team, I was more focused on what I could actually make in-game as well, right now. Besides, I'm not sure what moves I'd switch out for Superpower on Scizor right now... Regardless, I'll try out a few of these. I'm sure I could find some nice ways to bring them in, if possible!

Now, on a final note... You guys mentioned how I only have one Special sweeper (in Mega-Amphy). I've been considering changing Greninja over to a special one, since not only would that give me access to the likes of Ice Beam, but I could also grab HP Fire, which would help out my team quite a bit. I mean, I'm mainly using a physical one because of the surprise value, plus the fact that physical Greninja is not half bad. The only downside being that Greninja would lose out of Scolipede support almost completely, except possibly Defense and Speed, the latter of which he has plenty of on his own.

Hey there,

I don't have time for a long rate right now, so I'll just point out one thing.

I personally think that Mega Alakazam would be a good replacement for Mega Ampharos. Even though it has no physical bulk whatsoever, it can come in on many threats because of Trace (Poison Heal Alakazam anyone?). It has more speed and firepower than a Agility Ampharos, making it much easier to sweep.

Keep in mind that it is just my opinion. Feel free to ignore it.

Hope I helped!

BackStreetTabby
Thank you! While I admit I would love to test out Mega Alakazam someday, I made this team specifically for Mega Ampharos. I usually pick a Pokemon I like and work with that for each team, and I've wanted to use Mega Ampharos since it was announced. ^^;;
