Before we begin, I am new to Pokémon Showdown, and competitive Pokémon battling as a whole. I remember enjoying some of the older games, but never really beat any. My buddy recently got me hooked on cobblemon, and this has sparked my interest in performing better in battles against some of these RCT NPC's.
This team is Mono-Bug because I like bug types. Something about challenging myself to use a weaker type, and how they all look cool just mixes well for me.
Without further ado, these Pokémon are basically just copy pastes from the recomended sets for them, so this is more me trying to relay my understandings of how this team functions. Any guidance on my strategy would be nice, as the descriptions will have the why's in particular.
Araquanid @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Water Bubble
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Sticky Web
- Liquidation
- Infestation
- Mirror Coat
My lead for the battle to set Sticky Web. HD-Boots for when I need to bring them back in to reset web. Liquidation because it has been deemed a powerful STAB option for the Mon. Mirror Coat is a nice counter that I've seen a lot of successful use after Web Setting. I am not skilled enough to understand/use Infestation to succes yet.
Scizor @ Metal Coat
Ability: Technician
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Close Combat
- Dual Wingbeat
My personal Favorite Pokémon on this team. This is my go to sweep Mon. Dual Wingbeat, and Close Combat are mostly here to cover Type weaknesses from my understanding. Usually a Swords Dance and His high speed is enough to get through most things I've encountered.
Kleavor @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sharpness
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Axe
- Night Slash
- U-turn
- Close Combat
Kleavor is my answer to Fire- Flying- types. He is here to only hit hard and fast, then usually imidiately swap. His moves etc is also to cover some more type holes, and close Combat is here incase I lose Scizor.
Forretress @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Gyro Ball
- Volt Switch
A decent Wall. I personally dont know how to use him well. His Gyro Ball slams really hard when I need it to, Spikes are spammed when I get into a slow vs slow wall match up. Voltswitch to get out One of my Sweepers safely. Rapid Spin to remove other Hazards.
Frosmoth @ Leftovers
Ability: Ice Scales
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Quiver Dance
- Giga Drain
- Ice Beam
My SpD / SpA mon. This is also my Answer to anything weaker to Ice. I usually Sub, Quiver, and Drain/I've Beam. Unsure really how to capitalize off this Mon.
Lokix @ Life Orb
Ability: Tinted Lens
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- First Impression
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
Yet another sweep Mon. First Impression hits hard, surprises me a lot. Sucker Punch and Knock Off fill in for damage mostly. Tinted Lens is just a bonus, and really helps when Swords Dance hits.

There you have it. Hope my understandings of this competitive Nature team is more or less correct, and hope things are put together nicely. I've been having good success so far in my few matches, but it feels like my team could function infinitely better with a different pilot in the seat.
