First OU RMT

Introduction:

Well I've decided to make my first OU RMT after a while testing on shoddy. This has been my best team so far (52-25.) Looking for some help improving it, although I may just need to get more familiar with the game as I've only played ~200 battles on shoddy. Anyways, here's my team, it's fairly balanced although it's really leaning more offensively now.

Changes will be in Bold & Red.

The Lead

swampert.png

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 6 SpA
Nature: Relaxed
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

The basic lead mixpert. It has been very sturdy addition to the team. I tried other more offensive leads but in the end Swampert proved more reliable. Often gets stealth rock down as it 2HKOs Aerodactyl with Ice Beam. I usually have to switch out on Azelf though sometimes I stay in as many people are dropping explosion since it's so predictable. Ice beam allows it to come in after something else has died and OHKO salamence most of the time. Looking at putting some more SpA on it to guarantee the KO w/o SR damage. Earthquake is my stab and really my best chance against Kingdra. Roar is good as I have no phazer and it allows allows my to nullify the stat boosts of lead ninjasks.

Restalker/Tank

machamp.png

Machamp @ Leftovers
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 Spd
Nature: Adamant
- Dynamic Punch
- Stone Edge
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Restalk allows it to take spores from breloom although if it subs the first turn it can be a problem. Smeargle isn't really a problem as after I take the spore I can switch to scizor to prevent it from baton passing an ingrain. Dynamic Punch is an obvious STAB, and nobody likes confusion, even if it resists it. Gyarados is a common switch in though Stone Edge generally let's me come out on top along with confusion. I rarely use rest although it is useful to prevent me from being toxic stalled. Machamp usually takes down 1-2 pokemon and causes big problems for the other team.

Physical Wall

rotomheat.png

Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 Spd
Nature: Bold
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Overheat
- Will-o-Wisp

I orginally had Zapdos here, though the only real advantage it has is roost which I was hard pressed to find a time to use. It serves as a good counter to Gyarados as they normally switch it in on Heatran and DD on the switch. It can take a waterfall then OHKO back with Thunderbolt. The only problem is a flinch or a critical hit which is really annoying. Shadow Ball hits ground types such as Rhyperior after I've wow'd them which allows me to win 1v1 on them. Overheat allows me to counter scizor/forretress/lucario (not carrying crunch.) Will-o-Wisp cripples things switching in like Tyranitar and is what I usually use when faced with scizor as even if it uses pursuit, it won't do much damage.

Special Attacker

heatran.png

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Nature: Naive
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Explosion
- HP Ice

Great pokemon overall, and it's typing covers many of my teams weaknesses. 4x resistance to grass covers Swampert, 4x resistance to ice covers Salamence, and Flash Fire gives me a boost to handle fire attacks aimed at scizor. Outside of that, I've considered making it a subtran as it causes a lot of switches, but I'd lose the ability to come in on a fire attack from infernape and OHKO w/ Earth Power, as most Infernapes stay in. Prediction is a pain as if the enemy doesn't carry a Heatran of their own they normally have a good fire resist. Earth Power is easy to switch out of and I rarely use explosion. Outside of that, HP ice allows me to revenge kill Salamence, (assuming it hasn't DD'ed) Flygon (if it isn't Scarfed) and pretty much all Gliscor. Pretty happy with it due to it's high stats and useful resistances, but if you can find another way to cover these I would try it.

Physical Attacker

scizor.png

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
Nature: Adamant
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit
- X-Scissor

Well it's the most popular OU pokemon and my team carries one two. Really pretty happy with it, bullet punch is very powerful and allows is to 2HKO pretty much everything (including Salamence) that doesn't resist it. It can also revenge kill many weakened opponents. Superpower is there to KO Blissey/Snorlax who for some reason normally stay in (maybe expecting pursuit.) Pursuit is for ghosts/psychics switching out, and drives Gengar users crazy by thinking bullet punch or pursuit? I usually bullet punch as many carry HP fire now and they know it has pursuit, however I make some exceptions. X-Scissor is there over U-turn as I never really used U-turn. It also allows me to handle Cresselia better and provides a 120 BP move w/o using superpower which lowers my stats. Consirdering moving the EVs from HP to Spd to allow me to 2HKO Rotom. I don't take many hits with Scizor anyways.

Late Game Sweeper

salamence.png

Salamence @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 232 Atk / 24 SpA / 252 Spd
Nature: Naive
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast

Salamence is a pretty good late game sweeper on my team, though I could replace him as he hasn't really been spectacular. I rarely get the chance to DD surprisingly so I may be playing him wrong. Anyways, Outrage provides a huge STAB that after a DD and once their team has been scouted for steel-types destroys their entire team. Earthquake provides good damage if I don't want to lock into DD, and Fire Blast prevents Skarmory/Bronzong from walling the set. I used naive to get a better chance to avoid speed ties vs. other Salamences, though I normally go to Heatran/Swampert first. Outside of that not much to say about Salamence.

Conclusion:

Well that's about it for my team, please post any suggestions. I'm open to most changes, although I do like Swampert & Machamp on this team. Rotom-H has been good too but I could replace him. Oh and if anyone can think of a good way to get a grass move in here please post it as it would be helpful. Credit for the six pictures above goes to http://www.arkeis.com/pokemonfactory.htm

Threat List:

If I ever get around to it I'll put it here, but for right now my hands hurt lol (I haven't typed this much in a while, but I'll have to start for school.)

Ok, a very serious problem I see is specially based MixApe. They usually carry Flamethrower, HP Ice, Grass Knot and Close Combat. Your team is extremely weak to it, so I suggest you make a change here. Tentacruel is by far the best counter to Infernape.

Tentacruel@ Black Sludge
Liquid Ooze
Calm nature (+Sp. Defense, -Attack)
252 HP/120 Defense/136 Sp. Defense

Surf
HP Electric
Rapid Spin
Toxic Spikes

Surf is your STAB move here, while HP Electric nails Gyarados and provides decent coverage. Rapid Spin provides you with some Spin support to help Salamence out, and Toxic Spikes wear down Blissey and whatnot. If I had to replace any member of your team, I would replace Swampert, and switch Heatran to the lead role.

Heatran@ Shuca Berry
Flash Fire
Naive nature (+Speed, -Sp. Defense
4 HP/252 Sp. Attack/252 Speed

Fire Blast
Stealth Rock
Earth Power
Explosion

There you go! Fire Blast is your STAB move, while Stealth Rock is there for obvious reasaons. Earth Power is your coverage move, while Explosion KO's Blissey.

Hope I helped, and Good Luck!

Will try it, I may just put tentacruel in place of Rotom-H because I would like to save Heatran for later in the game but tentacruel eliminates my grass weakness so I may be less dependent on it. Also, I've been seeing more of Leadape instead of mixape, and they normally don't carry grass knot. I can also revenge kill mixape with Heatran, but if it's down I see that it could sweep my team.

Solid team, just a few minor things. First off, if you keep it, Protect over Roar on your Swampert. This will help you scout random Tricks and Explosions, as well as a giving you a little extra healing. Secondly, U-turn over X-Scissor on your Scizor. It's not a big power drop off, and it will also help scout your opponents team.

The last change I'd suggest is changing your Salamence to a standard MixMence. This will help you break through teams a lot easier, as it doesn't require any setup to start doing damage.

Salamence@ Life Orb
Rash
80 Atk/ 252 SpA/ 176 Spe
Draco Meteor/ Fire Blast/ Brick Break/ Roost

Good Luck!

I would consider switching your Rotom to a ResTalk variant so that if Gyarados decides to Waterfall on the switch, then switch out, you're not left with a large chunk of irreversible damage on your only real Gyarados counter. Discharge combined with Will-o-wisp will really cover everything you need to cover with your Rotom as Heatrans switching in will hate to be paralyzed, and Metagross/Scizor/etc will be completely crippled. ResTalk allows you to heal off any damage that you take switching into various Pokemon, and still be able to sponge off more damage. Machamp is a good check to Gyarados, but can't switch in on it, seeing as Jolly LO Waterfall is a 2hko 99% of the time (52.6% is the min amount of damage, which, if rounded up, is a 2hko).

If you're up against something like Rhyperior, you will still win if you hit them with Will-o-wisp, since it won't be able to defeat you in the turns you are sleeping (if it is choiced, you can just switch to the appropriate Pokemon to deal with it).

Also, here is an Oven Rotom sprite you can use:
