Lady & Her Pony
Hello everyone! This is my first post, and first mildly successful OU team ever – I really suck at this teambuilding thingamajig, so I would really appreciate all of your feedback! Firstly, thank you all for taking the time to read this post, and I hope you like my team as much as I do.
This team is centered around Keldeo and Mega-Altaria – placed together, they are an almost unstoppable force, cleaning up after the other wrecks havoc in the opponent’s team. My special Mega-Altaria acts as the surprise factor, because honestly who expects a special Altaria? And she’s pretty damn amazing at what she does too! Specs Keldeo is there to finish up what Altaria couldn’t, like Fire-typed threats and the like. They complement each other really well, and whatever that breaks past these two will have to deal with the rest of the fleet.
My play-style shies away from hyper offense, because I’m not some hit-and-run offender; I’m more inclined towards balanced offense. This team is filled with bulky attackers, trying to leverage on switches and hazard-stacking to pave the road for my stars to sweep. And so here’s a brief overview of how I got to my team!
And then I finally got my team! I named my Pokemon after my close friends on Pokemon Online, even though they say “That’s so 2013.”

This team is filled with bulky attackers, trying to leverage on switches and hazard-stacking to pave the road for my stars to sweep. And so here’s a brief overview of how I got to my team!
I didn’t really start with the core in mind – I wanted to base this team around Gliscor at first.
So this squad started off with a flying scorpion, and its first fairy (Clefable). Then I invited Ferro, the spiky thing, to join us! With Spike-stacking
Somehow I needed a Charizard check too, because everyone here would get wrecked in the ass. So I threw BRAVE BIRD, Talonflame, into the mix.
With so many SR-weak members (Altaria is weak before mega evolving), I decided I needed to mitigate my nasty, glaring weakness to rocks! And so Sableye joined us for that lovely Mega slot, and for that coveted Magic Bounce. I needed a special-attacking Scarfer too, so Keldeo came to join the gang.
But the whole team got way too passive, apart from Gliscor and Keldeo. So maybe I needed a more offensive Magic Bouncer.
I realized I was god-awful at using the newer mons, and Diancie died way too quickly without me understanding why. Since I ran a bulky Acrobatics Talonflame, I didn’t really have a solid answer to all the Steel-types bullying my Diancie-Mega. So bye-bye Diancie!
Then I decided I need a gratuitous dragon, that was also a Mega, that also had offensive presence. You know, the kind that forces a hell lot of switches for the hazard damage to stack? And then later you realise your counter isn’t really a counter to this set, so you switch even more, and get damaged even more?
Yup, that kind. And that was where I thought of my lovely Altaria.
But what about my hazards? What about my Talonflame, who’s bitterly sensitive to the rocks? What about Altaria, who is ruined by the rocks before Mega-evolving?
After trials and tribulations, I realised Clefable had zero offensive presence without a boosting move. And all it did was Wish-pass, even when 4/6 of my other Pokes had their own reliable recovery.
I thought that a doubly-resistant, Toxic Spikes-immune spinner would fit perfectly, and so I slapped Excadrill on:

THE TEAM: LADY & HER PONY
Jin of the Gale (Gliscor) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 244 HP / 8 Def / 200 SpD / 56 Spe
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Roost
Gliscor is my Rocks setter, and my tanky attacker. I really love this EV spread – most would assume that Gliscor would be physically defensive, and they try to slam my floating scorpion down dead with a special move. And then they get their item Knocked Off! Since Gliscor now seems rather helpless to other Gliscor, I’m thinking of putting Swords Dance back in place, and making my Exca the primary Rocks-setter.
LadyAltaria (Altaria) (F) @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
EVs: 248 HP / 168 SpA / 92 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Fire Blast
- Roost
- Roar
I mean, I know Keldeo is the star of my team, but… Altaria! She’s beauty, she’s grace, she’s adorable, she’s a puffy white floating cloud that is somehow also a pixie. She has been my favorite Pokemon since Emerald, and when ORAS gave her a new breath of life into OU, I swore I would definitely use her in my teams (even if she continued to be unusable – that’s how much I loved her!). But damn, that bulk. And that gorgeous avatar!
Gratuitous Pixilate-boosted infiltrator-level special attack with STAB? Hell to the yes. Altaria here acts as my bulky pivot, while still retaining offensive pressure. And it’s crazy how much damage Hyper Voice does when backed by her ability.
My favorite part of her is how she’s a Dragon herself, with that amazing defensive capabilities that it entails, yet she’s immune to Dragon-type attacks herself. The mighty dragons of OU will always have to resort to their other coverage moves, which barely fluff her mane most times.
Whenever I draw out my Altaria, the next Pokemon that immediately enter the field next would be Scizor or Ferrothorn, or something along those lines. Of course they can take a Hyper Voice, or the assumed DD then Return – but who would expect the Fire Blast on the switch? Heatran walls this set completely, which is why I have Roar to deal with him later and rack up SR / Spikes damage. Besides, most of the time, I would have been occupied with keeping Keldeo or Gliscor alive to deal with that pesky volcano.
Trademark (Keldeo) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind
Every lady needs her trusty steed, and Keldeo here is Mega-Altaria’s ride-or-die. While their roles may seem to overlap a little, Keldeo is mainly here to wall-break and punch holes in the other team for Mega-Altaria to clean up. Although in practice it is often the other way around: I play too conservatively with Keldeo and always save him for cleaning up! I think they complement each other rather well, with Keldeo taking out Heatran for sure and other Fairy-resists (since Poison-types usually have poor special defense). Meanwhile, Mega-Altaria wrecks a bit of havoc with her neutral coverage on pretty much everything else.
Scald is there for reliability and for that 130% chance of burn, while Hydro Miss is for when the added power really matters. But I’m not a man of redundancy so I was thinking of running a coverage move over one of these! Secret Sword as secondary STAB, and Icy Wind as coverage for the annoying Lati@s.
I have absolutely no way of dealing with Slowbro apart from Power Whip spam, so I’m considering running HP Electric over Icy Wind.
RhuRhu (Excadrill) @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
I’m thinking of slapping Stealth Rocks onto Exca to let my Gliscor become a set-up sweeper (since I really need one!), but I’m not sure which coverage move to give up. Plus I’m terrified that Exca has too many things to do at once, especially since it’s usually too slow to even spin. Toxic is my only answer to Slowbro at this point – my team is really pathetic when it comes to Slowbro! I would really appreciate some help with him. :(
min min (Ferrothorn) (F) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
Rocky Helmet + Iron Barbs racks up a hell lot of passive damage, especially on resisted or weak moves. Lopunny thinking she can get a free Fake Out on my other Pokes? BAM, it’s Ferro, and it’s about 20% off your HP. And Leech Seed forces a lot of switches too!
Flonne BRAVE BIRD (Talonflame)
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe
Careful Nature
- Acrobatics
- Roost
- Bulk Up
- Will-O-Wisp
Specially Defensive Talonflame to deal with Chari-Y. I think I might run a Choice Band set soon to have the real Brave Bird out! Or maybe a more offensive one. Acrobatics is quite pathetic without boosting, honestly. Any thoughts? :)

WEAKNESSES
Other Water-types: Defensively I am coping well, but offensively I pose little threat to them. Slowbro, oh, Slowbro, you are the bane of my team’s existence! It tanks hits like a champ, shrugging off everything that Keldeo and Mega-Altaria can possibly throw at it.
Status: It seemed mildly contradictory for me to run cleric support when Gliscor is running its Orb set. I can deal fine with them until Gliscor dies. But when most burns come from Scald, Gliscor is a bit hard-pressed in dealing with all that fire. Ferro’s effectiveness is really hindered by the passive damage too. Burn or Paralysis on my Altaria? Hell naw. And meanwhile Toxic manages to ruin everybody’s spotlight, apart from my Steels and Gliscor.
Mega-Manectric: This thing is seriously a BEAST with its coverage moves. Like what kind of wolf gets to learn Overheat?
Physical walls: I have yet to encounter any apart from Slowbro, but I lack strong, hard-hitting physical attackers. So that may be a problem unless I use SD on Gliscor!
LO Latios: That coverage kills half my team, especially when it runs HP Fire.
CONCLUSION
Constructive criticism is more than welcome, and thank you in advance for your help! Since Keldeo / Mega-Altaria is my core, I’m quite adamant about changing them (but I’m open to changes with Keldeo), and I’m used to the synergy between Gliscor and Ferrothorn as well. But I’m just an inexperienced kid, so what do I know?
I think I also need someone to spin-block, even if it’s very Gen 5. It breaks my heart to see my painfully-stacked Spikes and rocks disappear just by that one click! I’ve gotten complacent since more Defoggers have started running around. I think something to deter Defog too. Thank you so so much for your help! :)
I realised that my Poke’s EV spreads are all specially oriented HELP WHAT DO. But I really like the spreads.
