DemGems (Cloyster) (M) @ White Herb
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Shell Smash
Spinner / Multi-hitter - When I started on OU I had a basic team of standard sweepers such as Garchomp, Talonflame, and the like. No frills, no tactics, just try to be faster than the other guy. This strategy ground to a halt because of this set. For the life of me I couldn't find a way around this Shell-Smashed Cloyster. I went for the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" approach. It checks things like Garchomp and Talonflame and is a decent spinner to boot. The problem I had is that I would often lead with this, so that made the Spin redundant due to the lack of layers.
Champy (Garchomp) @ Garchompite
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Outrage
- Fire Fang
Physical Sweeper - When I built my first team I immediately looked to the pseudo-legendaries because of their tendency to have better base stats than regular Pokemon. I settled on Garchomp because of its aggressive Ground/Dragon typing and large move set. I picked the Swords Earthquake/ Outrage for the STAB physical and decent coverage, and Fire Fang to get some extra coverage against Mega Venusaur or Mamoswine. My main concern is that even after I Mega-Evolved, Garchomp remained extremely vulnerable to faster Ice-users. I want another Physical sweeper, but I don't know where to look.
DeezWingz (Skarmory) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Spikes
Physical/Special Wall - I put Skarmory in because I wanted a physical wall for the end-game. I would set up a few layers of Spikes and Whirlwind away any stat-boosted threats. Roost allowed me to get a few extra turns on the field as well as an extra Brave Bird.
Shazam (Alakazam) @ Life Orb
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 80 HP / 176 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Special Sweeper - I think this is where my team needs the most work. I chose Alakazam for its brilliant base Spe. and large moveset. I noticed a plethora of threats to my team in the form of Rotom-W, Tyranitar, and Dragonite/ Garchomp/ Charizard X, so I wanted some form of defense. However, its lack of defensive capabilities made it a one-turn switch or death fodder at best. It'd probably be better as a Revenge killer, but I'll need more practice to determine anything concrete.
Reptar (Tyranitar) (M) @ Quick Claw
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Naughty Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Fire Blast
Suicide Lead/ Entry Hazard/ Weather - This one actually surprised a few people I went against. The Quick Clawed-Stone Edge actually gave me an early lead in a few battles, even though I put Tyranitar in for the Rocks and death fodder. The Crunch and Fire Blast were for things like Aegishield, though things like Aegishield often have things for Tyranitar as well.
Talonflame (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Flame Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- U-turn
- Brave Bird
- Flame Charge/ Flare Blitz
Fast Sweeper - I chose Talonflame to be my go-to speed sweeper in light of Blaziken's banning. The Focus Sash provided another Brave Bird to give me a clean switch into another team member and the U-Turn was to build momentum.
Some of my item choices surprised those who I fought, such as the Quick Claw on Tyranitar, or the Sash on Talonflame. I honestly don't know what works with what so any help would be greatly and earnestly appreciated.
