First Rain Team Attempt

I've wanted to create a rain team for a long time now and finally got around to it just in time for the drizzle nerf, but that opened the door for Swift Swim Kingdra which can be very dangerous.

Politoed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Protect
- Scald
- Perish Song

My usual lead, I use Damp Rock because the extra 3 turns of rain are invaluable to me plus Politoed usually doesn't stay out for very long and doesn't take that much damage if you predict correctly. STAB Scald boosted by rain is pretty strong and the burn doesn't hurt. I use perish song to screw up baton pass chains. Protect to scout out moves and predict better.

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Roost

Physical Sweeper, not exactly sure what to run because I've never used Scizor a lot before. I don't know whether I should keep roost but I'm not sure what else to put.

Kingdra @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse
- Ice Beam

Standard special attacker spread, Dragon Pulse for when accuracy is necessary and Draco Meteor for when I need to deal a lot of damage then switch out.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Atk / 156 SDef
Careful Nature
- Wish
- Toxic
- U-turn
- Iron Head

EV spreads are pretty are kinda random but have a goal in mind, be defensive with points in attack to deal damage if necessary. Provides wish support and can switch out easily with U-Turn and Iron Head cause 60% = 100% XD. 5 Flinches in a row one time.

302.png

Sableye @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Rain Dance
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Knock Off

I wanted a back-up rain setter in case Politoed died and got more than that in Sableye, he definitely carries his weight, Will-O-Wisp on physical attackers can totally shut them down. Recover and Knock-Off to be annoying and Rain Dance just in case. I usually use Rain Dance right before I switch him out so someone else can use the benefits because he himself doesn't benefit at all.

637.png

Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Hurricane
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz

Special Sweeper Volcarona, Hurricane to take advantage of the rain and Fiery Dance for when I need a strong fire attack and Rain isn't up.

Well this team is definitely different, it's no longer a real rain team, the only thing that benefits is Kingdra and Volcanora's Hurricane. Though that's alright I guess. 3 out of 6 of the pokemon are weak to EQ and nothing is immune so it is very hard to switch into because it could OHKO my Specially Defensive Sableye, I try to keep politoed @ full HP because he is gonna switch in a lot and Kingdra is vulnerable to losing lots of HP from entry hazards and life orb combined over the course of the game.

Politoad: solid

Sylveon: solid

Kingdra: Kingdra functions much better as a special attacker in the rain. He really doesn't need the speed from dragon dance, and especially with the 8 turn clock you want to be attacking every turn possible. Draco meteor packs a bigger punch without locking you in, and a special spread let's you run more coverage like ice beam or hidden power.

Jirachi: looks good, gives much needed coverage and a bit of bulk

Sableye: I hate having to lose taunt on this guy, but I guess if I had to get rid of a move for rain dance...

Dragonite: I like him to be more bulky on rain teams, you could try 252 HP instead of speed and see which you like more (especially with leftovers). I'll assume his ability is a typo and you mean multiscale, but you should double check on showdown anyway. I would replace dragon pulse with extreme speed. The priority will bail you out many times over, and dragon dance is redundant

Overall it looks like a reasonable rain team. There are better (more bulky) secondary rain induces out there, but sableye does provide great utility (and priority rain dance). If you find yourself needing a bit more firepower you can test out former rain all star Kabutops, but I think the comp is fine as is!

Thanks I was worried the team was worse than that. I tried Kindra as a Special Attacker and it worked better IMO but I needed a physical attacker and Dragonite wasn't doing it as a physical attacker. Any Suggestions as to what I could replace dragonite with then?

Sorry about my first post. I was on mobile and I accidentally pressed post.

Ok so, while Sylveon is a decent Clerk, she doesn't really help your team defensively. Things such as Magnezone can come in and destroy her and have little to fear in return since yout only two real attackers are both Dragon types. Therefor, I would suggest changing Jirachi into your Clerk, with a U-Turn, Iron Head, Toxic, Wish set. Instead of Sylveon, I would run Choice Band Scizor for momentum and its powerful Bullet Punch. Kindra should run a Resto-Chesto set instead of your LO set. As wierd as it sounds, Volcanora can take Dragonite's place. With beter Speed, Higher Special attack, and access to Hurricane, Volcanora can fit Dragonite's role beter. It also has access to Quiver Dance, and can be a Special Sweeper. Even in the Rain, Fiery Dance will do massive damage to most Steel types.

I personally dislike Kingdra chesto-resto; Kingdra might be lightning fast, but it isn't particularly powerful, and it really needs life orb to pack that extra damage on. Plus Kingdra is bulky enough, thanks to stats and it's fantastic typing, that you can generally keep it active with wish/heal bell. Scizor would work as a good physical sweeper, but mega lucario is even more powerful. Plus that solves your "I don't have a mega" problem, which I completely overlooked in my op. And ya volcarona fills a similar role to dragonite. I like dragonite a lot more (again I try not to waste turns setting up in the rain this gen,) but volcarona does have the bonus of being able to continue the sweep after the rain is gone. This would leave you with a pretty big earthquake problem though, with no fliers or levitating to switch into, and even bulky mons hate taking stab earthquake. This would be compounded if you swap sylveon for scizor or lucario

Yeah I've had problems historically w/ Magnezone I just forgot to put it on the threats list, I used Sylveon because shes easy to switch into particularly from Dragonite/Kingrda because they almost guarantee a dragon type move in response. But I will try it and see how it works. Because your team seems to have a better spread of physical and special attacks. What Scizor set would you recommend?

You make a good point with the earthquake argument and I don't think that it's a good idea to run 2 steel types and a fire type with so many prominent EQ users. I'll try to find something with levitate or flying that I could try and switch into. What moves should Ludcario have?

I've edited my team and they are shown in red

I've decided that I don't like Volcanora because I've got no way to get rid of SR. Any suggestions?

Rain Dance Espeon rather than Rain dance Sableye.

Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Baton Pass
- Rain Dance

yo, you 100% need either rapid spin or defog for volcorona to be worth a team slot. I'd throw defog over iron head on scizor. Since you have rain dance on sableye, I don't think you need damp rock, letting you use a specs set to wallbreak for kingdra. Hp ground looks nice on volcorona too as they never expect it, and your team is otherwise weak. Heres an import with some suggested ev and set changes, use what you want, but i would for sure use defog, and hp ground.
