first real OU team try

Well here I am with one of my first real OU tries. I started OU a long time ago, but before I settled with a team I descended to the fun Monotype tier to fool around with my mono Ice team. Now that X and Y are coming up, it's time for me to start playing OU again! But the cold isolation of monotype made me a complete noob in the OU tier! Thus, I came here to ask for help, ideas. etc. The first 3 pokemon can be completely changed. Last 3 can too, but they working kinda well, for now. So enough talking! let's take a look, shall we?

MicroWave, Rotom-W @ Leftover
Ability: Levitate
EVs: Spe 176, SAtk 144, HP 184
Nature: Modest
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Changed based on comments below. To help me tank some more dmg and help me vs some water pokemons and rain teams.

380.gif

Weepweep!, Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: Satk 252, Spe 252, HP 4
Nature: Timid
- Draco meteor
- psyschock
- surf
- recover

Latias, even without EVs in her defenses, can still receive quite a punch and can switch in on quite some things. After that with quite good speed and sp attack it can pretty much blow through anything with these moves, while recovering on stalling pokemon who just can't knock latias out.

Genius (get it? Geni-us. Oh I'm so hilarious), Landorus @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force (Since I cant rng dream pokemon, im looking for posibble replacments.)
EVs: Satk 252, Spe 252, Sdef 4
Nature: Modest
- Earth Power
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power (Ice)
- Rock Polish
IVs: 31/2/30/31/31/31

Speaks for itself. Simple muscle power that tears trough quite allot, and from the special attackers that I've tried this one worked the best so far, but open for ideas. Added ROCK Polish to out-speed the faster threats and scarfers.

534.gif

Conkelderp, Conkeldurr @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: Atk 252, HP 128, Sdef 128
Nature: Adamant
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Facade
- Payback

One of my favorite sets. Simple way of packing a hard punch without setting up, and without worrying about getting status problems. Drain puch heals, and anything that doesn't deserve drain punch might make conkel die earlier, but they will die too. Mach punch for priority, payback for ghosts, drain for health, facade for massive flame orb dmg.

195.gif

Quak!, Quaqsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: HP 252, Sdef 252, Def 4
Nature: Sassy
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Yawn

I never ever thought that a NU pokemon would be so awesome in OU. This has crippled so many teams for me already. Quagsires unaware simply renders some pokemon useless as they remain weak unboosted. This mixed with good defenses, recover, and yawn to force switches and gain recovers is just amazing. Scald cripples with burn wich makes even easier to heal vs physical sweepers, and EQ to deal a bit of dmg. So yeah, as set up sweepers hurted my team allot, this weak looking Unaware abuser is a golden asset too my team!

Nyaa~, Female, Gyrados @ Leftover
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: Atk 128 HP, 176, Spe 204
Nature: Adamant
- Waterfall
- Bounce
- Taunt
- Dragon Dance

Isn't she cute? Bulky Physical sweepster. Without setup it can still hard and take hits herself. Timed well, with 2 or even 1 DD it can atleast punt big dents in big threats. Normally the set said use stone edge, but bounce give better coverage and chance to paralyze switch-ins (added after comment). Taunt to destroy pesky walls hindering my little girl and maybe get a free DD out of that.

So, thats what I got for now. Thats the team I have for now. still really new and fragile, but I'm sure that with a bit of help of you guys, it can come to something cool :) Don't be to hard on me, I'm not hat much of good player yet obviously. Thanks for helping.

I would suggest running hidden power ice or water over fire, as ground types wall magnezone. Dragon types such as kyurem and dragonite can obliterate this team, so that's another reason to use hidden power ice. I love the addition of quagsire, its one of my favorite Pokemon and really fits on your team. You can also think of rotating keldeo with gyarados, like I do. They can both perform similar roles, and are both very powerful

I'm no mod or anything, but I'm pretty sure it only allows six Pokemon per team.

Anyways,

The team itself is a very nicely built team in terms of total weaknesses. However, one big problem I notice straight off the bat is that your team can't do anything to rain teams. Although it may seem that you have good resists, Hydro Pumps will take a toll on your team. To fix this, I recommend running Bulky Rotom-W over Magnezone. You're not exactly weak to any steel types, so there's no real reason to have him. Secondly, I also recommend replacing Grass Knot on Landorus-I to Rock Polish. You're not exactly hitting anything hard in OU with Grass Knot anymore, and it doesn't receive a Sheer Force boost. Lastly, this may seem like a weird change but replace EQ on Gyarados with Bounce. Bounce may seem inferior but in practice it is much better than Earthquake, receiving better neutral coverage with Waterfall. Also, I don't get the big deal about putting Adamant over Jolly on Dnite and Gyarados, but whatever. Your choice.

Good luck!

Waddle covered the basics of what you need to replace but im more concerned about the missing EV's on some of your pokes. Was that an error on your part for forgetting to type those in, or by some weird reason are you not running the full 508 EV's on your pokes?

Keldeo won't do me good. Someday I wana create this team on my game for wifi, and i can't rng keldeo. So I'm slightly limited in chooise, but just slightly :d

As for magnazone, will try ice (if I'm not replacing him like said in other posts). For sure will try something against dragons!

Was more like a suggestion if it could fit in, so not a member yet, but if it's not allowed, I'll remove it :d

Will try out bulky-W rotom replacing magnezone! But do i need the bulky attacking set, or a defensive set? After I know that, I'll edit it :) Also changing grass knot for rock polish for sure. And about bounce, doesnt it take 2 turns? wouldnt that allow other pokes to switch in, set up or something like that? still gonna try bounce out!

Typing mistake, thanks for noting, will fix.

Thanks everybody, and more suggestions always welcome people :)

In agreement with the above suggestion, your Pokemon are in fact missing some well deserving EVs. an example of what is expected is below, using one of your listed Pokémon:

534.gif

(Conkelderp)Conkeldurr @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 SpD
Nature: Adamant
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Facade
- Payback

  • Aside from that, this team could use a more useful set for a few of your Pokemon, such as the before suggested RP set for Landorus-I with slightly different EVs. Landorus-I can use Modest nature way better than Timid. Modest doesn't only give it amazing power when paired with SheerForce+STAB+LO, it makes Landorus' RP all the more threatening. Also, SheerForce is entirely better, although I'm sure it's obtainable in Black, too. So say that you're using PO doesn't really matter; whether or not you use SheerForce. At least, I don't think it does. Anyways, here are the EVs I'd suggest using:
Landorus-I
645.gif

Landorus-I@ LifeOrb
Trait: SheerForce
Modest nature
EVs: 252 Sp.Attk/ 252 Spd/4 Sp.Def
EarthPower, FocusBlast, HP(Ice) & RockPolish
IVs: 31/2/30/31/31/31

*The 2 in Attk IVs allow Landorus to keep full power on HP(Ice)'s damage while lessening damage taken by confusion status.

So far, it's all I can address for now that could help you out a bit. At any rate, good luck and I hope this helped. :)

EDIT: You seem to have fixed the EVs as I was typing up my suggestion. Disregard the first part. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah changed the IVs, still thanks for the suggestion anyway, the intention is much apriciated.

Also changing the landorus part, but still slight problem. Will be able to use it on PO like that, but for sheer force as far as i know you need to change back a landorus gained from dream radar, and I can't rng dream pokemon yet, making getting a sheer force landorus for actual Wi-fi battles quite imposibble. Maybe do trading, but people having that flawless mostly can rng themself so not that much to offer except some events.

Still thanks and editing main post anyway!

In reality and practice both SpDef Rotom-W and Bulky variants will do good. The reason I recommend the bulky variant more is because Keldeo is a rising threat and cannot take Sacred Swords for long if it's max special defense.

And yes, Bounce does let certain Pokemon setup on it, but in reality, any Pokemon that would setup on the turn of Bounce wall it anyways (looking at you, Ferrothorn), it's mainly for those who wall it but can't do anything in return, i.e. all Water-types. It also comes with the added effect of potentially avoiding status. Really with Gyarados Waterfall is gonna be your main STAB move, Bounce is just there for comfort. If the two-turn attack really turns you off, at least run Stone Edge over EQ, but even then I still highly recommend Bounce.

So bulky attacking for rotom-W. For will-o-wisp I amuse? (I took the "bulky attacking" set from smogon, that alright?) And thanks for the explenation! WIll def try bounce!

Edit: Tried current team out a bit (with rotom-W) And feeling like i still miss moves for coverage and hard to take some hits since i have quite some attackers. Also noticed that I had allot of problems with jellicent. how do i get that down with my current team?

Edit2: Bounce on gyrados is a HUGE improvment. also whats better, intimidate by switching in on attacker getting a DD on switch, or moxie for gaining power in sweep? Also, still having lots of troubles with dragons like Dnite like mentioned before! And is the bulky attacker set really best for rotom? might it be smart to replace will-o-wisp for thunderbolt to deal with waters?

Also, any ideas on putting mew in? (support set) or would that be dumb.

Hi,

You definitely want to run HP Fire on your Magnezone to OHKO Ferrothron. Currently Ferrothron is walling 4 of your Pokemon and you don't want it to set up hazards all over your face while you try to Ko it with HP Ice. Ground types as mentioned in the first rate aren't a problem for this team since you have 3 immunities to handle them and Flash Cannon will do big damage anyways. Good luck.

Got magnezone switched with rotom-W for now on comments from the other. Ferro doesnt hurt me too much yet. Gyrados can taunt and give conkeldurr a go, or landorus. (also some people wana help me with the points i posted in previous comment?

Also any just-as-good option replacment for landorus since I need something RNGable? Is there such thing that fits as well as landorus? haha. Is Hydreigon any good?

Edited rotom in first post.
