LGilbz First Competitive Team
Before we go on, I'd just like to say this is my first competitive team I've felt has actually suceeded after various test matches in OU competitions and ladder games. I'm really new to this gen's pokemon but I've done some research, trial and error and I'm really satisfied with using this team however I do feel it has flaws and I am looking to improve it, this is a finished product yet it has holes where I feel pokemon could be better replaced, as you'll see below:
Heracross-Mega @ Heracronite
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature + SPEED - SP ATK
- Earthquake
- Pin Missile
- Rock Blast
- Close Combat
Weaknesses: Fairy, Fire, Flying, Psychic
Resistances: Bug, Dark, Fighting, Grass, Ground
Immunities: None
I did choose Heracross due to it being a pokemon I simply adore, It's actually amazing and although some of it's weaknesses are frighteningly common they are infact countered rather effectively throughout the rest of the team. The ability skill link when used in conjunction of good timing and prediction is disastrous for other teams. Pin missile and Rock blast will usually take care of pokemon with super effective weaknesses to the moves(Providing outsped). He can be used at any time during the battle depending on the weather and what hazards are set. Majority of the time and I'm unsure if this is uncommon but I've found as a lead with good prediction combined with his diverse move pool, I've managed to rid an opponent of two pokemon before I've even taken a dent due to them being keen on setting up hazards. That suprise factor can really hinder a team who aren't expecting or prepared for it. The spear head of the team and an absolute monster if used right and not respected!
Heatran (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+SPEED - ATK)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Grass]
Weaknesses: Fighting, Ground, Water
Resistances: Bug, Dragon,Fairy, Flying,Grass,Ice, Normal, Psychic,Steel
Immunities: Poison
Covers every single one of Heracross' weaknesses, and by -4 on Fairy. An absolute go to when a fairy is on the field which definitely lacks any of Heatrans other weaknesses, the ability flash fire which powers him up when hit by a fire move covers yet another Heracross weakness whilst recieving a free attacking boost, how could I not use this thing alongside Heracross, I went for a choice scarf for speed boost and a + speed nature for even more, the amount of times this guy has recieved a fire move and got a boost then absolutely threatened the opposing team, I understand how the scarf makes it then hard to choose which move to go into, but I'm sure the game is readable enough to not use a move which will be completely nullified.
Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Speed - ATK)
- Nasty Plot
- Hidden Power [Flying]
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
Thundurus (ignoring abilities):
Weaknesses: Ice, Rock
Resistances: Bug, Fighting, Flying, Grass, Steel
Immunities: Ground
Prankster thundurus is an absolutely incredible addition, just two weaknesses which only hit for 2x and can easily be seen coming. I could write a paragraph but let this personal video just explain why he is a must and a disgusting pokemon to be on the team; I think it speaks for itself: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-217758038
Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+SPEED -ATK)
- Healing Wish
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
Latias (ignoring abilities):
Weaknesses: Bug, Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Ghost, Ice
Resistances: Electric, Fighting, Fire, Grass, Psychic, Water
Immunities: None
Well this guy is excellent his draco meteor can deal whole chunk of damage to pokemon which don't resist it, and healing wish can be a game changer for when Latias has finished his role to fully re-imburse a team mate by removing a status condition and restoring HP.
Azumarill (F) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 208 HP / 252 Atk / 40 SpD / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature (+ATK -SP ATK)
- Knock Off
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
Azumarill (ignoring abilities):
Weaknesses: Electric, Grass, Poison
Resistances: Bug, Dark, Fighting, Fire, Ice, Water
Immunities: Dragon
What an amazing pokemon, I understand he's set up to be a belly drum Azumarill but I like being slightly unpredictable and I don't find enough time to have a set up opportunity and I believe the team has enough in terms of hardcore damage to really weaken and cripple teams Azumarills fairy typing helps to block in coming dragon attacks and then either send off a nasty Play Rough or Knock off to remove items.
Terrakion @ Focus Sash
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature (+Speed -SpATK)
- Close Combat
- Taunt
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
Terrakion (ignoring abilities):
Weaknesses: Fairy, Fighting, Grass, Ground, Psychic, Steel, Water
Resistances: Bug, Dark, Fire, Normal, Poison, Rock
Immunities: None
The focus sash can be very handy if hazards aren't set up giving 2 chances to OHKO a Charizard with Stone Edge. He has an abundance of weaknesses and he is the one pokemon I believe could be bettered on this team yet I am yet to test and discover who but he definitely fits in and finishes the team off nicely and also sets up rocks in battles they'd be needed / worth while.
To finish off here is a picture showing the resistance / weakness chart of this team.
http://i57.tinypic.com/2drrhib.jpg
As you can see from the image it has very little weaknesses for quite an offensive team, it is quite weak to a pokemon running multiple fairy types but this is fairyly uncommon and it has rare coverage to be super-effective against pure ghosts but off the top of my head I don't believe there are any pure ghosts in OU so you should have no trouble.
I am looking for improvements / adjustments, even willing to chop and change pokemon out however I would love to keep the core of having Heracross as part of this team and that's something I'd never want to change.
Thanks for viewing here is the importable version of the team for you to use / test.
