Yo, I'm PARTYNEXTFLOOR, and I'm a fairly new player. Most of my experience comes with OU, so this was my first shot at an RU team. I made this team with the new tier changes in mind. If this team has been posted before, I wouldn't know, as this is my first experience with RU.
The Team
Alomomola @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 120 HP / 136 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Scald
- Toxic
Being my first venture into RU, I of course checked out the viability ranks. My play style is usually bulky offense or hyper offense, so I chose Alomomola as a base. This is the standard mixed defensive set. It’s a very bulky Water-type Pokemon, which checks a lot of big threats such as Flygon, Delphox, and Houndoom, which seemed like Pokemon I would often see in this tier. It also has access to Scald, which is arguably the best move in the game. I can also Wish pass to Bronzong, which has no recovery besides Leftovers, and Virizion, which is my late game sweeper.
Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Earthquake
- Toxic
I wanted a mon which was bulky on the special side, and could also set up rocks, so naturally Bronzong was my first choice. It walls Flygon, one of the most prevalent Pokes in this tier, and can Toxic it to whittle it down. It also checks Venusaur, a Pokemon which can take out my Alomomola. Gyro Ball hits any of the Fairies that try to come in, and OHKO’s any Diancie, preventing any sort of set up.
Flygon @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 116 Def / 116 SpD / 24 Spe
Careful Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- Earthquake
- U-turn
Almost every team needs a defogger or spinner, and I decided to go with one of the premier defoggers of the tier, seeing as my only hazard would be SR. Defensive Defog Flygon works well with the defensive core I’ve already established, as Bronzong takes care of the Fairies that Flygon cannot touch. It comfortably checks offensive threats such as Houndoom, Mega Camerupt, and Rhyperior. The slower U-Turn can be used to pivot out into my actual offensive threats, such as M-Camerupt and Virizion. This EV spread also allows you to outspeed threats such as Rash Samurott and Adamant Tyrantrum, which seemed like fairly good wallbreakers for this tier. The spread also allows you to take a +2 Dark Pulse from Houndoom and hit it back with an EQ.
Camerupt @ Cameruptite
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 248 HP / 176 SpA / 84 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Toxic
I was wondering what mega could possibly fit this team. I needed something that could take out Fairies more reliably then Bronzong, could check threats such as Rotom-C, Elektross, and Virizion, and also break through walls such as Alomomola and Cofagrigus. Mega Camerupt was an easy choice. The basic Tank set outspeeds Amoongus and can break through Pokes like Alomomola and Mega Audino with ease, being a 2HKO on the former and a 2HKO on the standard defensive Mega Audino after rocks. With Bronzong as a rocker, I can run both Toxic for bulky water mons like Alomomola and Seismitoad, and Hidden Power Ice OHKOs the offensive variants of Flygon. It also takes care of any Poison types that threaten Virizion, like Venusaur or Garbodor.
Virizion @ Lum Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Leaf Blade
- Stone Edge
I needed a mon in order to switch in to any Grass or Electric moves, so I had the choice between Roselia, Amoongus, or Virizion. Virizion was the choice I picked because it sets up on many of Alomomola’s switch ins, and I also wanted a late game sweeper. I went with the simple Swords Dance set, as Virizion can punch through other offensive mons such as Aggron, Tyrantrum, and Mega Steelix with CC. Leaf Blade is for any Water-Types or Ground-Types, such as Alomomola or Rhydon. The Lum Berry allows Virizion to take status moves like a Will-O-Wisp from Weezing, a T-Wave from Liepard, or cure the inevitable Scald burn from one of the bulky water mons in the tier.
Diancie @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Moonblast
Lastly, I wanted a defensive Fairy Pokemon. Scrafty could be a problem if it had bulked up and wasn’t in range of a CC, or if Virizion was already dead. The first one that came to mind in this tier was Aromatisse, but I already have a Wish passer in Alo. The only other option was Diancie. I also already had a rocker in Bronzong, so I decided to go with a less standard set. RestTalk mono attacker Diancie can set up on mons like Houndoom, Fletchinder, and Delphox, and eventually kill them with Moonblast. It also gives me a second potential wincon.
This is my first RMT, and also my first venture into RU, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
