ORAS OU First RMT (Feedback please)

Hello everyone,

This is my first team i'm posting and i like to get some imput. I have already tested this team and it serves pretty good but I think it can get some improvements. This team is also really fun to use so feel free to copy and paste it.

Chesnaught @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Spiky Shield
- Drain Punch
- Leech Seed
- Spikes

The first mon I chose is Chesnaught. I wanted to use a fat defensive grass wall with leech seed. I used mega venusaur already quite a bit so I wanted a fun changes. Chesnaught is one of those uu mons that serves really well in ou as a defensive wall. Setting up spikes is also really nice.

Blastoise @ Assault Vest
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Dragon Tail
- Ice Beam

The second mon I chose is Assault Vest Blastoise. The reason I chose this mon is because it paires up pretty nice with Chesnaught and with and Assault Vest, Blastoise just becomes a specially defensive mon with nice utility moves like rapid spin and dragon tail. Scald is just for stab and burns and ice beam for coverage.

Cobalion @ Focus Sash
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spe / Def
Naive Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock
- Close Combat

I chose cobalion as my third mon because I wanted a fast stealth rocker that gets switch initiative as well. T-wave is always a nice status condition for stopping threaths and close combat to hit common stealth rockers like heatran, ferrothorn and t-tar.

Gardevoir-Mega @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

I chose mega gardevoir because i needed a hard hitting special attacker. A special attack of 471 combined with pixilate hyper voice gives me most of the time an ohko. Psychic is also for stab and shadow ball and focus blast for coverage.

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Pursuit

Bisharp is my fifth pick because it paires up really well with mega gardevoir since they cover each others weaknesses. I chose to go for the black glasses pursuit trap set since I like to trap the lati twins and knock off/sucker punch really hurts paired up with the black glasses.

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Earthquake
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish

My last pick is life orb latias. I chose this mon because stab draco + life orb hits like a truck and if any of my members get down to low health i can just healing wish them up to full health. This is also a reason why I chose Latias above Latios. Psyshock is for obvious stab and earthquake for heatran.

So this is my team, hope you like it. I had a ton of fun with this team but I think it can get some improvement. Maybe a set up sweeper wouldn't be to bad to add on this team. I like how this team is pretty unpredictable. Like come on, who ever uses cobalion in ou, although to me it proves to be pretty effective.

I appreciate some feedback and thank you so much for reading through my team.

Hello Bandedmonster ! Cool looking team. I see this is your first time building an OU team, well teams in general. Onto the rate:

At first glance, I'd have to say that your team is very weak to Charizard-Mega-X. After one Dragon Dance, it can sweep your entire team. Because of that, I would advise you use Hippowdon on this team. It provides a solid check to Charizard, Mega Manectric, etc. It has stealth rocks and acceptable bulk. However you can run Garchomp as well. The Garchomp I am thinking of is TankChomp. It can't really take a hit from Zard X, but it has access to Endure. Overtime, Charizard will KO itself due to the massive amount of recoil. Not only is your team weak to Charizard-Mega-X, but it is also weak to Mega Scizor. After an SD, you have very minimal options left. Cobalion pretty much makes for set- up bait against it.

Normal Blastoise isn't very viable in OU. Is there honestly a reason to use this over other water hazard removals such as Tentacruel, Starmie, or Empoleon? Tentacruel is faster and has a better defensive typing. It also gives another check to Mega Venusaur. Starmie is faster and packs much more of an offensive presence. Empoleon on the other hand provides better bulk and more power than Blastoise. With all of that I would just run Tentacruel. Not only does it provide another Mega Venusaur check, but it gives you a better switch in to Keldeo, which you sort of lack (Latias isn't a very consistent switch in as it can be withered down due to scald and doesn't appreciate icy wind).

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 28 SpD / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Acid Spray
- Toxic Spikes / Knock Off

EV Explanation: The EV spread makes sure that Tentacruel avoids the 2HKO from Life Orb Gengar's Shadow Ball and Modest Mega Charizard Y's Fire Blast or Solar Beam after Stealth Rock 100% of the time, while still retaining a respectable physical bulk that allows it to check physical attackers such as Azumarill. 16 Speed EVs and a Timid nature allow Tentacruel to outspeed neutral-natured Mega Altaria and max Speed base 70s such as Breloom, Adamant Diggersby, and almost all versions of defensive Landorus-T.

Cobalion isn't the most optimal Pokémon for this team. Sure, it provides Stealth Rocks but this choice does this even better. If you've already read above, I think Hippowdon would make for the better mon here. It has better bulk and can reliably set up whatever hazards it needs to. Also, thanks to Whirlwind, Hippowdon can phase opponents that like to set up or to rack up stealth rocks damage. It also has reliable recovery, which would certainly come in handy overall.

Shadow Ball is pretty unnecessary for Gardevoir. What exactly does it hit hard that Hyper Voice doesn't? Instead, I would run something like Taunt, Will-O-Wisp, or Calm Mind. Calm Mind allows Gardevoir to set up and sweep late- game. Taunt allows Gardevoir to stallbreak, as fatter Pokémon won't be able to status it, heal status, recover or set up. Will-O-Wisp is useful for physical attackers such as Bisharp who think they can set up. Also, I would run Psyshock > Psychic. Psyshock allows Gardevoir to hit Assault Vest holders harder. Its main use is to hit Chansey and Blissey harder than Focus Blast and Hyper Voice would, as it hits on the physical side. And your EV Spread isn't the most optimal. It allows it to get outsped by many threats such as Jolly Bisharp or Adamant Excadrill. Instead, I would run an EV spread of 24 Def / 232 SpA / 252 Spe Timid / Modest Nature. 24 Defense EVs allow Gardevoir to not be 2HKO'd by Latios' Psyshock.

625.gif
Nothing is wrong with the moveset at a first glance. However, I think this may be very crucial in a lot of cases. For your Bisharp, I would run an EV Spread of 252 Atk / 52 SpD / 204 Spe. 52 Special Defense EVs allow Bisharp to take a Life Orb Latios' Hidden Power Fire at full (even after rocks).

380.gif
I understand that you wanted to use this over Latios because of its access to Healing Wish, but I think Latios may be more beneficial for your team. Why is this? Well, Latios is stronger overall which is what I see your Latias trying to do. You can maybe consider Latios if you feel the need to. Oh and Latios can use EQ much more effectively, as it OHKO's after rocks. Hidden Power Fire is also can option if you keep Latias; or even Surf.
381.gif

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Earthquake
- Roost

Overall, nice team! Hope I helped, good luck~

Thanks for the reply,

As I look over my team I do realise I have a big weakness against mega charizard X. I definetly switch my cobalion for the tank chomp set. I also agree that blastoise gets outclassed by tentacruel so I'll give him a go as well. Again thanks for the tips.
