XY OU First RMT: Mega Garchomp is a Savage.

Hello, this is my first RMT and post on the website. I've been into competitive battling for about 2 years, and have been following the website since. I don't normally play on Showdown (elo is 1526), as I prefer playing on my 3DS. But I would love to have suggestions to the team, and if I did something wrong, I would love help from you guys.

The team is a balance team, trying to set up a Mega Garchomp sweep, by taking out and wearing down threats.

Garchomp_Mega_XY.gif

(Mega) Garchomp
Item: Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin (Sand Force)
Nature: Naughty
EVs: 252 Sp. Atk/ 4 Atk/ 252 Speed
- Stone Edge
-Earthquake
-Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor

I've always wanted to use this monster in competitive battling. The speed stat is turn off, but this team is meant for Garchomp to come in late game and sweep under the sand with Sticky Web as the main component to the sweep. The Mixed set is to take out common switch ins and counters for Garchomp like Ferrothorn and Skarmory.

Galvantula
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Compound Eyes
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 Sp. Atk/ 4 Sp. Def/ 252 Speed
- Thunder
- Bug Buzz
- Giga Drain
- Sticky Web

I hate spiders, except for Galvantula because he is actually very helpful to this team and has saved my ass more times than I can remember. He is my usually my common lead, unless there's a threat that can set up that I know will lead, which then I pick Sableye. Galvantula purpose is to use it's great speed to set up Sticky Web and usually die off trying to do as much damage as possible. I'll sometimes save him to take out bulky Pokemon like Mandibuzz and use the Focus Sash for a safe switch in.

Sableye_XY.gif

Sableye
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP/ 4 Sp. Def/ 252 Def
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Knock Off
- Recover

Sableye has many purposes for this team. He can be my back up lead, to check/counter set up Pokemon leads. Will-O-Wisp is cripple many Physical Pokemon, and to have passive damage on walls like Mega Venusaur. Knock off is to take away the other Pokemon's item and a way to do some damage. Taunt is very helpful for many many many reasons. Stop entry hazards, walls from recovering, set up sweepers, and to stop status. Recover is to get that priority heal.

Tyranitar
Item: Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
Nautre: Quiet
EVs: 252 HP/ 52 Atk/ 176 Sp. Atk/ 28 Speed
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Dark Pulse
- Flamethrower

Let me explain. When I was team building, I originally had a defensive T-tar. I had many problems with it. I was use to the Assault Vest variant, I was over estimating T-Tar with out the AV. It wasn't THAT good without AV, and it wasn't doing anything in return. Physical Def T-tar was garbage in my experience. So I looked around, trying to find a good T-tar set that wasn't crippled badly with a Smooth Rock. Tyraniboah was a gimmick set that I saw, and I picked it and hey it works good. This set is mainly surprised factor. Many common switch ins like Sizcor, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn fall to this set. Chansey is a threat to the team, and this set takes care of that Pink blob in a hurry. Focus Punch hits the Pink Blobs, T-Tars, and other Dark Types, under the Sub. Dark Pulse is just to get Stab, and hit Physical walls that resist Focus Punch for decent damage. But I am considering switching it with Ice beam or Thunderbolt to hit more switch in threats like Gliscor, or bulky water types.

Landorus_Therian_Forme_XY.gif

Landorus-T
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Def/ 4 Speed
- Stealth Rock
- U-Turn
- Knock Off
- Earthquake

Landorus-T is my SR setter-upper (is that even a word?) and has a nice ability to check some physical threats. Not much else to say, U-Turn is used to get some momentum on my side while scouting. Knock off is to cripple Pokemon and do a lot of damage. and Earthquake is STAB.

snorlax.gif

Snorlax
Item: Assault Vest
Ability: Thick Fat
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Sp Def/ 4 Def
- Body Slam
- Pursuit
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake

My Special Wall. When team building I notice I had a bad weakness against water types, mainly Greninja, and to Special Attackers. I have used Snorlax in the past on my team revolving around Charizard and have found great success. I chose Body Slam over Return for the chance of spreading Paralyze. Pursuit to penalize Pokemon trying to switch out, especially Gengar. Fire Punch is to hit those Steel types that aren't SE damaged by Earthquake. For being a Pokemon I kinda of put into the team without thinking of synergy, I believe he fits in quiet well.

Hi, nice team, but I think you could make it a bit better :]

First off, I would run another spread for lando, as att and deff is pretty meh... You won't really get enough bulk without hp investment:

Landorus-T
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Impish
EVs: 248 hp/ 252 Def/ 4spdeff/ 4 Speed
- Stealth Rock
- U-Turn
- Stone edge
- Earthquake

With base 145 attack he will still hit hard, and stone edge allows him to check and ko a number of things, including but not limited to: talonflame, mega char x, as well as hitting tons of stuff on the switch.

Moving on ~ I would give sableye 8 speed evs, so that you can speedcreep opposing sableyes

As for tyranitar leftovers > smooth rock, as you do not benefit that much from sand! given you keep snorlax ^^

For the last slot I could actually see a sand force excadrill helping out, it will take care of greninja, charizard, Thundurus, keldeo after about 20% of prior damaged, ganger the lati twins! after some prior damaged... If you try this, keep the smooth rock ^^

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock slide
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin/sword Dance

Edit: rock slide was what I meant to put... Rock tomp is garbage

Yeah, Sand Rush Excadrill instead of the Snorlax would be a great help to your team. If you run:
Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVS: 252 ATK / 252Spe / 4 HP
Nature Adamant:
Swords Dance/Rapid Spin
Earthquake
Rock Tomb/Rock Slide
Iron Head

The Rapid Spin would be good to get rid of hazards but by using SD, you could predict a switch or a protect to give it more damage. Either way, it's your choice. And with Sand Rush, you'll most likely outspeed all non-boosted Pokemon and do tons of damage, even if it's not boosted because the Excadrill has a Life Orb and can 2HKO a lot of Pokemon. :P With Earthquake, it'll do tons of damage with STAB and Exca's amazing base power with the life orb. Rock Slide would probably be better than rock tomb because with the sand rush boost, because rock slide does more damage and rock tomb slows the opponent down but you don't need it cause of Sand Rush. Then there's Iron Head because it's like. Strong. c:
And run Smooth Rock on your T-Tar so that the sandstorm will last a long time so that your Exca has a chance to sweep. c:

Welp, meant to put rock slide there :P rock Timp would suck on exca, and miss out on the flinch chance...

Hey there, and welcome to Smogon monte73 :toast: This is a pretty cool team you have here, though I would like to suggest some changes to make it even better and more competitive;

First off, running Sticky Web in tandem with MegaChomp can be deadly, but without any way of taking advantage of Defoggers trying to get rid of your Web, it isnt really that effective. Therefore, I would suggest running Bisharp > Sableye. With Defiant, he gets a free +2 when your opponets use Defog, which can end up in Bisharp either sweeping or wallbreaking for Chomp to clean up.

Bisharp Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Pursuit / Swords Dance
This is a change that takes the team on a more offensive route. To continue this, making your team more of an offensive Sticky Web team, I would suggest running Stealth Rocks on TTar and running Sand Rush Excadrill > Snorlax. This change makes your team do very well against opposing offense, as Excadrill in sand often is able to take down many frailer pokes, or at least severely hurt them. Excadrill also has another niche, which is provoiding Rapid Spin support for the team in a pinch, which can be crucial for doing well in longer battles.

DOT81V1.png

Tyranitar @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 144 HP / 112 Atk / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Beam
- Pursuit
- Fire Blast / Stone Edge

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
Looking at it, exchanging Snorlax with Excadrill leaves us very open to special attackers like Keldeo and Greninja, but by putting Stealth Rocks on Tyranitar, Lando-T isn't really needed, as it just add's another weakness to Water and Ice. Therefore, I would like to exchange Landorus-T for Assault Vest Azumarill. Azumarill is one of the only Pokemon who can switch into the likes of Keldeo and Greninja, check CharX, and still provoide lots of offensive presence.

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
That's all I have really, good luck with the team, hope I helped you :]

Thank you for the replies and helpful ideas.

I will do the Excadrill over Snorlax idea. Something I totally forgot about was Excadrill in the sand, with the ability to out speed the threats to my team and take them out. And it seems apparent that everyone says it is better than Snorlax.

AV Azumarill was something I looked at before but never got the chance to try out. It seems to have a great typing that fits well with the team. It will also fill that void that Snorlax left. Will defiantly try it out.

That Bisharp seems really threatening, and I have seen it done before. I am worried because Sableye has helped me win some close matches with it's priority moves, so I will test how it goes without Sableye.

If I do keep Landorus-T, I will use that more defensive spread WideTomato provided.

I like the Tyranitar spread TheEnder gave. Gets stealth rock on the field, while having an offensive presence.

Thank you again for the replies, and I will test and see how these adjustments will go.
