Hi, I've started battling on Showdown, and I've been trying to find a team that I like. I have no idea what I'm doing but I have this team so far. I need some criticism on what's good and bad about it.
Gengar @ Gengarite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Focus Blast
- Dazzling Gleam
- Shadow Ball
I used to have Alakazam because I've loved Alakazam since the RBY days. But I found that I really, really hated earthquake so I changed it to Gengar.
I found that Gengar acts similar enough to Akalazam. I was hoping to use him as a recipient of Sylveon's Calm Mind boosting if I needed something with better coverage, or to trap something I really want to kill.
Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Recover
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Thunderbolt
I got sick of hazards, and I liked having a water/electric option because my team lacks it. I don't know if this is the best spinner for my team. It always seems to get crushed because of it's Psychic typing. If I were to replace a pokemon this would be it. Although it does take neutral/resisted hits well. I'm not really sure.
Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Cute Charm
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Atk / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Baton Pass
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Wish
I chose this just to see how it would work. I love it. I originally had Draining Kiss but I decided that Moonblast would be better because I have Wish to aid recovery.
Pretty much this thing just tanks hits while boosting, then either blasting everything to death or swapping it out to Gengar. Plus it allows me to support my team with Wish.
Conkeldurr @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Earthquake
- Poison Jab
With Iron Fist and Life Orb, this thing hits like a truck and can heal Life Orb damage with Drain Punch. Earthquake and Poison Jab for coverage, and Bulk Up if I have a chance to boost things things up for more fun. However its low speed always seems to get it killed before I can use it well. Maybe I should sacrifice HP for speed?
Shuckle @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
- Toxic
- Sticky Web
- Earthquake
- Rest
I wanted this for Stealth Rock but it cannot use it yet apparently. So I decided to use Sticky Web because my pokemon are not the fastest, and this can help me out. The Rest/Berry combo is something I was trying out for fun. If I'm lucky I can get 2 Sturdy procs off.
Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Softboiled
- Thunder Wave
- Aromatherapy
This thing is so tank. Plus it lets me clear status effects, which is great when people try to sleep/paralyze/burn. This is my go-to wall, to allow my team to have a breather. I just wish it could learn Wish already (no pun intended).
My usual strat is to start with Shuckle, get Sticky Web down and then either switch to Starmie to clear any hazards or to Gengar/Conkeldurr to deal with any specific threats. Otherwise I bring Sylveon out and try to set up Calm Minds to overpower the enemy.
It has won me a few games, primarily off the back of Sylveon Calm Mind sweeping or stalling with Blissey.
Thanks for any criticism!
