First Time Around

Hey guys, I'm kind of new to UU and i just whipped this team together to battle my friend. It worked pretty well against him and came pretty close against some OU teams so i was just wondering if it was really something. It obviously will need some improvements so if you guys have any suggestions feel free to tell me!

Aerodactyl Adamant @Choice Band
Ability: rock head
Evs: 252 Atk/ 6 SpD/ 252 Spd.

Stealth Rock
Double-Edge
Earthquake
Fly

notes: yes, I know he's RU but I've found him to be pretty useful since he's faster than most pokemon in the tier so I have a guaranteed hazard almost every time. The only drawback is that then stealth rock gets choice banded and i have to switch, which can be a pain but i don't mind it so much. After he comes back in though he can be a monster with whatever move he uses so I like it personally. I am considering giving it stone edge but I don't know what to replace. As long as it has rock head I don't want to get rid of double edge, and I want the hazard. Earthquake is nice for coverage and I chose fly for some STAB, but i don't know what to get rid of so I need some help on this.

Mienshao Jolly @Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
Evs: 252 Atk/ 6 SpD/ 252 Spd.

Hi Jump Kick
U-Turn
Stone Edge
Poison Jab

Notes: This guy is my favorite and I'm really pleased with the U-turn/Regenerator conbo, it's really come in handy and this is my favorite Mienshao set. Not looking for improvements here really.

Flygon Admant @Choice Band
Ability: Levitate
Evs: 252 Atk/ 6 SpD/ 252 Spd

Earthquake
U-turn
Outrage
Fire Punch

Notes: I do like this Flygon, the Choice Band and Outrage takes a pretty big chunk out of everything, even some steel types. I like the moveset, fire punch offers some nice coverage on ice types, but I think I might change the choice band, but maybe not. I would just like to better utilize Flygon's moveset.

Arcanine Modest @Focus Sash
Ability: Flash Fire
Evs: 188 Hp/ 252 SpA/ 70 Speed

Flamethrower
Sunny Day
Solarbeam
Morning Sun

Notes: I know that i need to improve arcanine in some way, especially since he's holding the focus sash I should give him more speed because he'd be more useful, but with the HP evs he can be a 2HKO with earthquakes. I'd like to improve him or replace him so suggestions are needed.

Milotic Modest @Lum Berry
Ability: Marvel Scale
Evs: 252 SpA/ 252 SpD/ 6 Spd.

Ice Beam
Hydro Pump
Dragon Pulse
Toxic

Notes: Milotic is pretty useful for switch-ins and just during the battle itself. It can come in and tke special attacks pretty easily and since people know it has pretty great special defense, countless trainers I've battled try to inflict a status problem, which the lum berry easily takes care of and i get a free hit, in addition to the other attack I can use due to its bulk.

Bronzong Impish @Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
Evs: I'm not too sure, this might not be exact, but I think it was something like 252 Hp/ 252 Def/ 6 SpD (and 0 speed Ivs)

Relfect
Light Screen
Earthquake
Gyro Ball

Notes: Bronzong is my dedicated wall/double screener. with light clay by reflects and light screens last 8 turns and it has enough bulk that normally I can survive long enough to use them and the rest of my team (especially aerodactyl with its pitiful defensive stats) benefits tremendously. With gyro ball and 0 speed Evs and Ivs I can OHKO or do tons of damage to pretty fast pokemon. With levitate and being a steel type, it is a pretty valuble switch in after a U-turn from Flygon since many try to hit it with a dragon type move. Overall I'm pleased with it, unless facing a powerful, fire-type specil attacker Bronzong can last for quite a while.

So that's my team!!! Suggesstions are needed. I'm mainly looking for fixes or possible replacement for Arcanine, a move to get rid of for stone edge on Aerodactyl (between Fly or Earthquae preferably), and a possible item change for Flygon. Please help me out, especially if you are pretty experienced with UU tier battling, I'd like to get better. Thanks a bunch!!!

Well, how you do and Welcome to Smogon! First, the 6 Evs you put are not manditory and most of us prefere just 4 Evs instead. Another visual aspect we prefere is the way the sets are posted. Ill take your Aerodactyl set as an example.

aerodactyl.gif

Aerodactyl@Choice Band
Rock Head
Adamant
252 Atk/ 4 SpD/ 252 Spe
Stealth Rock
Double-Edge
Earthquake
Fly

Anyway, on to the team. Not to be rude and all but all these sets are, competetivly horrible with the exception of Bronzong (Hey, we all start somewhere right?). First off, your giving vauleable information with Fly. When you show Fly, that tells the opponent to use that turn of waiting up in the Sky to get a free swith into a resist like Nidoking/Queen to then use a Sheer Force boosted LO 4xs Super-Effective Ice Beam on Aerodactyl. Double Edge is only good if its STAB, so dont run it. I would run Focus Sash over CB, Stone Edge over Double Edge, and Acrobatics over Fly. And also reguarding him, just beacuse hes an RU poke, doesnt mean hes bad. It just requires higher skill to run in UU. I forgot who posted this but he said 50% of RU is viable in UU and even some of NU is vaible too.

On Mienshao, everything seems to be in place except, Oh yeah POISON JAB. Posion is one of the worst typing offencively and one of the worst moves to use if its not STAB. Please, just use Stone Edge instead of poison Jab, you wont regret it.

Okay thanks for the info on the layout and stuff, I'll make sure to use that in the future! I realize my sets could be much better, but I feel that Mienshao, Flygon, Milotic, and Bronzong were pretty decent (with the exception of poison jab, I really need to fix that). And now that youve pointed that out I don't know what I was thinking in fly. Not trying making excuses, but I honestly did just whip this team In roughly 45 min-1 hr so i could battle my friend. I chose double-edge because it had rock head and I thought I'd just make the most of it choiced with no recoil. I can see how helpful acrobatics would be, I mean 110 base power gee whiz, so i'll definetly consider it along with aerial ace, bt that just depends on whether or not i decide to keep the choice scarf. And again since I'm pretty new to competitive battling I didn't know if you were able to use RU pokemon in another tier, so thanks for that information! Thanks a ton for Your help!

I just wrote a giant post on this and then deleted the window >.> Smart. Anyway, here goes Try 2.

Replace Aerodactyl's set with a standard suicide SR Lead.

Aerodactyl @ Focus Sash
Trait: Pressure/Unnerve
252 Atk/252 Spe/4 SpD
Jolly Nature
-Stone Edge
-Stealth Rock
-Protect/EQ
-Taunt

This set will give you some much-needed hazard support throughout the entire game, as well as provide decent attack. You also are able to stop enemy hazards from coming up with Taunt. Protect is if you want to scout, whereas EQ is for some better coverage. You should usually lead with Aerodactyl most games.

Sunny Day arcanine is out of place unless on a dedicated sun team, which your team isn't. Replace it for a better fire type, like Scarf Victini.

Victini @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Victory Star
252 SpA/252 Spe/4 SpD
Adamant/Jolly Nature
- V-create
- Bolt Strike
- U-turn
- Zen Headbutt

Scarf Victini gives you a nice little U-turning pair of scarfers as well as providing serious firepower to this team. V-create wrecks face in UU, and Bolt Strike and Zen Headbutt give it some decent coverage.

Your dual screens Bronzong seems out of place as well, it's sort of a momentum suck for an otherwise offensive team. You need a strong special attacker, so I'd recommend a Shaymin.

Shaymin @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
252 SpA/252 Spe/4 SpD
Modest/Timid Nature
-Seed Flare
-Psychic
-Earth Power
-Synthesis

Shaymin is awesome for HO teams as it has quite a bit of survivability due to its base 100 Defences and Synthesis, but is also extremely strong, boasting a base 120 Stab attack that has a 40% chance to lower SpD 2 stages. Psychic and Earth Power give it great coverage against Steels and Poisons.

Finally, your EV spread on Milotic is inefficient. Either replace it for a strong special attacker like a Kingdra or Raikou, or change it to a fully SpD set as follows

Milotic @ Leftovers
Trait: Marvel Scale
252 SpD/252 HP/4 SpA
Calm Nature
-Scald
-Recover
-Dragon Tail
-Toxic

Great points, but I really do not like using legendaries, I understand theyre good but I'd rather not use them, thats just the way I am, ao if theres other suggestions that are non-legendary I'd prefer it. If I was to use a grass type I. Have two sceptiles that i interchange, one physical and one special sweeper.
The physical one:
Sceptile @Grass gem
Unburden
Admant
252 Atk/ 252 Spd
Swords dance
Leaf blade
Rock slide
Drain punch
I really like using this one

Special:
Sceptile @dragon gem
Unburden
Timid
252 SpAtk/ 252 Spd
Energy ball
Focus blast
Dragon pulse
Attract (this move has saved me in a few battles so i dont really want to hear about its uselessness if you think that)

If i was to use a grass type, this would be it. But thanks for your input on milotic and aerodactyl

If you're looking for an alternative to Shaymin, I'd suggest Roserade over Sceptile.

Roserade @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
Modest/Timid Nature
252 SpA/252 Spe/4 HP
-Sludge Bomb
-Leaf Storm/Giga Drain
-Giga Drain/Extrasensory
-Synthesis/Rest/HP Fire

Hmmm i think i still prefer sceptile since i use it as a sweeper (through experience, Sceptiles speed is important to get off attacks, especially against fast pokemon its weaker to like froslass), but roserade seems interesting, so maybe ill use it on another team thanks for the ideas!
