Hi,
I am quite new to competitive (was a casual player since the first gen but never really tried competitive), and is my first time trying to build a team
I wanted to use Mega Scizor (the bullet punch priority is really good) and it has quite high defence.
Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bug Bite
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
Scizor is easily walled by fire types and I decide to have a water type as my second pokemon.
Crawdaunt @ Focus Sash
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Aqua Jet
- Dragon Dance
- Crabhammer
The adaptability boosted knock off OKHO almost all non-bulky pyschic and ghost type such as Gengar, Espeson, Starmie and Alakazam. It does chunk of damage to most eviolite pokemon. Crab hammer also 2HKO many non-physical wall pokemon. The water type STAB is quite helpful in removing fire types and ground types such as excadrill and heatran. Focus sash and aquajet combo comes in handy as Crawdaunt is quite frail.
Was originally relying on sharpedo for countering fire types but sharpedo doesn't get the adaptability boost and knock off bonus that crawdaunt get so he was scraped.
There is still pesky will-o-wisp so I decide that I would need a healer. Hence...
Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy
Bulky healer with quite high SpA. The coverage for dragon and fighting type is quite useful. I would switch in to Scizor when I predict that my opponent would use sludge bomb or something. Can 2-3HKO many pokemon with uninvested SpDef.
At this point of time I realised that steel type is quite the problem so i decide to put in a pokemon with flamethrower as a coverage move.
Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpA
Bold Nature
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt
- Muddy Water
- Dragon Pulse
Goodra has decent SpA and is also quite bulky (I am quite in love with bulky pokemon actually). Thunderbolt, flamethrower and Muddy Water are good for coverage. Dragon pulse over draco meteor as I prefer to have higher accuracy. I have seen ice beam and HP-ice doing only like 20% damage to Goodra. Sap sipper ability is useful for me to switch to Goodra when the opponent throws a grass pokemon at Crawdaunt.
I realise I have too many special walls so I decide to have a wil-o-wisp setter on my team to cripple physical wall.
Spiritomb @ Black Glasses
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Foul Play
- Sucker Punch
- Pain Split
- Will-O-Wisp
Will-o-wisp annoys opposing physical attacker a lot. Foul play and sucker punch has good synergy, and is good for finishing off opponents, allowing it to revenge kill sometimes.
I couldn't decide on my last pokemon but I thought that having another pokemon with good coverage is a good idea.
Magmortar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 64 HP / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Modest Nature
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earthquake
- Mach Punch
HP Ice on magmortar surprises most people. It actually killed a few surprised gliscor. garchomp and landorus-T. It can also KO heatran with earthquake. However, the timing to use HP-Ice needs to be watched as these pokemon usually attack back with earthquake and they usually outspeed magmortar. (I usually use it after the opponent is inflicted with burn).Mach punch works wonder in finishing weakened foes that outspeed it. (Not many opportunities though plus mine is a modest magmortar) This is not a standard move but I like it for the surprise and priority.
Strategy: The main star is scizor so the other pokemons are usally just there to help to clear scizor checks. Once checks are gone, scizor can sword dance and wreck the other team completely with bullet punch. Sometimes scizor doesn't even need to debut as crawdaunt and florges can prune the team completely.
Weaknesses:
Rotom-W annoys my team with it's pesky will-o-wisp. I usually use spirtiomb to wil-o-wisp it back and see if I could kill it before it bothers my team too much. 50% success rate so far.
Entry hazards - Usually entry hazards setters cant last more than two rounds (ferrothorn/skarmory) but once it has been set and the battle drags it gets really irritating as I have no spinner.
So far the win rate with this team is about 50% not too bad for a first timer but I really want to improve it. Would appreciate feedbacks.
Thank you^^
P.S. I would really appreciate it if someone can teach me how to post using pokemon sprites like how some other threads have.
